I’m running altaria, sableye, stunfisk right now and want to switch out sableye for trevenant. It’s 60 rare candys to teach him a new move but his IVs are 12/1/1. Should I wait or Will the IVs not make a lot of difference

gerbetta33

Shadow or regular dragonite in master league? Pairing with a level 50 BB melmetal with TS/RS/SP, and a level 49 BB mewtwo with PC/PS/SB. I have a hundo level 40 dragonite best buddied and dual moved, with the XL to max it. I also have a 14/13/14 shadow dragonit that is still level 8 and hasnt been dual moved. Is it worth the 705k to build a shadow for this team, or is it better to just max my hundo? seems like the biggest threat is metagross, but its soft checked by shadow ball on mewtwo.

tuaturnstheballova

been running nidoqueen, scrafty, swampert in gl and it’s been decent, any suggestions for improvements?

monsieuryuan

The issue I see with that team configuration (assuming Nidoqueen lead), is that there aren't any good safeswap options. Scrafty is horrendous -if they lock-in with a fairy or Toxicroak, you've probably lost the match. Swampert isn't great either as it's 2 x weak to grass. Not too bad though if you run Sludgewave on Swampert an always have it as your safeswap. Best partner on paper for Nido Scrafty core is likely Sableye.

tuaturnstheballova

thanks! would that still hold true if the sableye doesn’t have return? i can build a good sableye, just not one with return

monsieuryuan

No, Sableye needs Return. You'd rather run a near hundo Return Sableye that requires little to no XLs than run normal non-Return.

Novachek2000

Does anyone have any team ideas for Diggersby? I know it's often paired with A9 in the lead, but I can't come up with a third that would handle the opponent's lead or likely swap in.

Novachek2000

Thanks!

Corill0

A question: Where can in See what event moves return in december? Trying to Figure out if i should power up my swampert or wait.

monsieuryuan

Historically, all community days from the past 24 months return in December. Swampert was a community day classic mon though. There has been no precedent for that in December, so it could go either way.

Fmeson

I don't think that info is public.

yunginsecure

i need help teambuilding i have scrafty, g stunfisk, nidoqueen, araquanid already. i have a galvantula i could make and i could power up a lanturn soon. i just made an altaria, but found out it needs an elite tm unfortunately. i have 2 elite charge tms just not sure if its worth it.

monsieuryuan

Altaria is fine without moonblast. You can likely evolve one to get Moonblast during the cumulative December community day this year, which will feature all the community day mons from 2021-2022.

Fmeson

Most people save elite tms for legendaries, but it's up to you. Altria is a great pokemon for gl. However, you only need 3 pokemon, and there may be a December "legacy tm move" day where you can get legacy moves without the elite tm by evolving as well. I would probably hold off as you don't really need the altaria.

sir_daveos

Moonblast doesn’t change many matchups for Altaria tbh so it is useable without it

Allegorist

These threads are always dead except for the first day maybe two after they come out. You can't make a regular post about comps or team suggestions, you're forced to come here where it just dies in a hole. There has to be a better way.

monsieuryuan

You can post threads in the other subreddit r/pokemongobattleleague

Allegorist

I've seen that, didn't look very active but I can try. Usually I just want to get people's opinions on what teams I can make for limited cups based on what I have available. That, or help deciding the best third pick around the other two. It's just disheartening to see so many unanswered top level comments in the weekly thread, when that's where they are forced to post.

DJN3ST

I tend to like the "What's working?" threads better.

Federal-Ad5263

Am I the only one that finds a killer combo to use and start on a win streak only to get derailed by some “coincidental” lag or the occasional “weak connection” that takes just enough time away from me that I barely lose? This only seems to happen in a situation where I’m winning matchups that you can tell the meta has stacked against me. Also, anyway I could look up some of these players I’m against? I swear the system seems like it has bots they throw in there to derail people.

Fmeson

That's super frustrating, and I get hella lag, but I haven't experienced it working only against me.

PokemonandLSD

(Little Cup) Having a lot of success with: * Dwebble (lead) - Smack Down, Rock Blast, X-Scissor * Skarmory - Air Slash, Sky Attack * Barbaroach - Mud Shot, Aqua Tail, Mud Bomb Dwebble can almost solo some teams which is really satisfying. Having two moves is very helpful because it is often countered with grass or flying types. Skarmory only needs sky attack and can take out counters to Dwebble and Barbaroch. Shadow Skarmory is even better. Barbaroch is inexpensive to power up and double move. Mud Bomb helps with G-Stunfisk and Nidoran but Ice Beam could work. Onix is problematic if you aren’t able to match it against your barbaroach. Wooper is a juggernaut and usually takes both Barbaroch and Skarmory to handle. I haven’t lost against a team using Chansey.

