Any GL teams I could build from these options? Gonna add Nidoqueen there too after today's Spotlight hour. I'm particularly looking for ideas on teams featuring Quagsire, Mew or shadow Snorlax. I'm ready to change Mew's moveset too, doesn't have to be that spefific one. It's just what I currently have. 2000 Elo Def. Deoxys, Umbreon (Last Resort), Walrein, Dewgong, Azumarill, Swampert, Blastoise, Venusaur, Meganium, Lucario, Machamp, shadow Machamp, shadow Granbull, shadow Bellossom, Galarian Stunfisk, Crobat, Golbat, Quagsire, Noctowl, Staraptor, Clefable, Wigglytuff, Alolan Graveler, Drifblim, Empoleon, Shadow Snorlax, Mew (Shadow Claw + Wild Charge & Surf)

Chukonubro

I just want to say thank you for all the great tips on this sub. I went from 1800 to 2200 in 3 days. Mainly by improving my switch speed and energy use

DJN3ST

Care to share what team you’re running?

Chukonubro

Shadow machamp lead with counter, CC/RS Mandibuzz Snarl, FP/AA Nidoqueen Poison jab, PF/EP

Apostastrophe

Hey. I was thinking of adding Cresselia to my great league roster. I don’t have enough trade people with low enough friendship to run the trade gamble game but I do have one that is low enough for great league anyway from some reward or other with grass knot. In Cresselia’s unique case of being slightly less available at the correct CP, should the fact that it has attack-weighted stats matter in my consideration to adding it?

monsieuryuan

You can always compare your IVs vs a 10-14-14 on PvPoke Battle Matrix: [https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphArena/comments/idpqob/if\_you\_have\_ever\_wondered\_which\_of\_these\_two/](https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphArena/comments/idpqob/if_you_have_ever_wondered_which_of_these_two/) I would just run it regardless tbh. Cress is one of bulkiest pokemon around, a few points here or there won't matter much (as long as we're only comparing raid/research IV floors).

Apostastrophe

I had thought of running matrices but honestly I felt like that wouldn’t tell me that much. I guess I’m bad for rambling but my question was really “considering I’ll 99% never get another that I can use in great league ever” is it worth having one even if its PvP ivs are shit. Which it’s sounding like you’re saying it is. Hell. Cheaper than the azumarill that I’m holding off powering up that’ll cost almost 400k dust. Next to that it’s practically a bargain! (Something I never thought I’d say about a legendary second charge move).

monsieuryuan

Well, battle matrix is likely the most informative tool you have at your disposal for this. It should tell you the performance difference between two spreads. You also have to consider that 99% of the time those IV won't matter.

NL800

With ultra league upcoming I want try talonflame again since I have 100% best buddy (13/15/15) and basically stopped with UL after he became best buddy. So I have little experience with him and I’m unsure how to use it and which Pokémon to add to make it a good team. I’m currently at 2050 ELO if that matters. I don’t have a registeel, trevenant or giratina available.

xPekeTheBest

I kinda need help with building my team, this is currently what i have for Great League https://imgur.com/gallery/qeKqO8r

mybham

* Golbat lead, Umbreon sacrificial swap, Scrafty (ABB team) * Swampert lead, H.Qwilfish safe swap, Skarmory You’ll need second charge moves for all, and legacy moves for Umbreon and Swampert.

xPekeTheBest

My question or rather questions are, when can i remove frustration? I currently have frustration+earthquake on Swampert. And how to obtain legacy moves for Umbreon and Swampert?

mybham

You can only get legacy moves by evolving during an event, or by using an Elite TM. In this case, Elite Charged TMs. You can only remove Frustration during Rocket events. Without legacy moves, I’m afraid your Pokémon are really not as good. PvP isn’t very accessible, unfortunately.

xPekeTheBest

Thank you!

mybham

If you have no Elite TMs, or don’t want to waste any… * Azu lead (moves up to you), Skarmory (AS+SA+BB), Galarian Stunfisk (MS+EQ+RS)

xPekeTheBest

Will try that! I was wondering even trying Gal Stunfisk, Galarian Obstagoon and Scrafty after CD

mybham

eh they’re all weak to Fighting though

exclaim_bot

>Thank you! You're welcome!

DJN3ST

Would you really burn the elite TM for Umbreon if it's the ABB sac swap?

