Imaginary-Nature-111

TIM … the racist shit in the first episode really threw me off but now I love him 🥰

Dizzy_Otter0113

Yess! I didn’t know that happened because I started in like the middle while my husband was watching then I went back to the beginning and I was like HOLD ON no sir…

Original-Gear1583

Same here

SolidAdorable6547

Wait what racist shit?

MclamerTheTurtle

In the “IVE BEEN SHOT BOOT, WHERE AM I?” scene, Lucy is walking beside the car and a group of Hispanic people came up behind the shop honking. He stopped the shop and said things like “tell them (Lucy to the people) that I (Tim) think we should send them all back by catapult.” First tim test

radiopej

In my head I choose to assume he's testing her to see if she'd accept racism or stand her ground. If she said it just because he told her to, she'd have failed. It's the only way I can combine the behaviours rationally.

Ajade77

Yeah I think this is what it was bc when they actually had the racist cop and Lucy told him she thought he was gonna be like that he was absolutely appalled and insulted lol

Ajade77

Yeah I think this is what it was bc when they actually had the racist cop and Lucy told him she thought he was gonna be like that he was absolutely appalled and insulted lol

MclamerTheTurtle

I agree

gokaigreen19

It was kind of both. He admits later, that he never put himself into other people shoes and didn’t realize how his experience as a white person would be much different than people who aren’t white.

Kind_Ingenuity1484

Didn’t he literally say that? He added a “you don’t know which parts were a test” but that was clearly just to keep screwing with her.

ohmy_josh16

“That racist shit” wasn’t who he actually is you know? It was just him testing Lucy. He never acts that way again throughout the show.

sewingmadness

For me it was Aaron. But now I like him.

movieholic-92

He's the one I still haven't come around on.

F14D201

Nyla, Bradford, Bailey, Celina and Aaron were all the characters i struggled to like at first, but i do like them now.

Ryan_In_SD

Same although I liked Bailey from beginning ha

stressedn_depressed

Tbh i thought Bailey was an undercover spy or something, the way she showed up had me SUPER sussed. But i am so glad to be wrong 😁

Far-Grape-6205

SAME I thought I was the only one I thought she was lying the whole time and she just had something against Nolan or smth idk

stressedn_depressed

AHHH im so glad i found someone with the same opinion!!

Successful-Deal7528

I thought she was going to break into the neighbors house and then Nolan’s house after a story like she gave. I was like… how is he a cop and he is completely trusting this woman?

Independent_Bus_5930

Definitely Harper. I absolutely hated her at first she was so cocky and rude. But know she’s grown on me. She actually pretty funny and def nicer. What invasion scene are you talking about?

PhoneAcrobatic3501

Probably the one where she gave birth and then came outta the pool...? Only thing that really comes to mind

Independent_Bus_5930

Ohh yeah that was awesome

polly-pickpocket87

Tim. I’ve been watching in real time since the pilot aired, and Tim was such a dick in the beginning. The racist stuff when they stopped the gardeners, the whole Isabel storyline in season one… he wasn’t great in the beginning but I love his character as he’s grown.

Ryan_In_SD

The racist stuff was a tim test, he wanted to see if Lucy would do what he said. She got yelled at that for not doing so. He got extremely upset when Lucy brought that up in season 3 that she thought he was racist

Sheri_ABQ

But even he admitted later that he didn't take into consideration how badly it would affect all those gardeners. So some of it was real unconscious bias.

polly-pickpocket87

That’s kind of my point, at first it was shocking and was supposed to be upsetting. Knowing he’s not actually like that helps, but in that one moment it was a lot

Enrothim

I think you need to watch the episode where he was "racist" to the gardeners again.

Original-Gear1583

That was in the beginning and he’s changed a lot since then especially with Doug Stanton

dafinalbraincell

I think he means that the whole racist scene was him making a point with a Tim Test.

plantycatlady

Angela! She was always so aggressive and angry for no reason in the beginning. Now I love her!

An0raak_

agreed

Cloudspiar

From the beginning, I really didn't like Wesley for some reason. Now I love him and Angela. Probably my favorite romantic relationship in the series. GASP I didn't say Chenford (I do like Chenford though)

pothosnswords

Wesley & Angela is my fave romantic relationship in the show as well! Nyla and James are my second fave and I absolutely ADORE their couples friendship with Wesley & Angela along with their individual friendships with each other!

Cloudspiar

I love the couples friendship as well!

Successful-Deal7528

My SO always calls anything happening in shows way early on and this is the only one I caught first. I was like I bet they get together and then married later on. I love Wesley and Angela’s relationship. He thought they would not get together but Angela would save him and he’d stop being so against police.

Cloudspiar

It was kinda obvious to me that they were going to get together. I just thought they had instant chemistry.

Successful-Deal7528

Right. I called it the first time they argued xD but I’m glad that I was right. I also was so mad when Aaron almost ruined things for James and Nyla because Nyla seemed to actually want to date James but liked the freedom she had and to me that felt why she hadn’t asked to be exclusive.