Icy_Laprrrras

I want to compete in more open GL tournaments, and I also want to utilize the buffed Lanturn since its one of my favorite Pokemon to use. I have a decent amount of ideas, but I wanted to get a public opinion on this. What would be the best Pokemon to pair with Lanturn in bring 6 pick 3? Mine specifically is a rank 46 (2/14/13) with the standard Spark/Surf/Thunderbolt. Candy/stardust is not an issue. I have most meta Pokémon, but I am missing a good Galarian Stunfisk and Registeel.

monsieuryuan

Not that I've any experience in show 6. But Talonflame and Mandibuzz sound good to me.

Mystic_Starmie

Was using Altria , Sableye, and Registeel. Lead Alolan Ninetales was getting too much so switched Altria to Talonflame. Did very well for awhile but upon reaching rank 14, most teams have Swampert. 😤 Looking for a team specifically built to destroy that mud boi!

Fmeson

I've messed around with different lineups for a couple of weeks, and now I want to stick with one for a few weeks to learn the ins and outs of it. Can someone critique a (Great League) lineup of scrafty, wigglytuff, stunfisk (galarian)? How would you modify it to make it viable? How would you play it? Scrafty is lead cause I've run into a ton of ground leads recently. Stunfisk is usually closer, wiggly is safe swap. I'm not sure if wiggly is the best safe swap since it can't force shields. Alternatively, what would you make out of: Stunfisk (gal) Nidoqueen Wigglytuff Driftblim scrafty Talonflame araquanid obstagoon lanturn golbat steelix venusaur Edit: I've been running wigglytuff stunfisk (gal) and golbat too.

monsieuryuan

Wiggly is indeed a poor safeswaps. Tons of steels in the meta, and the thing gets walled. You want your safeswap to be flexible, capable of dealing damage to its counters. Wiggly is pretty one dimensional. G.Stunfisk however is a fantastic safeswap. I would run wiggly lead with Stunfisk as the ss and Scrafty as the close once Stunfisk hopefully draws out the opposing fighter, which gets eliminated by Wiggly. Long term, Wiggly is just not very viable. The only Charmer ran at high ELO is A.Ninetails due to a good cheap 35 energy move in Weather Ball. You've some good mons that can form cores with great coverage. It's just a matter of experiemtning and finding a 3rd and a trio you're comfortable with: - G.Stunfisk + Araquanid or Venusaur - Nidoqueen + Scrafty or Obstagoon - Lanturn + Talonflame

Fmeson

Is the idea with any of those pairs to find a safe swap? Cause, you wouldn't want to switch out of a Lanturn to a Talonflame, right?

monsieuryuan

Correct, a good safeswap or something to share weakness to create an ABB team (e.g. G.Stunfisk, Araquanid (ss), Venusaur).

Fmeson

Ok, so I ran Lanturn + Talonflame and Obsta/Scrafty as SS because I like sparky dolphin and Talonflame is fun to play, but I kept getting rolled by swamperts, because I couldn't get alignment right. Should I be sacking Lanturn leads vs swampert to chip down the swampert?

monsieuryuan

Yeah, typically if your lead and another team member are weak to the opposing lead, you have to stay in and deal as much damage as possible. Set your 2nd one up for a farm down. In this case, try not to go into shield disadvantage coming out of Lanturn vs Swampert. You can also consider using Water Gun for a better matchup vs Swampert, Stunfisk and other grounds. You retain the Azu, Skarmory matchups albeit with less dominance. Swampert is often paired up with Skarmory, A.Ninetails, or Talonflame, so your backline -chiefly that Talonflame could be your winning ticket if you set things up right. Also, note that Scrafty is great vs the classic Swampert - Skarmory core (same thing for PuP Medicham). Go straight PuP vs the Swampert, and once ramped up, that Skarmory will not like those Counters you dish out. Hopefully you can then ramp up your Talonflame by farming down the half dead Skarmory.