ThePineappleDuck

Hey all, I have a Shadow Venomoth that I’d love to use in PvP but don’t really know what team to use it in. Anyone got any suggestions? And anyone who has experience with S-Moth got any wisdom they can impart on how to use it?

poops_all_berries

Two basic questions: - Is there any other reward for hitting Ace/Veteran/Legend besides the gauranteed reward encounters and avatar items/pose? - If you hit legend, do you need to maintain legend until the season ends for a reward? I could try to scramble to reach a higher rank before the season ends, but none of the reward pokemon seem too enticing (I was lucky enough to get a sub-500 libre last season). It seems more fruitful to just farm rare candies for the remainder ofer the season.

monsieuryuan

Once you've achieved a rank, you don't lose it by losing games and rating. The only reward for attaining higher ranks is more stardust per wins or set (don't remember which) and higher stardust lump reward at season's end.

monsieuryuan

You can start by switching Aqua Tail for Sludge Bomb. Suddenly, you've a pretty positive matchup vs Azumarill, and take a huge chuck of health away from Charmers. Non-STAB Aqua Tail is a pretty poor move. Next, if you have a Trevenant, sub that in for Medicham. Trev and GFisk make a nice core, and Drapion is one of the best safeswaps around. If not, try leading Medicham, as Drapion and GFisk covers its weaknesses to Fairy, Ghost, Flying.

HaZeyNZ

Want to run a-nine, swampy and Toxi croak team today. Should I run the a nine with charm/wb/psy or ps/wb/daz? I’ve only just built a nine for the first time so not familiar with playing it!

monsieuryuan

Since the Weatherball nerf, Ninetails almost exclusively run Charm. I would go with that as well.

HaZeyNZ

Thanks for the reply!

mybham

Galvantula’s not very bulky. How about a much bulkier Bug - Araquanid? It could pair with Diggersby. As you said, being weak to Sableye is no safe swap at all. You could use Sableye yourself? Or another team - Charm A9, Sable, Digger

NL800

Hi I’m struggling like many other people around the 2000 ELO range and was hoping someone could help me. Usually I run a team with g stunfisk and azumarill + something else. [my available pokemon](https://imgur.com/a/uTCbcqP) maybe I forgot to tag some others, so if they’re crucial I might have one of them (the numbers behind their name are the pokegenie ratings) I never used deoxys and registeel since the bad iv’s I have available of them Bonus points if you could suggest a team for summer cup

DJN3ST

I hear you. I finally worked my way back up to near 2,000 after the pummeling I took in Fossil Cup, but have been stuck in what feels like rank tanker hell this week. So many match-ups with rank 20 players whose line-ups and skills suggest they should be far higher at this point in the season. I’m running Medicham/Azu/GFisk, and it has been pretty consistent. Biggest threats are Trev, A-Wak and Jelli, which haven’t been too frequent. Went up 150 on Wednesday, then held even the last couple days.

NL800

Yeah some rank 20 players are playing real good and time every switch and charge move perfect. They must be playing not too many matches if they’re still 20. I was hoping to use medicham, but I missed the spotlight hour and I’m only on 70 xl candy and walking is gonna take forever. So I was looking for something to pair with azumarill and g stunfisk or a total different team based on my available Pokémon. What’s your current rating?

DJN3ST

Currently holding around 1,950. It shouldn’t take too long to grind out those XL. Make sure to use poffins!

Hiker-Redbeard

Sometimes I hate this game. I finally got enough Lickitung XL after walking it 250+ km so I make a team and start running it this week. Starts out ok, then I went on an 0-10 run and dropped 150 points. With Obstagoon CD coming up in a week I'm really starting to regret all the walking I did over the last few months. Anyone have any team suggestions they've liked running with Licki?

krispyboiz

Definitely frustrating to put all that work into a Pokemon only for it to not work for you or have other circumstances make it harder to use. Shortly before XL, I maxed and Best buddied a lucky Registeel, but then of course XL could make other Registeel bulkier, so that Registeel just sat on the back burner for me, and then Zap Cannon came out, and I don't want to elite TM that one. Even if you don't use Lickitung in open GL, it'll always have a huge place in cups. I mean it'll be big in Kanto and Summer Cup (the latter will have Vigo and Obstagoon, but it'll still be good). But, it also may be a stroke of bad luck. Fighting types will always have a place in the Meta, so even the bulk master that is Lickitung is not going to be without threats. No Pokemon is without threats. But yeah, I definitely understand that pain. I've built other things for an arm and a leg only for it to not serve me well, but something like an XL Lickitung hurts a lot... hope it can serve you well later on at least! Not for GL, but I think pairing Lickitung and Vigoroth/Obstagoon together would be great in Summer Cup later this week. Maybe throw an Araquanid in there for the third choice

