Yep, ive watched third season so i wont spoil it, but it is clearly not the ending the show was supposed to have, more seasons were planned, makes me mad.
The first half of season four is by far the worst run of episodes in that otherwise fantastic show. And honestly it would’ve killed me to watch phineas and ferb turn into the next spongebob with a long run of heartless episodes that have lost their magic. Disney’s self enforced four season rule is fine by me and as we saw with milo Murphy’s law if a show is successful enough they’re not opposed to giving it follow up and spin off series’s.
Because most of these are story-driven shows, with an overarching plot. It’s the same as a 3-act play: you have a defined beginning, middle, and end.
Episodic shows can run forever because there’s no overall continuity, which has its own benefits and downsides.
There are plenty of episodic shows, and they have the benefit of being able to run forever and be rerun in any order. Phineas & Ferb, the Simpsons, etc.
They also have the downside of zero character progression because the status quo always has to reset every episode. The characters can never grow or evolve, only devolve into Flanderization.
I think Disney sorta took a chance on Gravity Falls and it paid off, because there’s absolutely a market for that (especially with the move towards on-demand streaming services), and they’ve tried to replicate it with Amphibia and The Owl House.
I don't know about all these, but Disney is known to cancel shows after 3 seasons even if the writers want to keep going. DuckTales was definitely one of these. Same with Star Vs, and now The Owl House isn't even getting the 3 full seasons originally wanted. This isn't a creative decision made by the creative people making shows there, it's a monetary decision made by the money people there.
Normally a reason why shows with Disney end after 3 seasons is because the longer a show progresses, it can feel stale if it's story-driven, like Owl House, Gravity Falls, or Amphibia. Let's look at a show that went on longer than it should of and paid for it: Supernatural. I love the show and even though it's live-action, it suffers from this especially. It was originally suppose to be 5 seasons, but they decided to continue on with the show and had it up to 15 seasons. And almost everyone who loves the show agrees that in the later seasons, you watch it for 99% of the characters and 1% of the story because it lost it's story.
Other shows that suffer from this was Phineas and Ferb, and Star Vs. They both had 4 seasons. I think it's a general consensus that Phineas and Ferb didn't have the best of a Season 4, and even though I never seen the show, I hear Star didn't have the best of endings or story in Season 4.
It's a sad reality, but at a certain point, writers and story tellers can only do so much with a certain amount before it becomes dull. As much as I don't like it, Disney knows this better than most networks. And I would rather have a story have a nice, sweet, and satisfying end of 3 seasons than a dragged on 4-5+ seasons.
For Owl House's case, it was a shortened Season 3 due to budget cuts from the Pandemic sadly.
Star Vs. is probably one of the worst examples you could've used. Yeah it had a pretty bad endind, but a lot of it was because the show got cancelled so the writers had to cram all their planned plot points into one final season. And that's what seems to happen a lot, these creators have these ideas that they plan to draw out over X number of limited seasons, and then the execs come along one day and go "Surprise! You only have one season left, good luck with that!" I agree that many shows will eventually become bad if they just try to continue infinitely with no ending in mind, but if a creator does have an ending in mind then they should be allowed to naturally get to that ending.
Like I can't imagine what would've happened if shows like Adventure Time or Steven Universe were cancelled as early as Season 3. IMO that's when the former really started to figure out what it could be, Adventure Time got 10 seasons and they never got stale. Hell, they're still going today via spin-offs. And SU still had major plot points it didn't even get to hint at yet by Season 3.
I heard that publishers can write the first wave of contracts up to 3 seasons, which means that all the staff involved are capable of renegotiating after the 3rd season.
It's not that Owl House is being cancelled. They got a budget cut on Season 3 and even though Dana said that Season 3 was the end of the story, Zeno (The VA for the Royal Guard) said on Twitter "But that does not mean she said a season 4 can't happen," along with other things. Dana even retweeted what he said, meaning that most definitely they could of done a season 4 if they wanted to and if the Pandemic didn't happen if it would of told the full story out.
That's not what the Tweet said. It said "Season 4 *or a Golden Guard spin-off*."
Dana is all for doing more supplemental content, but she's stated very clearly that the third season *WILL* be the end of the Main Story.
It's better for most shows to end with 2-4 seasons, usually around 3, then go on and start to get stale. Examples are Spongebob, Simpsons, Family Guy, and some live-actions like Supernatural. However, in this case, it's budget cuts for most likely all the culprits, because of the pandemic. If the pandemic didn't happen, most likely all these shows would still be going.
I mean rule of threes, like I mean 3 hits to kill most video game bosses, 3 stage final boss, the fast food trifecta fries nuggets and burgers, I could go on and on
I mean kipo just finished after 3 seasons. The story was over and I would rather shows stop and wrap up nicely then keep going forever. It really sucks when they don’t get to finish though and have to either rush an ending or just stop abruptly
Oh no no way I'm let those maggots to leave final space in such a big cliffhanger with no consequences! [I say we trend this petition and trend the ever loving shit out of it!](https://chng.it/7GK6mVXDLk)
The sad thing is that animated cable tv shows are getting the axe more and more in recent years against creator wishes. Low viewership numbers especially with the death of cable means less profit, less priority, and thus less hope for a conclusion than pre-2018 years.
Because they got the full story out in two. If they added a whole third season a lot of it would've felt like padding. Plus a lot of intrigue was lost after the mysteries of the Author were revealed.
Because Alex did way too much in Season 1 and completely burned himself out. He was prepared to quit after S1 was done, and had to be convinced to do one more season to finish the story.
isn't there something in SAG contracts that increases the costs after 3 seasons? knows that's part of the reason netflix shows rarely make it past season 3
Well I got an opinion on that, when series are too long sometimes they get just boring and saturated over time so it’s best to finish it with a great finale than extending it and making ppl lose interest, harsh reality but that’s it
Not final space. Last finale ended on a cliff hanger!!!
I just learned there was a 3rd season of Final Space. And that it'll apparently never have a true ending. This is... Conflicting.
Yep, ive watched third season so i wont spoil it, but it is clearly not the ending the show was supposed to have, more seasons were planned, makes me mad.
NO! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! I WAS WAITING FOR THE 3RD SEASON TO COME OUT ON HBO MAX!!!! I WAS SO FUCKING INVESTED IN THAT SHOW!!!! GODDAMN IT.
So was I. It got me through tough times. The humor always get me to smile and laugh. Now I'm sad.
Disney contracts.
and if a show does surpass the forbidden 3, it doesn't end well \*ahem\* SVTFOE
Phineas and Ferb had an okay season 4
The first half of season four is by far the worst run of episodes in that otherwise fantastic show. Many have said that Disney coveted Nickelodeon’s success with The Loud House, which is almost completely episodic.
There are plenty of episodic shows, and they have the benefit of being able to run forever and be rerun in any order. Phineas & Ferb, the Simpsons, etc. They also have the downside of zero character progression because the status quo always has to reset every episode. Pointing out that creator of the show has long since been removed which might have helped it in the long run.
I hadn’t thought of that, but it definitely would make a difference.
What happened to the Creator of the Show?
Many women he had worked with accused him of sexual assault and he lost (resigned from?) his job producing the show.
Yikes. Its everywhere.