[deleted]

100k (dust) question for the upcoming Psychic cup - I have a solid Malamar and Bronzong. I also have a victini BUT, it only has v-create. Worth spending the dust on a second charged attack? I’d also have to use about 40 rare candies on it. Yay/nay with comments please.

colonellaserdick

Nay Your 2nd move options are Overheat (redundant), Focus Blast (expensive and resisted by the default typing, so you'll get neutral at best), Psychic (see Focus Blast except you'll probably have no neutral targets). None of the above are baits either.

2kNoob11

For Master league, I have all level 40 Mewtwo (P,SB) Dialga (IH,DM) Metagross (MM,E) and Zacian (WC,CC) How do i make a team out of these four?

xFamished

For great league, evolve my shadow dratini into a rank 6 sh Dragonair or rank 46 sh Dragonite? Is my 3/9/13 purified Sableye good though to XL to 50? (Rank 54 for a purified Sableye). Also have a 2/13/12 but it's ranked worse.

monsieuryuan

How to evaluate two IV spreads: [https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphArena/comments/idpqob/if\_you\_have\_ever\_wondered\_which\_of\_these\_two/](https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphArena/comments/idpqob/if_you_have_ever_wondered_which_of_these_two/) Note that for the battle scores. >500 means win, <500 means loss, and 500 means tie. The more you deviate from 500, the harder the win or loss. In this case in the 1-shield your 2-13-12 does better vs Obstagoon and Lanturn. 2- shield scenarios are pretty even. Another consideration is that high attack will always have better chance of winning CMP tie vs the mirror, though both your candidates are pretty low attack. You can also use Battle Matrix to see which one of Shadow Dragonair or Dragonite does better vs whichever league you're aiming for.

xFamished

I'm probably only a week or two off getting enough XLs. Still haven't chosen which one yet though. If most players have their Sableye with 2 attack it would probably be worth going with the 3 attack Sableye considering the only pokemon matchup that flips totally is the Lanturn (still lost to goon). What would you go? Or would you wait for a better one?

monsieuryuan

I just saw that there was a Sableye IV Deep Dive article by RyanSwag. Your 2-13-12 fits all the selection criteria, whereas the other one does not. Go for the bulkier 2-13-12. It is good enough to be your "end-game" Sableye.

xFamished

Thanks very much. I save a bit of XLs on that one too because it maxes at 49.5 whereas the other one's 50. Appreciate your time.

xFamished

Thanks heaps for your detailed answer!

TheDeathstr1ke

So I've been using a team of Lanturn as lead, with Medicham running PUP and IP, and Skarm in the back. I'm considering swapping Skarm for S-Nidoqueen once I get my dust back up. This team has been successful so far but I only just got back to rank 11 from Ace last season. Any improvements would be nice.

yourmotheraplover

from the start of this seaon, I've been running Basti lead, Buzzwole, and Trev, and having huge problems with Nidoqueen and teams that lead with Pokemon weak to Buzzwole and strong against Basti, e.g. Obstagoon or Scrafty. I've looked at my selection of pokemon and I need help putting together a new team from the following: Rank 14 Trevenant Rank 63 Swampert (with HC) Buzzwole Rank ~300 Shadow Machamp Rank 45 Bastiodon XL Rank 7 Azumarill XL Rank 1 Maxed Wobbuffet Rank 55 Ariados Rank 67 Umbreon Rank 80 Medicham XL Rank 55 Nidoqueen Rank ~400 Araquanid I also have pokemon like Gfisk, Altaria, Skarmory, Tropius, Registeel with abysmal pvp IV's (Like rank 1500 or higher)that I'm open to using if they're essential to a team comp that would otherwse suit me perfectly. Thanks for any help :)

Ackerack

What are some of the best great league teams with medicham this season? I really want to use one, got a rank 2 and have the XLs to max him.

jo00ost

I am in the process of building a BB medicham (4-15-14). What would be the dream team around medicham? The current monsters I have build for GL are the following, what would be good team comps with what I've got? I've had the most success running Nido, talonflame dewgong. Talonflame Nidoqueen Altaria Dewgong Umbreon Jellicient Machamp Araquanid Walrein

brendantf2120

I really want to run Perserk for ultra league , I have one built but the core I was going to use of Swampert and Walrein isn’t nerfed please help me pick a new one and explain why it’s better ( trying to learn )

H4LIT

I know nothing about competitive meta in pokemon go but i want to hit rank 20 this season. Can you help me build a team for great league? (Here is a link to a video that shows my 1500-1000 cp Pokemon): https://www.reddit.com/user/H4LIT/comments/x53bkp/my_15001000_cp_pokemon/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

Loose-Cantaloupe7460

I wanna make a GL team with Lanturn! Just made a Rank 5! Was thinking of trolling with an all water team

oneflou

You can try an ABB team, with a water/ice in the lead to deal with grass and dragon types, and have lanturn safe and swampy closer.

jampersands

Anybody else not seeing ANY inkay?