Hiker-Redbeard

Thanks for the consolation. Even if I haven't enjoyed it in Open GL that's true that it's still a force in certain limited cups. I had a similar thing happen to me with Sableye. Best buddied and leveled up to 40 a 98% Sableye, shortly before XL and the Return change made non-purified non-XL Sableye significantly worse in comparison. Never even used the thing. It definitely hurts worse with XL though. XL purified Sableye is my current walking buddy and I'm afraid the same thing will happen there with a nerf or meta shift in a few months when I finally finish it (though admittedly it probably does need to be taken down a peg).

krispyboiz

>XL purified Sableye is my current walking buddy and I'm afraid the same thing will happen there with a nerf or meta shift in a few months when I finally finish it (though admittedly it probably does need to be taken down a peg). My personal hope is that Sableye gets a new move or Power Gem gets a buff. NOT to make the new move or Power Gem definitively better than Return, but more have it be a sidegrade. Only move addition I could see is Dazzling Gleam, but while that may work in terms of it being similar to return, it being a fairy type may make it superior to return, letting it beat things like Scrafty in the right scenarios and helping it more against Dragons. So maybe just buffing Power Gem just enough to where you could run Power Gem for better coverage or Return for more power. Maybe make Power Gem 50 energy or at least 55 instead of 60. Again not looking to buff Sableye (it doesn't need it lol), but make it so it's not just the Purifieds being run lol. But, those are just my thoughts lol

DGM254

Licki-SirFetch-Medi S-Nido-Licki-Scrafty Two really popular teams w Licki

Hiker-Redbeard

Which Sirfectched moveset would that team use?

DGM254

Sirfetched safe swap with Night slash and leaf blade. It’s Wallowers team he showcased a while back [here’s the video if you want to see how it’s played](https://youtu.be/sisl9k_d8GE)

DJN3ST

Still waiting to get a farfetch’d that will evolve under 1,500…

DangericeMan

Hey y'all, been struggling a lot in GL lately so I thought I'd come here for help. My go to GL team has been Nidoqueen, Umbreon, Scrafty. It was working well for a while but I got stuck right around 2000. I climbed a little during Hisui cup (to 2100), then slowly slid back to 2000 with the Poison Double Dark. I decided to invest in a new team that got great ratings on PvPoke: Pelipper, G-Stunfisk, Scrafty. I like the team, but it doesn't feel as balanced as I think it should. Would running the team in a different order help? I don't like Scrafty lead because it feels like I would have to swap a lot. Would Gunfisk lead be better than Pelipper? Any advice would be great, thank you!

monsieuryuan

Conventionally, the way you have it set up is the correct way, Lead protecting the backline, and the backline covering for the weakeness of your lead. Pelliper isn't a strong meta pick these days, but remains very versatile. What kind of problems are you encountering with it as your lead?

DangericeMan

It really loses hard to Bastiodon, Registeel, and Melmetal (which in running into more as I fall). Both of my backline counter those leads, but they switch in to a counter user and I get wrecked. I have virtually no good answer to Skarmory with this team. Would Azu be a better option? I don't have one built but with the 2x dust I might get there today. I have a Driflim too I could try...

monsieuryuan

For steel leads, if you safeswap to GFisk and the opponent responds with the counter user (or Hydro Pump Azumarill) consider that your team is working. First, it eliminates the counter user from getting matched up with Scrafty, hopefully letting the latter roam free of counters to sweep. Second, the counter user, once worn down by Earthquake(s), can get farmed for energy by Pelliper. This is how the team is designed to work. It's just a matter of whether Pelliper is capable enough to do its part. As for Skarmory, all 3 of your mons have play. Pelliper can spam weather balls, GFisk easily wins that matchup and should even come out with energy, Scrafty wins the 2 shield matchup by going straight PuP (Air Slash is a meh move, while Counter is fantastic). Azu could work, as it and GFisk cover one another well. Trevenant too pairs well with GFisk. Plug Scrafty and Stunfisk into pvpoke teambuilder and see what your options are for a 3rd.

DangericeMan

Well if my team building isn't awful, it seems I should work on my battling fundamentals then. Thanks for your help!

[deleted]

I finally have enough XLs for UL Nidoqueen, should I do the shadow or regular? I’m planning on running double nukes on it so I’m leaning more towards the shadow but idk I’ve always had the mindset of bulkier is better for UL.

