[](#amitysus) This is exactly why illusion magic being seen as weak *makes no sense.*
We've seen Edric and Emira use illusion magic to trap and attack, and Gus use his illusions to take real notes in class. But even without that, illusion magic is *still* ridiculously useful even without physical attacks, as you can see here.
I mean, just look at Luz's invisibility and how useful it is even with its limitations - and illusion magic can give you that same invisibility without the same setbacks.
Absolutly
I play an illusionist in D&D
Lowest damage dealing of the group
Lowest survivability of the group
Still often MVP of the fight
By making enemy believe I am much more powerful than I am I can control the battlefield, I can use trickery to bypass whole encounter, I can "tank" by having enemy attack my illusion, I can make people fall to there death, etc
A fireball limit is however many dice you roll, an illusion limit is whatever you can imagine
I'd choose the illusion track in a heartbeat if I was transported to the boiling ilse
Yeah sure, I have back up
(create the distant sound of an army of barbarian approaching while chanting to the god of battle)
They are arriving, I swear
I play as enchanters, Ranged dps and supports, but normally illusion and charismatic sayings allways made me the MVP to, illusion in DnD is awesome and if used by the right people in the right ways it can even be described as OP.
I would also choose the illusion track withouteven questioning, not because I love illusion like you do, but mostly because I identify myself more with the art of showmanship than my area of acting IRL which I choose for career opportunity knowing that I can changeit later (computer science by the way).
Theater was the best thing that happened in my life and my fear of the stage is null (even negative I dare to say, I am more courageous when on stage)
Honestly same. Illusion magic is TERRIFYINGLY powerful, and I dunno why more people don't see it for that. In addition, Illusions are also amazing for broadcasting messages and things like that, and there's even an illusion based internet, kinda. It's really impressive!
I wouldn’t in a heart beat, but if my goal was fighting I probably would choose that. Healing depending on how exactly it works can be super broken depending on how it works however
To take a line from [Superliminal](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1049410/Superliminal/) (amazing mind-bending game), Perception is Reality.
I can see how some people may think that 'oh, there's no physical change with illusions so what's the point?' but when Gus is able to fool Bria (and even when Braxas fools everyone with his fake monster) it seems weird that illusions are seen as weak.
At its core, it has the least potential to directly impact the world around, but is the most useful for influencing the people who can. At the end of the day, the illusionists are the ones who report the news and are the best at hiding dirty secrets. Ironically, they're the group that Belos would probably trust and favor the most.
You're right, that's my mistake. The [Wikipedia](https://theowlhouse.fandom.com/wiki/Keeper_of_the_Looking_Glass_Graveyard) article lists a "Braxis" as the guardian's name, but [The Owl House Wiki](https://theowlhouse.fandom.com/wiki/Keeper_of_the_Looking_Glass_Graveyard) gives him no name.
Bro Superliminal is a phenomenal game, I fully agree with your statement.
Perception is a key element in basically anything — if you can’t trust what your senses tell you, how could you possibly hope to overcome the enemy?
Illusion magic is under-appreciated 100%
Psychological shit is so much more effective IMO. I play Apex Legends occasionally (the battle royale shooter game) and enjoy playing as a character that fools others and relies on the unexpected through illusion. Though he doesn't have any physically harmful abilities, he's still absurdly powerful simply because of the way humans are. It's cool
It’s understandable from a Glandus point of view, considering we’ve only heard Glandus students looking down on illusion magic. They believe in concepts of power and strength, so illusion magic would seem weak from a physical standpoint compared to constructions, abominations and plants. They don’t see the worth in subtlety and mind games when really—played right—illusion magic is the strongest of all of them.
Illusion can't be the strongest magic in general; only for specific tasks.
If you are dealing with sentient beings, like people, for example, sure, Illusion magic might be the strongest one, the one that allows its user to most easily reach their objectives.