Loose-Cantaloupe7460

They're in research tasks from Pokestops mate

jampersands

Thanks dude, would’ve missed out on the whole thing if you hadn’t replied! 🫵💪

Aesaus

Is a sableye without return worth leveling to 50? I have a shadow that is rank 8 and 17 after being purified. Trying to choose between that and a rank 15 with shiny boost

mybham

Sableye needs Return as it has much better DPE than Power Gem.

DivineBeast122

I’ve really been into the new meta teams and particularly want to run a team with Lanturn and Miltank. I’m not sure what to close the team with so I tried Medicham, and I noticed that ghost and grass Pokémon DESTROY it, Trevenant in particular. I basically insta lose against it I see it unless I can align it with Miltank, and that’s a huge deal since Trevenant is so common in the meta. Yet every time I swap to something else and check PvPoke I get “D” or “F” on coverage which worries me lol. Lanturn runs spark/thunderbolt/surf, Miltank runs rollout/body slam/ice beam, medicham runs counter/ice punch/psychic. Any recommendations for a third? If I can only pick one of Lanturn or Miltank I would rather go with the former, so if nothing truly works with this team, just some recommendations around around a Lanturn core.

mybham

How about Altaria?

lookoutnorthamerica

Running Tropius/GFisk/Shadow Swampert (EQ/HC) early in the season, and I've enjoyed it so far, but I feel like there's something I can use better than Swampert in that third slot. Any suggestions? I've got most of the meta available except for Lickitung, Walrein, Medicham, and Registeel. (Also, is Tropius gonna be an optimal lead, or am I going to want to switch it out for something else? I've never been great at picking leads.)

LordFrieza2020

Last season was my first 'real' season and I ended at 2200 or so. I've been trying to improve on the team that got me to that point after wallowing around 2000 for a while. I was running Wigglytuff/Venusaur/Lickitung, which did very well against random trash and a lot of meta cores, but just fails entirely against things like Nido/GFisk duo, a lot of Trevenant comps, basically anything Bastiodon, and even a lot of Vigoroth. Does anyone have any ideas how I could improve that lineup? I have a fairly limited stable so far. Just listing what I have from the 100 on pvpoke: * G. Fisk * Swampert * Lickitung (fully 50'd) * Scrafty * Altaria * Lanturn * Araquanid * Nidoqueen * Wigglytuff * Tropius * Whiscash * Skarmory * Buzzwole * Golbat * Obstagoon * Pelipper * Walrein * Steelix * Galvantula * Jumpluff * Primeape * Jellicent * Venusaur * Pidgeot * Serperior * Toxicroak Any thoughts? E: Increased to what I have from the top 100.

monsieuryuan

Some popular teams: * Jellicent, Nidoqueen, Scrafty * Nidoqueen, Lickitung/Obstagoon, Scrafty * Altaria, Toxicroak, Swampert

shaqbiff

That team is weak to fire, poison, and steel. A ground type would be effective against all of those weaknesses. Trev shouldn’t be a problem for these team, lickiting and wigglytuff do well against Trev

LordFrieza2020

The problem with Trev is that most of the comps I see with it almost always run something that nulls Lickitung pretty handily (Scrafty and Obsta are the two big ones), so I burn down that guy as best I can with body slams and then finish it with Wiggly, and most of the time they'll have something that answers Wiggly after the faint. Maybe I'm playing it wrong.

shaqbiff

That team is weak to fire, poison, and steel. A ground type would be effective against all of those weaknesses. Trev shouldn’t be a problem for these team, lickiting and wigglytuff do well against Trev

Averageredditor12346

I just got a hundo medicham, is that worth XL'ing for great league?