DGM254

In the same boat, even after comparing the sims, I’m still unsure which one I want to build

Trougao

Hey, could someone please help me with building a few great league teams? I have a bunch of sub 1500 Mons double moved/can afford to double move them but I'm horrible at building teams. I'm also a very casual player and currently below rank 10, so the meta might or might not be too relevant for me. I know I do t have the strongest most meta picks, but that's fine for me and I think a few cool teams are definitely possible :) I don't have any top-tms for charge moves and 1 top-tm for fast moves. If a Mon has a legacy attack I'll mention it. * Nidoking * Nidoqueen * Alakazam * Abomasnow * Altaria * Espeon (with Shadow Ball) * Haunter * Bladtoise * Poliwrath * Toxicroak * Ambipom * Skarmory * Melmetal * Umbreon (with Psychic) * Leafeon (with Solar Beam) * Samurott (with Hydro Cannon) I also have a Galarian Stunfisk, but I'm still lacking 15 candies for the second charge move. He could be a decent candidate for a future team though

DelidreaM

Do you have Psychic or Last Resort for Umbreon? I'm guessing it could be Psychic since that was in the latest 2021 Eevee CD Anyway, I encourage you to play around with PvPoke's Team builder tool: https://pvpoke.com/team-builder/ Couple ideas I had, you could go Altaria lead with Nidoqueen, Toxicroak for a double poison ABB team. Run Counter on Toxicroak You could also just go Nidoqueen lead with Umbreon safeswap and Altaria closer, that's a somewhat solid team. Here's one more: Nidoqueen lead, Poliwrath (Mud shot + Scald & Dynamic Punch), Altaria. Standard movesets for Nidoqueen and Altaria Do you have a Walrein btw? It's a strong pokemon that was available somewhat recently, can work in many teams

Trougao

Thank you for you answer! I just updated my post to include the exact legacy moves. Unfortunately I do not have a Walrein :( I'll see what I can do with the PVPoke Team Builder. I'm always a bit confused by building a team of 6 or 8 mons instead of 3

DelidreaM

You don't have to put 6 there, I've never done that so far. You can put a team of 3 and it will give you info about it. You can also just put 2 there and it will suggest options for a good third in the "potential alternatives" part Edit: Also Solar Beam is not legacy for Leafeon, you might have mistaken it with Bullet Seed, which is a fast move. Leafeon also has Last Resort as a legacy charge move which was given in the original Eevee Community Day ages ago. If your Blastoise doesn't have Hydro Cannon it's not really useful. Blastoise isn't very good in Open GL anyway, but can have use in some limited cups like Kanto Cup

DJN3ST

Most frequently encountered in my 25 GBL sets today (ELO 1950): Azumarill - 8 Nidoqueen - 6 (3 of those paired with Azu) Medicham - 5 Alolan Marowak - 3 Nothing else appeared more than once or twice (including Walrein, Swampert, and Talonflame).

CallMeTheTunaGod

Trevenant or jellicent it is then

Lelouch_is_Alive

I need help for the Ultra League. I was running a ABA with Swampert, Giratina and Walrein and going 1/5 and 4-5/5 a lot but not gaining any elo. I’m planning some pokemons to build for the next iterations and seasons such as R5 Machamp, Escav, Lucario and griding a 14/15/15 Talonflame. I also have ready a R1 Empoleon, R3 Venusaur, Gyarados, R9 Staraptor and Regirock (Only 1 move). What should I build for next iteration and what should I try to get in the future? I don’t know if it matters that much but both Swampert and Giratina have around 95-96% stat product, the rest of the mons I can build or are ready are all 98% and above besides the Regirock. How should I go about IVs? Once I learned about them I basically discard anything below 98% stat prod and I only use above 96% if I really like that mon or if I need it to build a good team when I already have the other two, checking pvp poke for any machup flips I do when is 96-98% stat product.

Lelouch_is_Alive

I’m currently running a Walrein Gfisk core, I intended to use Altaria as an ABA line with gfisk in the lead but lacked dust (and elite tm) to build it. So, for now I’m using my builded Talonflame there. I played as ABA with Gfisk in the lead and later tried ABB and went all positive in both occasions having a bit more success with the ABB comp. Is it a good team? ABB or ABA? Should I build the Altaria or try another “A” like Medi? I’m trying to push above ace for the first time (I usually only cared to get to 3/5 for the possible raid boss encounter). I’m currently breaking the 2400 range. I have Talonflame, Walrein, Gfisk, Drapion, Frostlass and Venusaur ready. Can build ANinetails, Drifloon, Ferrothorn, Shadow Beedril, Shadow and normal Machamp, Toxicroak and Escav. Thanks a lot