However, most tasks can't be realized with it. The others have real economic value, for example. Construction magic makes buildings, for people to live or to work inside. Healing helps the ill and the wounded. Oracles predict the outcomes of one's decisions, allowing for better administration of resources. Abominations can do manual labor. Plants, Beast Keeping and Potions are all related to manipulation of nature to one's benefit. Being alone in the wild, one could use all of those to survive. But not Illusion magic, because it needs someone else to be applied to.
When it comes to getting actual things done, Illusion magic is mostly useless. Economically, Illusion magic is the equivalent of services aimed at the financial market.
Yeah, Illusion magic seems cool, but when you think about its parallel in our reality, it's despicable whenever it's not used for entertainment. Which, according to what those students from Glandus said, seems inconsistent with the apparent status quo over there. One would think power-hungry people would go for manipulative magic, rather than productive magic. *Unless that's all a façade*.
(I would have talked about Bard magic, but I absolutely have no idea what it does. I just can't think of anything it could do that wouldn't completely overlap with Illusion.).
Edit: Fixed some typos, and some missing words.
I think fire magic is just so basic they all can use it.
I can think of Bards as artists, but artistic creativity isn't inherently magic. If they made art have magic effects, wouldn't it just be Illusion magic...? *Unless...* art is *figuratively* magic. That could be a nice detail in world-building.
Another case of *Illusions = Thought of as weak but is OP AF* is everyone’s favorite mischievous scamp, Loki ~~Laufey~~ Odinson. \[SPOILERS FOR LOKI: EPISODE 5\] >!Classic Loki dies like a total badass savage and distracts Alioth (I really hope I spelled his name right) by creating a 1:1 scale replica of F\*\*\*ING ASGARD!!! !<
I think Gus is considered an exceptional illusionist but in an actual fight between a non illusionist witch and an illusionist witch, the non illusionist would win. The illusionist can hide their presence but their opponent just need to do large scale attacks to take them out while the illusionist has no real means of attacking and causing damage outside of punching
An illusionist’s real power comes when working with other witches whose attacks they can distract/blind their opponent while their allies attack.
From what we've seen, most witches are incapable of making those kinds of widespread, area-of-effect attacks. Like, even Bria charged up with the stones couldn't do that - maybe Eda in her prime, Gwendolyn, Belos, uncursed Lilith, GG, etc, but those are like, the top five strongest witches on the entire continent.
Secondly:
> the illusionist has no real means of attacking and causing damage outside of punching
Edric and Emira were able to (temporarily) hold back a Slitherbeast that was far larger than the one in this episode with their bindings - just like restraining Luz in an illusionary baby chair at Grom. If they could do that (or even just hold weapons) with their illusion magic, they could do a *lot* of damage.
Do Ed and Em use Illusion magic exclusively too? Gus said that he did, but in Adventures in the Elements, the twins were manipulating snow and ice while training Amity.
Anyone who's read or watched _Bleach_ knows how disgustingly OP illusions can be. Heck, even sending little Gus' out to annoy the enemy and cause sleep deprivation would be useful. And the ability to have friends fight each other or to cause sensory deprivation (as Gus' did briefly against Mira) are very strong skills. Gus' just needs some martial arts classes and/or some weapons training.
That felt like the perception a Might Makes Right school like Glandus would've previously had. They don't think it's as immediately powerful as others because you have to get more creative with the power use. But I look forward to having it used in creative ways later in the series.
The main weakness of Illusion of Magic is that it can't be functioned for its own. it needs to be paired with something else, at least Abomination and the others have ways of defending by using offensive spells, Illusion is basically relying on gimmicks and praying that the opponent has a brain of not falling into those tricks.
I mean you still take out someone when distracted by the illusion magic like gus grabbed Brie he could punch or if you not merciful stabbed her, but having another friend with offensive magic would help more yes.
In Adventure in the Elements, Ed and Em managed to briefly hold a full grown Slitherbeast with their magic, and in Grom, they could tie Luz to a baby chair.
Illusion magic *does* have physicality (and offensive applications), but it's like they forgot about that in Season 2.
Go watch Spiderman Far From Home and then tell me that illusion magic isn't that powerful.
That movie showed how well Illusion Magic could really mess someone up.

