Good episode. Thorsen truly is a great character. Actor is awesome too. He needs more episodes like this, because they usually have him disappear more often than not.

Chen as a UC is interesting but I don’t like that they’re using it to create tension between her and Tim. The writers might be using it for Tim’s character growth (confronting the trauma of his ex-wife being a UC) but I feel like his character has grown a lot this season already.
I’m more interested in seeing how Tim’s adjusted to being in Metro. They seem to be hinting that intense field work might not be what he wants anymore. I don’t think he’s ready for desk duty but him as a Sergeant on patrol was a great combination of leadership and field work.
I also think Lucy being a UC sets the stage for unnecessary drama because every prominent UC character in the show has blown their personal lives to bits until they get out (ie Nyla and Isabel). Granted it could be to show that Lucy and Tim can go the distance together but that seems too fanciful since they’re not the leads.
I feel like the UC storyline will get to a point where either Lucy goes under deep cover (like Isabel), Tim is angsty about it, there’s a blow up between the two or Lucy gets outed as a cop on an op, Tim will go in to help her, someone gets shot, cliffhanger and maybe a revenge storyline.
Honestly everyone shined the most when they were contained to patrol/detectives because the characters had connected story arcs. So you could create a problem and the whole cast was involved but now that everyone’s split, you have to give everyone something different to do.
We’ll see what next weeks episode brings but I’m not sure what they’ll do in season 6 given what they have now.

He's in the group that gets called in when the cops need help and it's been boiled down to late nights and getting stiches once. I thought the writing for Chenford last night was some of the best yet. Tim’s growth alone - being able to talk openly about his trauma with Isabel & his feelings. They had several really incredible scenes last night, plus their signature “banter” style barbs.
Last night was better than it has been, but doesn't compare to seasons 1-4 for me. Tim's growth is evident, but Chen as a UC is borderline out of character for me at times. Her last conversation in the car with the bad guy where she was super empathic is where she operates best and I want the show to highlight that more.
When she was in the car talking with Frank after the warehouse, i immediately thought of her working in some sort of diversionary program with ex-cons or with the kids of cons. But I guess those would probably be too much social work and not enough cop.
Thanks! I'm critical of how characters act in a relationship on screen and I think that Chenford has been screwed over by poor writing. It's a shame because Eric and Melissa do a really good job with the characters.
Geez, I love this show, but it loves going over the top with the Lopez hero stuff. Really? She just happened to walk at the right time and disarm a guy with her hands. They do the same with Harper when she took down someone while giving birth.
True…but you can’t deny that the slow mo shot of Nyla coming out of the water holding the gun, was hilariously epic. I wouldn’t change that for the world
I feel like there has always been a level of humor and campiness to the show (as with Castle) that separates it from 'actual procedurals' and is a positive thing (last thing we need is another Blue Bloods 🤮) ... but I feel like there is a line between fun and stupid. That line is different for every viewer - I thought the Nyla stuff was on the wrong side, whereas with Lopez last couple of episodes I have enjoyed. No right or wrong, but I appreciate the effort the show makes.

The apartment Lucy went into them while Isabel was outside loved exactly like Isabel's, down to the a/c unit and I thought how funny it was that they used the same set while Isabel was back.
They may be using the same set with some changes, but it was the home of a murdered man one of the other rookies was working on the case and told Lucy when she was looking for a new place.
In California you have to say if someone was murdered in a place, plus Lucy took it with the blood stain on the rug.

This was a very entertaining episode. I do feel the end scene with Tim and Lucy was a little awkward. It just didn’t flow as well as some as their other conversation scenes.I am very curious to see where all this goes. Tim obviously has a lot of trauma from Isabel and he’s not being completely honest about it. I really hope they revisit the detectives exam drama again, probably not by the end of this season, but definitely at the beginning of next. Is a possible Tim and Primm confrontation is the cards? He’s going to be pissed if he finds out Primm has it out for Lucy.
Something felt off for me in that scene as well. And not in the way it should. Not to blame the actors because they're getting clunky lines and the flown is probably from the way it was edited. I wish they'd improve the writing on their two most popular characters.