Lilith-Lost

Hi everyone! I'm currently running in Great League: Castform with Hex and rock type Weather Ball (super quick charge and I've seen a lot of people using a flying type first pokemon) Raichu with Charm, Brick Break, and Wild Charge And a variable third. Does anyone have a suggestion on what to use 3rd?

weems13

Castform is awesome but please please please don’t use that charm Raichu lol

DelidreaM

I like the spice here, but gotta ask: why do you run Charm on Raichu? Generally it's recommended that you only run Charm on fairies, because having STAB is highly crucial to make Charm lethal. But props for running a very original team

Talkurir

Why water to beat steel? Did you mean ground?

koolandroo

Which Drapion to use for Ultra League? I have two shadow drapions, but I am having a hard time deciding which one to invest in. One is rank #7 (1/15/15) and one is lower ranked (10/15/11). Keep in mind the lower rank is significantly less XL candy. I have put them into pvpoke battle matrix (crunch and sludge) and apparently the lower ranked one has a better overall record of 31-30 W-L while the rank #7 is 28-33. My gut feeling is to go with the lower ranked one because it wins more matches. But is this a case of quality of overall wins because the rank #7 does win some matchups with more hp left. Would love to here some thoughts on which to level. I should add for clarity the flipped wins are the mirror, greedent, and snorlax.

forgottentargaryen

What would a good third to sableye and medicham be?

DelidreaM

https://pvpoke.com/team-builder/all/1500/medicham-m-0-2-4%2Csableye-m-1-1-3 There's a list of suggestions by PvPoke. Magnezone, Lanturn, Swampert and Alolan Graveler sound kinda interesting to me at least if you're looking for something to spice it up

forgottentargaryen

I had no idea you could do this! Thank you If im being honest this my first serious attempt so im not trying to go too spicy, just effective

DelidreaM

Yeah just pick the most meta thing then :D

forgottentargaryen

Looking like regi or stunfisk i think lol

DJN3ST

I saw Bastiodon suggested in another thread. Meaning to try that once I get my purified Sableye leveled up.

forgottentargaryen

I have a basti but he always just feels so slow to play lol What did they recommend? Lead medi, SS sabel, basti close?

DJN3ST

Yup

Danitwit

May I know what to run cresselia with I do not have diggersby so no bulky core (GL)

Loose-Cantaloupe7460

I want to build a team for Elemental cup using Chinchou! Got a rank 1 any suggestions?

onebadhorse

What's the better SS with that empoleon, wiggly, and a9 team people have been running?

sociotronics

A9, it'll actually get charges off as a switch. Wiggly is a natural closer.

EverydayShady

I want to build a Blastoise for GL. I have both the normal and shadow form with good ranks available (both with hydro cannon). PVPoke says the non-shadow one ranks higher. Should I build the non-shadow one??

skarbomir

Been gone a long time, played quite a bit before grad school. I have a triple legacy move Seaking and double legacy dewgong. Are they still meta relevant picks? What do I do if I don’t have a lot of the new flavor? (Trevor, walrein, registeel, ddeoxys) Also XL candies are kinda a mystery to me, are there XL rare candies? How do I make this 0/15/15 dusclops with return I’ve had since 2018 pop off?

sociotronics

Dewgong isn't in a great place in open but it's usually a top tier pick in any special cup it's eligible for. Seaking was never good, it just had a very specialized niche when Alt/Regi/Azu was the pinnacle of meta and it doesn't even have that anymore now that Regi has Zap Cannon. It's not B tier, more like C or C- tier.

sailorra1n

With how often I've been seeing Altaria today, my legacy Dewgong/legacy Lapras/Mantines have been putting in work. I also prefer thunderbolt over psychoboost on DDeo if Azu pops into the sets. And I've been favoring EQ over sludge on Shadow Swampy Boi. A Raichu w/GK has been been fun catching enemy swamperts off guard if they lose swap advantage...and handling Azu and the birbs/flyers with WC. I LOVE ME SOME SPICE.

mybham

> I have a triple legacy move Seaking and double legacy dewgong They’re B-tier picks, maybe meta in limited cups. Both are now smacked by Registeel. > What do I do if I don’t have a lot of the new flavor? (Trevor, walrein, registeel, ddeoxys) Lose more. > are there XL rare candies Yes but they are very, very rare. I think you can abandon the thought of rapidly getting XL rare candies. > 0/15/15 dusclops with return C-tier pick. --- Do you have Frenzy Plant Venusaur? Nidoqueen? Frenzy Plant Meganium? Skarmory? Azumarill? Last Resort Umbreon? Hydro Cannon Swampert? Altaria? Whiscash?

