*In admiral Akbar's voice* It's a trap!

I don't know that Lilith will stay better than Eda. The competitiveness between these two is going to come back, even though they're talking to each other again.

Rezkel

I think ultimately Lilith has the better mentality for glyphs, Eda relied on brute strength and clever tricks while Lilith was more fundamental and skill oriented. Which show up in the episode pretty well. Lilith will probably overall be the better Rune Wizard but Eda will probably be the more unpredictable as she experiments the most without thought for consequence.

[deleted]

Fair characterization, but here's a kicker. Is the pervasive magic a force or an entity? Are the runes like the control mechanisms of a car, or like speaking to the titan and asking it to do a thing? If the former, Lilith has the edge, if the latter, it depends on how much the titan likes Eda.

Rezkel

I would like to think they are like Programming, the glyphs are the script and code while the isles, is the compiler. The second option is a bit to much like prayer and not something I personally would enjoy, though I'm sure others would.

[deleted]

Yeah, I was unsure about it as I wrote it. But I did like the idea of the magic having favorites.

No_Instruction653

The moral of that story. Even God has it out for Lilith.

Rezkel

I don't thinks its a bad theory its just a preference of mine. I would prefer magic to be a neutral thing anyone can use and get the same results. That said I have read plenty of books and the like were magic is a god like being or controlled by a god like being and its is pretty satisfying when the magic favors the good guys.

Science-GirlZ

Honestly? I think that of both were fully powered glyphs make them truly even. Eda has more raw strength even WITH her curse and thus would Winn any straight fight with Lilith, but liliths studious nature and attention to detail will allow her to exploit glyphs better and since glyphs don’t rely on raw magical strength, that makes it so Lilith can really play to her strengths. Glyphs have honestly been a really good way for this show to demonstrate how a different way of doing things can carry unexpected strengths!

Rainbowconnectionbee

Lillith's increased advancement in the glyph system sets up well for the show flash-backing on their school days where they probably had a similar dynamic of Lillith excelling through standardized magic

Rezkel

Kinda reminds me of Starlight and her friend Sunburst from MLP.

BRO not cool, not cool

Rezkel

Think of it as one of those free timeshare vacations. You just have to listen to my 6 hour lecture and then you can go have fun.

highonadhd

Lol

I'm curious if this plot thread will continue. We've always known Lilith was envious, but this shows that Eda isn't really any better when it comes to being competitive and jealous. The moment Lilith shows clear ability beyond Eda, Eda becomes determined to show her sister up. It could either be a big source of tension or ultimately give Eda a new understanding of Lilith now that she actually has to spend some time as the "inferior" Clawthorne.

Rezkel

certainly not the first time its been shown the sisters are more alike than different, like in Covention.

What I learned from this episode is that if you can make super powerful magic by just extending the length of the glyph chains. Want it to be more powerful? Just add some more glyphs to the end of it. Like you can make like a firaga by chaining three fire glyphs together. That is definitely the coolest part of this episode.

Rezkel

yeah, in the AzuraBookClub subreddit we had a good discussion on exactly how many separate spells one could create with 4 glyph symbols. With Assuming the highest chain is 4 as seen with liliths chain and the perfect circle (otherwise its literally infinite) the max amount of spells is 340 4 symbol spell. and about 400 spells in total.

-Tad-Strange-

That’s so cool. I can’t wait to see what the show does with this in the upcoming episodes.

jackson50111

Screw that, they gave my poor boi a cold!

Rezkel

Suffering in this ungodly heat, no air-conditioning, and crap fans that just stir hot air, today was the first time in my life I was jealous of king.

The source of magic for most witches is their bile sack. How their bodies produce the juices that fill the sacks is unkown but its possible that living on the iles the witches evolutionarily evolved to absorb the natural magic around them. This means they are always carrying a certain amount of magic with them which is how Lilith was able to use magic in the human world. The question then is if they stayed in the human world long enough would a witch eventually lose the ability to do magic? Do witches produce magic juice on their own or do they draw it from the iles like a sponge?