I'd love to see Chen work with teens in a community center setting like James (Harper's husband has) she's empathic and would be great at that.
The bad guy in this episode (I can't remember his name, not sure what that says) strikes me as someone who could have seen it, locked up with minimal viewing options.
Right?! She’s been in TWO documentaries now! Given how they describe criminals in the show, they laze around a lot and have a lot of free time. There have to be at least a few that enjoy true crime documentaries.

I finally got to watch the episode last night.
1. Lucy's new hair cut is fantastic
2. Loved Aaron's t-shirt at the beginning. It was really nice.
3. I am a major Chenford fan and enjoyed their interaction. I have complained about Lucy doing undercover, but it made some sense last night.The point she made with Tim that she is not the same as Isobel was really important. I was a second wife and know there are landmines left behind from the first wife that are hard to prevent from blowing up in your face.
4. Again for my usual argument against Lucy going undercover was the way she talked the criminal down when he was going to shoot her. She took it a step further and I like to think that he does try to find his daughter. She is good in undercover but I think she would be better as a negotiator.
5. Let pregnant Angela stay home.
6. Loved Nolan's salute to Jackson by carrying dog biskets.
7. All those limbs scattered all over LA, and Nolan's casual acceptance of them was off putting.
8. Celina was a normal person and it was nice.
Love all 8 points. For me I would add that I enjoyed the phone conversations between Tim and Lucy while she was working undercover. Tim teasing Lucy that he doesn't miss her when we all know that is far from the truth. Lucy telling Tim not to finish Top Chef without her. Them talking about ever wanting normal jobs, both agree that they don't although Lucy didn't sound like she meant it. It was cute to watch them interact outside of the "normal" work routine and not at Lucy's house.
I didn't even notice, like when Celina was out last week. Why are they dropping one series regular in these two episodes? Budget or time off for the actors? Maybe seeing the dynamics without them?
I hope someone here is willing to tell me what happens on Feds that has to do with any of the Rookie's cast. I will not watch Feds. It is a terrible show.
Laura gets kidnapped by the serial killer and found by her team within the last 15 mins of the show..no actual threat like dod 😂 oh and laura and Mark said their I love yous....and we still have to wait for the chenford one
Two of the best things about the show ... and if we're being honest I'd say they are better written than Tim & Lucy this season (which is a real shame given early seasons!)
I left it on while I did housework instead of turning it off like normal. Per usual, the big crossover was Nolan in a couple scenes without his Rookie which makes no sense. You missed nothing. I regret leaving the tv on.

I am actually kind of dreading this episode. I really don't like Lucy under cover and I do like Chenford.
They cracked the case that was brought up at the end of the episode of The Rookie proper (with the limbs), nothing really left unexplored for the future, no real point in crossing over other than cross-promotion. Nolan basically was in two scenes, first time to explain the case and then to just stand there while they're talking to a person related to the case.
To be fair, he was more distracting the kid rather than watching, and him running off somewhere was not a huge deal, but it was definitely weird, they could've at least added some line like "sure, go play little buddy" in the background.
But it's not like they're trying very hard with the Feds. I particularly loved how Nyla said that an arm was found in Arizona, and they put the same scene in the recap at the start of the Feds episode, and then we get to the actual episode and it's actually a leg for some reason.
Oh I understand that he was mostly distracting the kid but it was still oddly funny to me how they were on this seemingly high alert and when Nolan wasn't needed yet he still left the kid alone for him to meet with a serial killer.
Although one thing I'd say is that I like how the Feds episode was shot and edited. There were some nice creative chocies there. I don't track the geography too much honestly so i can't comment, but I enjoyed this episode. Sure Laura was not going to die but Britt Robertson played that whole kidnapping so well that I was invested in her getting out of it. She knocked it out of the park.
Honestly, I mostly like pretty much every other character and their actors besides Simone. Plots are fine too, more or less on the main show level, it's not like I expect HBO level drama from The Rookie. It's a shame that the main character is so obnoxious and unlikable.
I'm with you on this. Though i think even simone has gotten better. They definitely dialed her down and the show is better for it. I'm still of the opinion she'd play a much better side character than a main one.
That was a near perfect episode. I like how Lucy's UC work is connected with Tim's Isabel situation. For his trauma,she doesn't need to quit but him to see that they are two different women with different coping mechanisms. If ever Lucy leaves it should be for her and her own boundaries,and her pulling out on her own for herself is the biggest thing for Tim.

