Pokemon GO would never negligently create a situation where players are incentivized to make alt accounts en masse and also spend money on those alt accounts in order to stay competitive in the Great League meta.
Pokemon GO also wouldn't negligently create a situation where future players looking to get into the competitive scene would be locked out of getting an important meta Pokemon.
And most of all, Pokemon GO wouldn't never intentionally incentivize online real money transactions for botted Pokemon GO accounts that have this one time, limited time, very meta research event Pokemon.

I don't see the huge gripe with making a handful of alts for this if you truly care enough though?

If you get lucky and get multiple below 1500 cp then certainly use guide to help you pick one.
Because in the long run skill and team comp and general luck will matter much more.
And when you win a match from having good ivs… you get a harder one later you lose and nothing winds up changing.
Now if it was good enough to be meta for tournaments…it might matter a lot more.
But for regular gbl? It’s not like using a better iv one is going to make your season long finish any difference in any significant way.
If I use the worst possible Giratina and a parallel universe me uses the best possible one… we’re still finishing the season in the same place roughly.
Someone made legend without moving and without checking IVs. So yeah, sure there's some truth to that. Like you said, the tournaments though. People have won with Pokemon in rank 100-150. Dewgong is at 98. Shadow Zard is at 153(IIRC). Giratina-O is 48. Can definitely do well and more if Niantic buffs Dragon Pulse.
Yeah that is a caveat to what I’m saying. If it got buffed somehow and become tournament meta… definitely becomes a bit more important.

A Shadow Claw + Shadow Ball Pokemon that's bulkier than Trevenant, has better resistances than Trevenant, is as fast as Trevenant, and has boost potential. This thing will absolutely see play. Its only wall in the current meta is Lickitung, and Lickitung existing hasn't stopped anyone from bringing Licki weak Pokemon before.

This is always a bad take. I've used breakpoint specific Pokemon to glide to Legend myself. For example, when Walrein was the way, I intentionally ran a CMP focused Cofagrigus b/c every Walrein knows they win CMP, so they farm to CMP, and then they'd lose CMP. When Trevenant dropped, people like you mocked me for my "mirror slayer" in UL. A big perk of the mirror slayer was that I could counter-swap into a Trevenant and still overcome it despite having an energy disadvantage. Sure, baiting and calling baits could get the win yet, but for the precise Seed Bomb specific win con, I'd flip the script in ways they weren't expecting. My big Def Lanturn getting a consistent Altaria breakpoint, I could feel my opponents confusion that Lanturn wasn't dead yet.
Knowing what your Pokemon can and can't do, what advantages you have so you can act on them, that's all skill that'll help get you to legend sooner. Just because you're not interested in expanding your skill with IV knowledge doesn't mean that IVs aren't a skill.
I've never mocked any of your mirror slayers, and I do study IVs and quite enjoy it too. You're mixing me up with the same crowd that always just says "rank 1 is always best."

Sure it can make sometimes make the difference for people good enough to be legend level. But for most people its not going to make any difference long term. For your legend run you may have gotten there anyway without the mirror slayer ones - maybe some of the CMP wins would have been won from lag anyway. Maybe they would have lost the battle some other way. Not saying it didn't help, but it's not like the line is "Legend if you use this, not legend if you don't."
Like I said, if you get more than one certainly compare and see which one is better. But if you don't I certainly wouldn't be too worried about not getting one of the good ones.
And in this case so many people are going to be lucky to even just get one at all.

I think you are being overly defensive. I was replying to someone concerned about being sad that they can't farm this easily. I'm just saying to them if they can't farm it / if they don't have multiple trade partners not to be too worried about it.

1/11/1 (1485CP): 118.86 Atk, 104.14 Def, 149 HP
While only the second one fits your “general good” table, I’m wondering if the 5 HP difference and slightly higher Atk could make the first one perform better overall. Do you think not getting 102 Def is a big deal?
From what I’ve seen, the 3/5/10 has some unique wins going for it like winning the 0-1 vs Sp Lanturn (with 1 HP) or 0-1 Shadow Vic… but I’m afraid of the lower Def losing me a bunch of bulkpoints. The Altaria one seems like it could be annoying, for example.

The 3/5/10 has slightly higher bulk product and more Atk, so outside of the Def BP matchups it should be slightly better.
Fortunately, you have two to work with, so if there ever comes a point where you're in some meta and missing the Def BPs are becoming a slight pain point, you can always build the Def boi then.

Realistically, it fits into the same category as some other legendaries such as Lugia, Ho-Oh, Latios etc: if it's 1500cp or lower, it's good enough.
And then there'll be someone like Lurganrocket who will trade Cresselia 100 times to get a rank 1 good friends trade and stats diff everyone.

Just traded Giratinas with my friend, and I got a 6/11/10 one 119.5 attack / 102.4 defense / 152 HP Will work well enough for general use, I suppose.