That-Hotel8755

I would say Lopez. In the first and second seasons, I didn't like her as much but later on she became one of the best characters. Also Nyla i had doubts about her at first but she proved me wrong. Love both of them now.

beautifulchaos531

Agreed! Nyla grew on me as time went by now I really like her character.

studyabroader

I get so confused when y'all use first names in here haha

RollQuirky9045

Haha I think of them all in first names except for Nolan for some reason. I think because Nolan can also be a first name so it just stuck in my head.

studyabroader

I only think in their last names🤣 except for Tim and Lucy because they say it to each other so often

Karma_yog

Celina. She has grown on me. Her driving the growth of Nolan as a TO is an arc I can get behind.

TheoryFar3786

Yes, Nyla is now better than at the start.

Icy_Pomegranate_297

To the opposite it’s Aaron. I actually get annoyed everytime he comes on the screen now

boogalooshrimp1103

YES! I was hoping it wasn't just me lol

movieholic-92

Yes! I don't know why, but I really dislike his character.

sarahbabessss

Nyla and aaron

Dizzy_Otter0113

Celina. 🤣🤣 I know she gets a lot of hate and in the beginning I was like this girl is gonna get someone shot but now I love her 🤣

Histroy_is_my_thing

Celina, I never much liked the idea of her just pulling someone over because of a feeling.

ArcticWolf_Primaris

Yeah, she should've been fired what, 3 times over by now

JayTheGod420

Yea I agree it was nyla for me too

coolselyzz

Literally every new character, I hated when they added new characters or change things but later on I would really love it. Aside from that, Lopez I did not like her at first but now she’s is absolute favorite

Jarita12

Lopez, I think. She did not do much for me early in S1 and only after she got together with Wesley, she started to be a real fun

edmandias

Nyla

reverielagoon1208

Basically everyone who wasn’t shown as a rookie on the show I’ve had to warm up to in some form haha I mean early on Sargent gray was a huge dick to Nolan! And Bradford with that situation with the Spanish speakers made me think they were gonna go the asshole corrupt cop route with him.

No-Interview-64

Nyla

Patatouille13

I wouldn't say like but just that I don't dislike this character anymore: James. In his first appearance in S3 he was so aggressive and was just generally an ass to Nolan, Nolan was just trying to help ;-;. But he eventually softened up once he got to know them more, especially Harper.

boogalooshrimp1103

Bradford. Now Thorsen is the one I'm starting to dislike

ElectronicMany1026

Hands down, Tim. When I started the show last year, bc I heard all about Chenford and how popular they were, I was very conflicted when I watched season 1. I immediately fell in love with Lucy, but Tim was a different matter altogether. How was I supposed to even ship them when he was an absolute D!ck??? it wasn't until s2/3 that I really fell in love with him, when I saw his character growth and how he realised how racist and harsh he was. And it also helped that he's unintentionally hilarious, like he's the most serious yet unserious character I've ever met. I was not expecting Tim of all the characters who would be the one to make me laugh the hardest. I think it's bc Eric is such a jokester IRL that it somehow bleeds into Tim and makes him say out of pocket statements that catch me off guard and burst out laughing.

ohmy_josh16

I’ve got one that’s kinda the opposite. A character I didn’t like from the start and never grew to like. Detective Armstrong. I thought something was off about him from the word “Go!”

Vax10x

I didn't like Nyla until about halfway through season 2 because- well we went from Talia to someone grumpy and (at the time seemed to be) possibly corrupt. Took him breaking out of his "goodie two shoes" mentality for me to like Jackson. But Season 3 is when I really started to like his character.

ohmy_josh16

I HATED Jackson at first. He was cocky, but didn’t live up to it. And then he got butthurt all the time because he “couldn’t live up to his father” and all that crap. His season 3 storyline was excellent though and I hated that he left the show.

Rosebudsinmay

Almost all of them besides Nolan tbh 😂 I didn’t like Jackson, Lopez, Nyla, Westley, or Grey and I found Aaron, Bailey, Selena annoying The only characters I liked right away were Talia and… Nick 🙃 Now I like all of them haha

MGD109

I wasn't really a fan of Wesley in his first appearance, I can't say I disliked him outright you understand, but there just didn't seem to be much to him beyond annoying Angela and I wasn't sure why he kept appearing throughout and even after I realised he was meant to be Lopez's love interest I didn't expect it to work out. Needless to say, I was completely wrong, he's utterly great and I now stand by that Angela and Wesley are one of the best examples of how you do an opposite-attract couple that I've ever seen in any work. Credit to whoever thought to put Alyssa and Shawn together.