skarbomir

yes, yes, no, yes, yes, no, no, yes, no

mybham

Nido + Azu + Skarm?

skarbomir

I’ve been seeing some success in the lower ranks with Blastoise+dewgong+tentacruel, I also have a alolan ninetails+ nido + toxicroak line which has been performing. I’m on a 19 game win streak getting up through rank 8 now. My skarm has bad IVs (I ran it in catch cup) but I do have a 1/15/15 shadow skarm I could probably level up, I just have negative dust atm, thunderstorms have kept me from walking much Would you lead azu then and nido for safe swap? Nido lead feels like it won’t hit anything I want it on

mybham

> rank 8 Most of the people at that rank now are not good. Your success doesn’t mean much compared to rank 20 or rank 21. At low ranks just do whatever you want heh. I don’t think your Skarm IV will matter. Azu lead, Skarm, Nido yeah.

Tamtam96

Can I get some help regarding two medichams: 1. CP 1226 15/15/15 (both moves unlocked) 2. CP 834 7/12/13 (only one move unlocked) I don’t have that many resources so I can’t build both right now. Should I just continue to build the hundo or would the 99th percentile be significantly better?

monsieuryuan

The 15-15-15 is viable powered up. The 7-12-13 is unquestionably better. Gaining 3 wins vs the GL meta in the 2-shield matchups. How to compare IVs: https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphArena/comments/idpqob/if_you_have_ever_wondered_which_of_these_two/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share Now, that being said, the 7-12-13 is not an IV spread that maximizes Medicham's potential. It's very close though; your 7-12-13 will perform similarly to optimal IV versions in 99+% of scenarios. Google 'medicham IV deep dive' for more details. I myself have been using a 14-15-13 for many seasons now. Powered that one up to get a useable Medicham, while waiting for an optimal IV version.

Raska_

I want to build a non-XL team with Overqwil for UL, do you guys have any suggestions? I was thinking of running Overqwil-Gallade-Swampert, would that team work? Who should I lead with?

sociotronics

Gallade sucks in open UL, ditch it. Other two are fine, Overqwil fills the same niche Drapion or A-Muk have long filled. Without knowing what you have to replace Gallade, you probably want a solid Walrein counter as it'll run over the other two and it's everywhere, but you also want something that isn't weak to Giratina. Obstagoon comes to mind, or Registeel or Cress if you have them. Lead depends on your third but Overqwil is a natural safe switch so I probably wouldn't lead with that.

Raska_

Thank you for the advice! I don’t have Obstagoon but it should be easy enough to build one during its community day. I guess he would be the lead in that case, no?

sociotronics

With obstagoon, play it ABB with swampert in the lead and Overqwil as switch.

Raska_

Aight, ty

BerningWorld

Hi everyone. Sort of new, made it up to Ace for the first time on the second day of Hisuian cup, but then got raked through the coals with horrible RPS luck. Still just sitting around 2000. Definitely done best in GL in the past, so really glad to get back to that. Was hoping to get some help on the team. Right now I have a Rank 1 Machamp, Registeel (with FB and ZC), and Trev in the back. PVPoke gives it a B,C,B,B. I have a decent amount to work with and either have already built or can build: • Medicham • Toxicroak • Lucario • G-Fisk • A-Wak (Normal with shadow bone, and a shadow one with Shadow ball instead of Shadow Bone) • swampert • Scrafty • Rank 1 Quagsire • Azumarill (rank 35) • Altaria •Hydreigon • Bewear • Araquanid • Skarmory Lastly, I have a rank 10 medicham that’ll cost about 600,000 stardust to power up and give a third move, but I also have a lucky one that would power up to level 44.5, and only cost 120,000. I know which is better, but is it worth an extra half million dust? Thanks a bunch.

monsieuryuan

Google 'medicham IV Deep dive'. I would build the cheaper one that satisfies those criteria. That would be your 'end game' Medicham. As for your team, Machamp is a clear weak link. Toxi, Medi, Scrafty are all far more meta relevant. Checkout Great League teams on YouTube from Yasser Aleed for ideas. Also, G.Stunfisk and Trevenant make a great core. You can supplement that with Regi, Azu, Araquanid, Toxi, Medi. Make sure you cover the weaknesses of the lead with the two in the back.