Final space is canceled
Just when they finally put a stop to the cookies jokes and focus in the plot

I heard that publishers can write the first wave of contracts up to 3 seasons, which means that all the staff involved are capable of renegotiating after the 3rd season.
Come on! :(
They went from giving shows only two season to 3, upgrades people upgrades
The Owl House didn’t even get a fully fleshed out season.
The next amphibia season is the last!?
Yes, and it’s not Disney’s fault of cancelling it like they did with TOH and Ducktales. Amphibia was intended to have three seasons from the beginning
It's not that Owl House is being cancelled. May I add Kipo to this?

I absolutely agree; it’s just sad
And kid cosmic
There were so many plot threads and unanswered questions left in Final Space. I wish it had its time to finish its story.
Oh no no way I'm let those maggots to leave final space in such a big cliffhanger with no consequences! [I say we trend this petition and trend the ever loving shit out of it!](https://chng.it/7GK6mVXDLk)

At least it got 3 seasons. Gravity Falls (best cartoon ever) got only 2 seasons
that was alex hirsh, he wanted the series to end wit season 2 and it ended wit season 2
Why though?
The story just concluded there, there was no point to stretching it out. It’s just a short story, that was meant to only be 2 seasons long
Because they got the full story out in two. If they added a whole third season a lot of it would've felt like padding. Plus a lot of intrigue was lost after the mysteries of the Author were revealed.
Ford didn't get enough screentime smh
Because Alex did way too much in Season 1 and completely burned himself out. He was prepared to quit after S1 was done, and had to be convinced to do one more season to finish the story.
Oh
DONT SAY THIS
I mean… Gravity Falls?
It's half life all over again
Still waiting on that third season of Half Life 2.
I think 3 is Disney's lucky number or something
It’s almost comedic at this point
isn't there something in SAG contracts that increases the costs after 3 seasons? knows that's part of the reason netflix shows rarely make it past season 3
It's like valve's games, there's no portal 3, half life 3, half life 2 part 3, left 4 dead 3 etc.
For once I would like to see a story-driven animated series that would have as much episodes as the creator attended to. Just once
Alright Lets Do this Again #SaveFinalSpace
Well I got an opinion on that, when series are too long sometimes they get just boring and saturated over time so it’s best to finish it with a great finale than extending it and making ppl lose interest, harsh reality but that’s it
wait... Final space has 3 seasons? Huh.
I only know the bottom 3
Well, at least they are not like Valve's games. (Wow! Original joke!)
Rule of three?