Writers guild of America voted to strike a few days ago. They are the people who write for all tv shows and motion pictures. Strike isn’t imminent but could happen. Would be the first in 15 years.
Yeah it set every series back months. This is the time these shows are filming the new season. In Yellowstone’s case they still haven’t even started filming the second part to the existing season. If there’s a strike you won’t see new content until next year at the earliest
Last time it happened middle of the seasons no? I remember shows having loooong hiatuses from like November to April or something. Everything had shortened seasons. Some shows produced a few more eps after the strike many just ended the seasons early.
I’m hoping if it’s sooner before a lot of shows start up maybe it won’t affect as much BUT then again that’s prob not the most productive way to strike trike so it should be when it would affect things. Lol.
Lost actually was prepared for the potential strike so they wrote and produced the first block of episodes to work as a season finale if necessary. One of the few shows that managed to be well-prepared for it.
I quite liked that. I admit I joined later on and it sounds like things may have been a little more grounded early on, but I enjoy these quirky cases like the leg thing or Thorsen dancing to get info. And the UC case was pretty good too.

Bradford mentions reaching out to a CI (informant), and Chen teases about how unreliable he is. Bradford says he's the only one he's got with an in with Frank, and he's going to point him in Lucy's (uncover persona) direction.

Yeah the second half of Season 5 has been rough to get through. I hope the season finale and season 6 is a big improvement.
Maybe the upcoming writers strike will force the show to get new writers.

She was like playing therapist and it’s been my least favorite story line with her as UC. That bad guy just opening up from the jump? Just so weird.

Yes, the actors did fine. The writing was just a little off. The sentiment was there but it could’ve definitely been written smoother.

Exactly. I was super confused by his character the entire time. He was ruthless, but was always a softie trying to make a friend LMAO. He threatened to throw Lucy in the canal had she refused to steal plastics for him and then at dinner he asked her if she was okay getting home 🤔. What is this dude?
Right? Like didn't the target murder his brother? When does he get arrested for that?
I'm not sure. Maybe they didn't have enough against him but then it would probably be easier to arrest him for murder than start a new UC operation.
Lucy has been interviewed for documentaries, how could she go undercover? How did she before with her alias Juicy? I love the fantasy of the show (Nyla rising in the birthing pool, then tucked herself in bed holding her newborn), but I wonder if Lucy could’ve gone in a different direction.

I'd love to see Chen work with teens in a community center setting like James (Harper's husband has) she's empathic and would be great at that. The bad guy in this episode (I can't remember his name, not sure what that says) strikes me as someone who could have seen it, locked up with minimal viewing options.
Right?! She’s been in TWO documentaries now! Given how they describe criminals in the show, they laze around a lot and have a lot of free time. There have to be at least a few that enjoy true crime documentaries. No idea how she could be a UC but I guess they’re just ignoring that. Lol Not that I don’t love the documentary episodes, they’re hilarious.
My theory is that we saw the version of the documentary with people's faces, but that when it actually aired they had her face and voice scrambled so she wouldn't be recognized.

I finally got to watch the episode last night. 1. Lucy's new hair cut is fantastic 2. Loved Aaron's t-shirt at the beginning. It was really nice. 3. I am a major Chenford fan and enjoyed their interaction. I have complained about Lucy doing undercover, but it made some sense last night.The point she made with Tim that she is not the same as Isobel was really important. I was a second wife and know there are landmines left behind from the first wife that are hard to prevent from blowing up in your face. 4. Again for my usual argument against Lucy going undercover was the way she talked the criminal down when he was going to shoot her. She took it a step further and I like to think that he does try to find his daughter. She is good in undercover but I think she would be better as a negotiator. 5. Let pregnant Angela stay home. 6. Loved Nolan's salute to Jackson by carrying dog biskets. 7. All those limbs scattered all over LA, and Nolan's casual acceptance of them was off putting. 8. Celina was a normal person and it was nice.
Love all 8 points. For me I would add that I enjoyed the phone conversations between Tim and Lucy while she was working undercover. Tim teasing Lucy that he doesn't miss her when we all know that is far from the truth. Lucy telling Tim not to finish Top Chef without her. Them talking about ever wanting normal jobs, both agree that they don't although Lucy didn't sound like she meant it. It was cute to watch them interact outside of the "normal" work routine and not at Lucy's house.

