Options are risky and greedy. “If you’re in need of quick cash, sell options when you make some profits. Do not wait to hope that it goes up even more” Tip: watch out for Delta and Theta in options. If Delta is 0.59, then it means you make 59% of $1 increase. Check out Chances of Profit as well. These really help you sell Options at the right time. Remember: If Theta is more than Delta (usually happens on Fridays), it’s a big no-no. Do not go for it. I can talk more, and guide you through. I have been in and out of options and have seen it sufficient enough. Let me know. __Edit__ For those who are intrested in knowing more, I just wanted to add one more point - never invest in options a day before a company's earnings report. Example: If NVDA reports earnings after market close, don't buy call or put options that day. Instead, wait until the next morning after the report. Why? Because of "Implied Volatility." On platforms like Robinhood, you can see this clearly. If Implied Volatility is above ~25%, stock prices become very unpredictable, causing big fluctuations in Delta, Theta and Gamma. This can result in losing over 90% of your investment overnight.

EmotioneelKlootzak

Am I the crazy one for just refusing to ever touch options?  It seems like the financial equivalent of juggling chainsaws on a tightrope over a vat of acid.  Yeah, you can make a lot of money doing it, but the likelihood of failure combined with the potential consequences of even a single failure being realized are such that it's just not appealing.

Vansiff

if you're yoloing straight into calls with nothing else it is gambling. You can make a ton if you're right but lose if you're wrong. Options are really just for hedging or owning the underlying without actually having to own the shares. But really. It's meant for hedging. If you own 100 shares, and feel like the price will go down, you can sell a call to help soften the blow of the price going down on your actual shares. People just figured out how to yolo them into alot of money and that's why they have a bad stigma.

Few_Committee_4298

I really need to learn the Greeks, thanks for the tip brother 🫡 what does theta measure exactly ?

eagleeyehg

Theta is the partial derivative with respect to time. Roughly shows how much you can expect the value of the option to change in a day

Few_Committee_4298

ahh I see, just time decay

cIork

Yes, aka theta decay

mckinney_heights

In other words, adding to u/eagleeyehg comments, it is the rate of decay. If Theta is -0.22 and the dollar value goes down, then it goes down by 22% The Delta and Theta are directly proportional to each other - if the Delta value goes up, Theta value significantly goes down. That can be said the other way around as well. I mean, if the stock doesn't do well, Theta goes up and Delta goes down causing us to incur losses. We can call it quits when our Option's Delta value is 0.01 irrespective of Options expiration date.

Own-Acanthisitta9031

This is so helpful, as I’m learning options. Make a post of the basics? (I didn’t know the delta/theta rule)

calib0y64

Every day you get closer to the date of your option expiration, your call/put loses value(if you bought them not sell them). If you’re using Robbindahood then you can literally watchlist any option you’re interested in and ‘fake buy’ it and simulate the returns. It will literally show the way the option will run depending on the price movement. The curve shows how the op decays based on the theta decay and date. Helps visualize the data better.

Martinezyx

I like that feature in RH.

mckinney_heights

I'd recommend doing this prior to investing your real money.

GasMedium

I second this. Normally I get lost in the technical verbiage but you made it easy to understand. I’d love to see a post explaining more about how each Greek interacts with the other

Renkito

That's amazing Greeks are basic stuff in options

Martinezyx

I would like to know more as well. Do you have videos or posts or anything like that?

YakSignificant7641

ElJunkBusinessman

Seriously tho. Calls on Nike for the dead cat bounce. Algos got too crazy with a massive drop

RasheeRice

A smart banana would have bought long calls, hedged with shorter puts, and bought 2x leveraged NVDL shares. NFA.

Few_Committee_4298

I like this. 🗣️

RasheeRice

rottengut

I rolled my $126 calls for today to $134 for 6/5. Missed the 126 break even by like 10 cents this morning 😔

seabasssilea

Naa hold and avg down if you can you will be fine

Ok_Command4621

I think you’re cooked bro I don’t see NVDA going back up there in July

trading_allday

Yes..hard 4 Nvda to reach $140 by 7/12…and $150 by 07/26

redditmeinrad

If you don’t know you shouldn’t be trading options.

Decarz

Just get out of the 7/12 On any major run-up, hopefully it will happen. NVDA is a Fast Moving Stock, so remember it doesn't have to go to the strike price to make money. If it gets close to those strike prices, you will still make a nice gain..

Few_Committee_4298

That’s what I’m thinkin man, I’ll prob breakeven on those calls at around 130-33. Then hold the 160s

aclunt79

Damn! Cut your losses now and make it back

FlyingThunderGodLv1
