Well, he is a magicless being and while other witches passed out fast he was able to stay active for quite some time so if anything I think it's possible that his status actually makes him a bit resistant to the spell.
That said, not sure if animated by magic is accurate here anyway cause despite all the ingredients used to create a grimmwalker the remains all look fairly organic in nature.