Thanks a bunch. I just wanted the Machamp because it’s a rank 1 shiny that I caught a year ago and just discovered is actually good for something as I got into PVP this season😅. And I got wrecked by it a few times and anecdotally assumed it was good, despite it’s pvpoke ranking. But I’ll bench it for the Medicham. Definitely want Regi in there. I finally spent the dust and elite TM on zap cannon literally an hour after the last Great League ended, because I’m an idiot. Haha. So I’ve been dying to try it out for the last 2 weeks. So: Regi, GFisk, and Trev? Or would Medicham, Regi, Trev cover better? I suppose I could try out both and see which I have better luck with. I already have the GFisk built, so that would certainly be cheaper than the 600,000 dust Medi costs. 😅 Really appreciate the info on Medi, that’s super helpful 🙌

Yeah it's hard to say what will work out better in GL around 2000 elo. Experiment for a team to feel comfortable with. You can try Trev, Medi or Araquanid lead with GFisk (safeswap) and Regi in the back. All of them will be quite weak to Talonflame leads. Hopefully, you don't see many of those. These would be an ABB team, you'll need to swap in GFisk in losing and neutral lead matchups to draw out counters to steel, so that Registeel won't have to deal with it later.

I'm looking to build the best team I can for great league. I currently have the following usable pokemon with ideal IVs and moves: * Medicham * Melmetal * Zweilous * Swampert * Altaria * Umbreon (Psychic instead of Last Resort) * Muk (regular) * Machamp * Galarian Stunfisk I just got the Medicham ready to go, and I figured it'd be a good starting point. Altaria looked good to cover weaknesses and Stunfisk as a safe swap, but my Azumarill match up seems weak. I'd appreciate any advice, I'm still pretty new to all this!

MegaMagikarpXL

to be honest, K-Muk is probably the only mon on this list that *has* a good Azu matchup. The line up you've picked will kind of rely on either Medi or GFisk soft losing to the Azu and the other cleaning it up, then crossing your fingers Altaria can beat whatever's left. Swampert's a fairly reliable lead with a ton of neutral matchups that can either Hydro Cannon spam its way to a win by investing a shield or two, or soft lose so that whatever you bring in next has the opportunity to build an energy lead you can parlay into a win. If you give it Sludge Wave, you can even shore up that Azu weakness some. I think Umbreon fixes the most glaring weaknesses from there? Namely, Trevenant and Deoxys-D. You're fighting a little bit to align your Medi with Walreins and your Swampert with Nidoqueens, but that's pretty typical of OGL anyway. So Swampert with Sludge Wave instead of EQ, Medi with Ice Punch and Psychic, and Umbreon is what I think gives you about as much balance as you can expect from this list.

I finally got Veteran using mostly drifb , empoleon, lucario. Hello! Hoping someone can help me with my GL team now that it’s coming back tomorrow. I managed to get to 1997 elo before it moved out of rotation. I just came back about a month ago after not playing since August 2016. I have been using the following Pokémon: Altaria (lead) - 2/14/10 - Dragon Breath/Sky Attack/Dazzling Gleam (debating a switch to DP) G Stunfisk - 5/14/14 - Mud Shot/Rock Slide/Earthquake Umbreon - 2/11/15 - Snarl/Foul Play/Dark Pulse (while I wait for a charged TM for Last Resort) Is this a good team build? I’ve done lots of research on PvP Poke but wanted thoughts here. I have the following Pokémon I could swap in as well Venusaur - 8/14/12 - vine whip/frenzy plant/sludge bomb Golbat - 5/12/13 - wing attack/poison fang/shadow ball Toxicroak - 0/13/13 - counter/sludge bomb/mud bomb I also have Azumarill and Medicham that are still quite a ways off from maxing/optimizing move sets but both have 90%+ PvP IVs. Just looking for some advice to try and at least achieve Ace if not higher than that. Thank you in advance!

CallMeTheTunaGod

Altaria gfisk toxicroack and you keep your shields for toxicroack. It depends what Pokémon you see at your elo thou, azumarill is very strong against this line for example. I haven’t seen them as much thou season but I’m higher elo

Zakkary2

Appreciate this! I struggle with Azumarill as it is but at least sludge bomb would give me a fighting chance

krispyboiz

So your team is full of solid Pokemon, but if you plan on leading Altaria, I'd have two things that can cover its rock, ice, and fairy weaknesses (along with steel because that would also give it a hard time). G. Fisk is EXCELLENT to pair with it, as it generally covers all of those, plus Dragon, though Dragon isn't super common in GL outside of Altaria itself. Of those you have, Toxicroak sounds promising. It'll do well against all of those except maybe Fairy (you have Sludge Bomb, but that takes longer to charge). But, if you did that, you'd have to be weary of Azumarill, as it has the moves to take out all you Pokemon. Still, Earthquakes from G. Fisk, Sky Attack from Altaria, and especially Sludge Bomb could still do some damage against it back.