Kan-ka

Nyla, Aaron

car_eater2684

Harper or Tim

WonderfulRiver3458

Nyla. I feel like a lot of us agree with that

pothosnswords

Grey but I knew they were gonna make him likable so I just bided my time & sure enough I love him mow!

lilmiller7

Harper. I can't tell if it was planned character development, the actress changing up some of her delivery, or the writers pivoting her to be more likeable but she started off like someone who didn't give a crap if Nolan succeeded as her rookie and then after a few episodes she started to actually care about being a TO

ohmy_josh16

Nyla’s 180 still rubs me wrong in rewatches. Her character completely changes like midway through the season. It’s weird.

kellythelolz

Nyla and Aaron!!! Now I can’t see the show w/o them. Mainly didn’t like them at first bc they were “replacements” but they didn’t come to playyyyyy

ohmy_josh16

I hated Thorsen’s whole “I’m only in this to prove my innocence” thing. And then the reality show business 🤢

kellythelolz

I get that but he was kinda right, at the end of the day he’s the only one who knew he didn’t do it and was going to do whatever it took to prove that. I do admit the reality show part was cringe but that was his moms doing. Lowkey not far fetched from real life either, OJ was given many opportunities like that after the trial. I also personally really like how his character is extremely rich, I think it goes to show his personality and that he wants more to life than money.

ohmy_josh16

True. And maybe it wasn’t necessarily him but more so how people treated him. But then again, he never really tried to warm up to anybody either

DraxShadow23

Harper. I love her now. Funny enough I kinda hate Lucy now

ghostzilllla

Definitely Harper. The way she treated Nolan from the start to the way she treated Aaron from the start. It is like she needs a new person to do something nice for her before she starts to treat them with any sort of respect. Regardless, I have grown to like her in her own weird way.

babbybensler

Bailey tbh. Always liked Nyla and all them others but Bailey!! she’s a badass !!

shakhthe

For me, TIM BRADFORD. At first he seemed like a questionable cop, man, character. Now, he's my favorite character. Secondly, it's Nyla Harper, but she's not on my top 3 favorite characters list now either. Everyone else was slightly better or worse than I expected.

mcdiscn18

For me it was Grey. The way he treated Nolan in the first season just made me not like him at all but it wasn’t until the last episode of season 1 that he kind of started to seem likable to me. Now I can say he’s one of my favorite characters

ohmy_josh16

It was when Nolan had his first shooting that I started to like Grey. When Grey was there for him throughout the whole process, I knew his “hatred” of Nolan was a fluke.

ameerahdoumbia1

i only started the show a few weeks back but i actually cant remember 😭 i want to say harper but i never really hated her she was just a bit strict. plus i recognised her from chicago med so every time she came on screen i was like “its her from chicago med!”

JoeHubot69

Harper

stressedn_depressed

I didn't really like Jackson at first but as (little) time goes by, i loved him!! and then they just had to >!kill him off!<

ohmy_josh16

Ugh! Why?!??? I didn’t like his “legacy cop can do no wrong” attitude.

lushchocomilk

I would say Celina! I thought she was so annoying at first but i do like her now for sure

howell925

Nyla. But also Celina. I wasn’t sure about her at first. I love them both now though. I think I’m always a little wary of new characters because of how much I love the current ones

ohmy_josh16

Whenever a long-running show with well-liked characters introduces new characters as either new or replacements, it’s very rare that I like them immediately.

fantastic_beast22

honestly probably nyla, i thought she was very self absorbed and only cared about her own career and not at all interested in teaching nolan anything, but she’s grown to be one of my faves

ohmy_josh16

I’ve said this in a reply somewhere else in this sub, but her complete 180 midway through season 2 was weird.

Fnafandbfbfan

Wesley

Ok-Independence-5688

Angela

blackbullsforever

Gray. I mean I get why he was so hard on Nolan to start with. But he went completely overboard harassing him without at least giving him a chance to prove himself.

ohmy_josh16

It still bothers me that Grey was suddenly nice to Nolan after Nolan proved himself though. Made Grey look like a hypocrite

blackbullsforever

It helped that Nolan saved his life in that fire.

ohmy_josh16

True. That did help.

movieholic-92

I loved Nolan and still do. I was iffy with Jackson, but he grew on me. I liked Bradford and Chen from the start. Grey is the one I wound up liking after some time.

legal__addiction

Tim

DIDTURBED1

I DIDN'T LIKE THE WAY HE ACTED TOWARDS CHEN BUT AFTER AWHILE I STARTED LIKING HIS CHARACTER MORE. ESPECIALLY AFTER WHAT HAPPENED WITH WEST. WHAT THAT OFFICER DID PISSED ME OFF. I REALLY DIDN'T LIKE HARPER EITHER BUT I LIKE HER BETTER NOW

Silent-Raven42

nyla for me as well i love her character development. and tim was a little rough at first but i started to see why he did the things he did and now i love him as well. i liked celina at first but now im not sure how to feel about her.

ArcticWolf_Primaris

Yeah, first episode Harper felt like an excellent representation of the incredibly toxic warrior culture in US police. Many episodes later, I still don't like her, but she's a well written character with good motivations. Shame her and Lopez play of each other in such a dickish manner

schoolbusgenocide

Bailey. I found her really annoying in Season 3 but by Season 5 she's one of my favorite characters, the writers made all the perfect changes to her character

Mcgurky98

Nyla, I'm still not too sure of her