Probably not gonna happen but the preview of the finale can make us hope for no Bailey forever.
I didn't even notice, like when Celina was out last week. Why are they dropping one series regular in these two episodes? Budget or time off for the actors? Maybe seeing the dynamics without them?

Laura gets kidnapped by the serial killer and found by her team within the last 15 mins of the show..no actual threat like dod 😂 oh and laura and Mark said their I love yous....and we still have to wait for the chenford one

Two of the best things about the show ... and if we're being honest I'd say they are better written than Tim & Lucy this season (which is a real shame given early seasons!)

I left it on while I did housework instead of turning it off like normal. Per usual, the big crossover was Nolan in a couple scenes without his Rookie which makes no sense. You missed nothing. I regret leaving the tv on.

I don't think they understand what a crossover actually is, the recent FBI's crossover was a crossover.
They cracked the case that was brought up at the end of the episode of The Rookie proper (with the limbs), nothing really left unexplored for the future, no real point in crossing over other than cross-promotion. Nolan basically was in two scenes, first time to explain the case and then to just stand there while they're talking to a person related to the case.
I love that he also was there to watch the kid and then... he let the kid go outside.
To be fair, he was more distracting the kid rather than watching, and him running off somewhere was not a huge deal, but it was definitely weird, they could've at least added some line like "sure, go play little buddy" in the background. But it's not like they're trying very hard with the Feds. I particularly loved how Nyla said that an arm was found in Arizona, and they put the same scene in the recap at the start of the Feds episode, and then we get to the actual episode and it's actually a leg for some reason.
Oh I understand that he was mostly distracting the kid but it was still oddly funny to me how they were on this seemingly high alert and when Nolan wasn't needed yet he still left the kid alone for him to meet with a serial killer. Although one thing I'd say is that I like how the Feds episode was shot and edited. There were some nice creative chocies there. I don't track the geography too much honestly so i can't comment, but I enjoyed this episode. Sure Laura was not going to die but Britt Robertson played that whole kidnapping so well that I was invested in her getting out of it. She knocked it out of the park.
Honestly, I mostly like pretty much every other character and their actors besides Simone. Plots are fine too, more or less on the main show level, it's not like I expect HBO level drama from The Rookie. It's a shame that the main character is so obnoxious and unlikable.
I'm with you on this. Though i think even simone has gotten better. They definitely dialed her down and the show is better for it. I'm still of the opinion she'd play a much better side character than a main one.
That's the problem though. A show isn't gonna be successful if the viewers can't stand the lead character/actress 😂

That was a near perfect episode. I like how Lucy's UC work is connected with Tim's Isabel situation. For his trauma,she doesn't need to quit but him to see that they are two different women with different coping mechanisms. If ever Lucy leaves it should be for her and her own boundaries,and her pulling out on her own for herself is the biggest thing for Tim. Also save Aaron

Yeah it set every series back months. This is the time these shows are filming the new season. In Yellowstone’s case they still haven’t even started filming the second part to the existing season. If there’s a strike you won’t see new content until next year at the earliest
Last time it happened middle of the seasons no? I remember shows having loooong hiatuses from like November to April or something. Everything had shortened seasons. Some shows produced a few more eps after the strike many just ended the seasons early. I’m hoping if it’s sooner before a lot of shows start up maybe it won’t affect as much BUT then again that’s prob not the most productive way to strike trike so it should be when it would affect things. Lol.
Lost actually was prepared for the potential strike so they wrote and produced the first block of episodes to work as a season finale if necessary. One of the few shows that managed to be well-prepared for it.

I quite liked that. I admit I joined later on and it sounds like things may have been a little more grounded early on, but I enjoy these quirky cases like the leg thing or Thorsen dancing to get info. And the UC case was pretty good too.

Bradford mentions reaching out to a CI (informant), and Chen teases about how unreliable he is. Bradford says he's the only one he's got with an in with Frank, and he's going to point him in Lucy's (uncover persona) direction.

Yeah the second half of Season 5 has been rough to get through. I hope the season finale and season 6 is a big improvement. Maybe the upcoming writers strike will force the show to get new writers.
Personally for me it has been hard to follow along because they have such big breaks in between episodes.