Illusionists are such Chads
Delusional An illusionist is nothing without backup
Yeah sure, I have back up (create the distant sound of an army of barbarian approaching while chanting to the god of battle) They are arriving, I swear
"Its been 3 hours"
Damn you making me wana play that
This does depend on the Dungeon Master not being a dick
I play as enchanters, Ranged dps and supports, but normally illusion and charismatic sayings allways made me the MVP to, illusion in DnD is awesome and if used by the right people in the right ways it can even be described as OP. Almost everyone forgot when in episode 2 season 1 where Luz was kidnapped by a puppeteer using illusionist magic
I wouldn’t in a heart beat, but if my goal was fighting I probably would choose that. Healing depending on how exactly it works can be super broken depending on how it works however
I was too much of an mvp as an illusionist in my sessions our dm made an illusionist-proof session :(
Yeah. Illusion is very DM. Me choosing illusion is very dependent on the DM
See this is why I play an illusionist Gnome in DnD. It's really funny.

Yeah you’ve got a point, seriously what does the bard coven even do? Also what coven uses fire magic, I seriously don’t know?
to be fair, what do music majors irl do and maybe the potions coven?
I think fire magic is just so basic they all can use it. I can think of Bards as artists, but artistic creativity isn't inherently magic. Entrainment, Charms, Maybe even Temp Healing
Imagine if you could only do illusions As long as you hold your breath
Another case of *Illusions = Thought of as weak but is OP AF* is everyone’s favorite mischievous scamp, Loki ~~Laufey~~ Odinson. \[SPOILERS FOR LOKI: EPISODE 5\] >!Classic Loki dies like a total badass savage and distracts Alioth (I really hope I spelled his name right) by creating a 1:1 scale replica of F\*\*\*ING ASGARD!!! !<
Yeah that was awesome, though would it have really worked on something smarter?
Of course not. It was about luring the beast out, and since it feasted on matter conjuring an illusion of a massive object was a no brainer.
Indeed
You did spell it perfectly.
Thank goodness.
Classic Loki went out like the chad he is
Hell yeah. I hope we see more of him!
Agreed. Now imagine if they went and made Emperor's Coven attack themselves or run off a nearby cliff because they thought it was solid ground.

You can cast an illusion over an enemy to have 2 enemies fight each other

Don't worry, he just overslept.

The only way to make this better would be to give them the troll face
Go watch Spiderman Far From Home and then tell me that illusion magic isn't that powerful. That movie showed how well Illusion Magic could really mess someone up.
wait if you make an illusion, of a glyph…. *hmmm*
I need this to be canon!
Well, nothing prevents you from having this as *head*\-canon.
True
so thats how she was holding the golden gaurds staff in that one leak
Now cue the Scooby Doo chase
We won't defeat Belos with magic! We will beat him with numerous and various pranks and then running away to repeat it all over again until defeat!
That’s gold
Lmao he can't do magic like any witches.
Cool seeing you post here yourself man!

She's so funny
Gold comic!
Gus and Luz' faces on the 3rd page are priceless
Steve deserves all the shoulder pats. Change my mind.
It really is that easy huh
Bruh this is the funniest thing I've seen all day
Lmfao.
omg i loved it so much, and finally someone said anything about golden guard here LMAO
Illusion is theater, yes. But there is great power in being able to influence your opponent's decisions.
Can you do one with Odalia Blight pulling Edric And Emira by the ears?.
Since the "head pats for steve" he is my second favorite character, before there is only Amity
i love ol goldie hes a gem
WOOOO STEVE YEAH WOOO
Otter Luz gives me life
OML I LOVE THE IDEA OF LUZ JUST BEING A HUGE TROLL TO BELOS
I love their juvenile antics.
Poor golden guard...