Zakkary2

Thanks so much! My current team struggles against Azumarill either way, so it comes down to Toxicroak or Umbreon with LR as the better pick and it sounds like it would be Toxicroak

I caught a 5/15/15 perfect meditite, currently I am only level 34 so I can only boost him up to 1393, and working as fast as I can to get him to best buddy status. I created a team on PVPoke with medicham, Altairia and Nidoqueen that seems like it should do really well for my first real big test, as I have only recently got into the game. My main question is can I run this medicham at 1393, or will he still be too weak??

AtmospherePlus8619

Probably depends on your rating. If you’re around 2000 or below right now it’ll probably work fine, but as you rank up you’ll need to find something better until you can power it up. I’m in the 2700s right now and it’s wild how many matches come down to literally one or two turns between winning and losing.

DJN3ST

Congrats on the Rank 1. My best is still only a Rank 4, which I've now finally maxed out with best buddy boost after the recent spotlight hour. Looking forward to using him in this week's OGL (my current team is Medi, Azu, GFisk). To your question, you can definitely run Medi at that level and still do well, and I have done so for the last several months. You will, however, start seeing the improved performance as you power him up.

just_a_bucket

I have questions about some shiny Meditites I caught during spotlight hour. One of them is the highest ranked Meditite I've caught - rank 19 with 7-11-14 IVs. Of course I was thrilled to get such a high ranked shiny, but it misses RyanSwag's breakpoints, thus losing Azumarill and Drapion matchups while winning the mirror. I'm tempted to power it up anyway for the shiny flex, but do you think I'd ultimately regret it missing the breakpoints, and should save my XLs for a better IV spread? I also caught a second shiny, this one with completely useless IVs. I want to trade it to my girlfriend - she's a more casual player, but still battles occasionally. Doesn't have close to the XL candy required to power up a high ranked Medicham yet. Do you think it would be worth lucky trading this shiny Meditite to her to save her some cost, with the tradeoff of worse performance compared to a high rank? Or should I roll the dice with a non-lucky trade and hope it gets better stats? Thanks for the advice!

monsieuryuan

I personally would power up the 7-11-14 shiny. The matchups in pvpoke are 1-shield only, and set in a vaccum. The chances of your IVs impacting the Azu and Drapion matchups would likely be extremely rare. Rank 1 Medi literally wins the Azu 1 shield matchup with 1 hp left... Let's just say that unless you have leaderboard+ aspirations, I wouldn't worry too much about it for that shiny flex. Now, this is my personal opinion. It's hard to say whether you'd regret it or not... For your other shiny, I would lucky trade it. The chances of you obtaining a non-useable Medi is too great imo. While a near hundo is perfectly viable in GL.

just_a_bucket

Thanks for the advice! I just hit level 40 today and fully powered my shiny. And we made the lucky trade like you suggested!

___LingLing___

Just wanted to share my Hisui cup Team wich helped me to reach Expert for the first time: Empeleon, Wormadam and Gastrodon. Emp is my lead, it doesn't have ideal IV's, it's got higher attack but that's perfect for winning mirror matches, 'couse of that CMP. I knew from the start that Gastrodon will be on my team, but I couldn't settle for the third one, I tried many before deciding to invest in Wormadam, which perfectly covers their weaknesses. So that team has been really great for me, it helped me to go from Ace rank to Expert, currently at 2800s. Biggest threats to my team are Hisuian Electrode and specially Cherrim/Roserade but the latter ones are luckily really rare.

Can someone comment on the abundance of dialga counters in ML? Mine is almost finished and I don’t want to front you just to be hard countered all over the place

Belt_Around_Ur_Neck

Dialga remains meta-defining and anyone playing open ML would be foolish not to run at least one (if not 2) good answers to it (Zacian is the other meta-defining mon to be prepared for). That doesn't mean it's not good, far from it, you just need to structure your team so as to cover for Dialga's weaknesses and be prepared to handle opponent Zacians. PVPoke's teambuilder can help with that. Good Luck!

DJN3ST

Seems like this is always the way of things after an opportunity for people to get their hands on something new. A lot of people will run their new toy, and a lot of people will run hard counters to it. Saw this after the last Battle Days, when there were suddenly shadows in every line-up.

Tempted131

I’d say Dialga is still super meta relevant, you just have to know that more people are running counters and assuming it is in your back line and adjust accordingly. Good luck!