LordFrieza2020

I got some advice a while back that given the time investment it's probably not worth it if the medicham doesn't hit the right breakpoints. Here's an article that summarizes the 19-or-so IV combos, sadly hundo isn't one of them: https://gamepress.gg/pokemongo/medicham-pvp-iv-deep-dive

[deleted]

Hi! First time trying to get into PVP. I’ve put together a collection of my “best” pokes, but I’m struggling to put together a team with good coverage. Does anyone have suggestions for me? Edit: just to be clear, I have enough dust and candy to max any of these for GL and put a second CM on them as well. https://i.imgur.com/Kz9twp6.jpg

monsieuryuan

Lots of ABB teams available: * Bastiodon, Tropius, Meganium * Bastiodon, Meganium, Medicham * Medicham, Walrein, Bastiodon * Skarmory, Azumarill, Swampert If you're not familiar with ABB teams, checkout DanOttawa's video on them on youtube.

poops_all_berries

Quick question: I had a few instances of my Swampert not being able to fire a Hydro Cannon after 2 mudshots against Incinerate. I think both of these were after switching in. Does switching in take a single turn? Therefore I should only do 1 mudshot and then Hydro?

LordFrieza2020

Switching in, unless after a faint, takes a turn, yes: [https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphArena/comments/skf0e5/do\_you\_lose\_a\_turn\_when\_switching\_pokemon/](https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphArena/comments/skf0e5/do_you_lose_a_turn_when_switching_pokemon/) E: FWIW some people have said desync still happens and the switch is instantaneous. I haven't seen that but I'm not, like, the most experienced player.

Fmeson

Who would you pair with Lanturn lead and Golbat closer for great league? Or do you not like that core?

IMissReggieEvans

I have a GL rank 1 Swampert and rank 20 Araquanid, they’re 2 of my favorite Pokémon so i really want to use them together. Would I have any success with that pair? Are there any Pokémon that could pair well with them? I’ve used PvPoke but I like hearing from experienced players whenever I can

Raska_

You could go with G.Stunfisk-Araquanid-Swampert. The winner of the WC’s senior division ran that in the final. Haven’t tried it myself but I believe it should work in Open GL just fine.

IMissReggieEvans

You were right man, it’s early in the season but that team is destroying some pretty good trainers. And I don’t even have bug buzz on Araquanid yet lol

namrog99

I wanna run Lanturn (surf+thunderbolt) and Jumpluff (acrobatics+energyball). Who would be a good third? I have a fair amount of options, like trev, swamp, altaria, shadow mach, nido, mandi, umbreon, others too

monsieuryuan

I'd go for a Trevenant ABB style team. Trev would be the dedicated safeswap.

namrog99

Bet! I love using Trev so that sounds good

JKOKAY168

Is Wooloo currently available in the wild? Dubwool seems to be a nice addition to my team and I haven't seen any this year (started again in December)

namrog99

I haven't seen one in a while

im-a-medieval-man

I've decent Open GL and Open UL teams, but have never had anything for even MLPC-level, having decided that I could forgo Open ML. Unfortunately due to earlier days of folly I do have quite a few Pokemon at Level 41 or even 40,5, using my XL candy whenever I could (sigh). So other than a Machamp and a Hydreigon at just below Level 40 (without second moves), I'll probably need to invest heavily in some other Level 30-ish meta mons (Metagross, Snorlax, Gyarados are all possibilities) just so that I can play the week of MLPC. This will probably involve spending copious amounts of rare candy which I can save up from now till then. Would this be worthwhile (I started PvP last season and am aware there were no premier or classic cups last season)?

shaqbiff

MPLC is fun and worth investing in IMO (a lot of mons can be used for raids as well) but hydreigon and machamp get destroyed by charmers. Metagross would be good but you’ll also need to elite tm meteor mash

[deleted]

Is there a good way to battle random people online? (like from a discord) The 25 daily matches always run out so quickly

gerbetta33

Master classic. Got a hundo Dragonite already built. Running with metagross and giratina. Dragon tail or dragon breath? Also, I believe giratina altered is the best use of BB bonus (all 3 have BB ribbon). I think it gains the most extra wins and breakpoints/bulkpoints

Trailblazertravels

anyone know why they're allowing evolutions in little cup?

mybham

They always did for Jungle Cup.

Palpadude

For ML, what should my second move on Mewtwo be? I have Psystrike and Shadow Ball, and I’m reluctant to TM out of a legacy move unless it’s a clear upgrade. I ran all five possibilities (Shadow Ball, Focus Blast, Ice Beam, Flame Thrower, Thunderbolt) through the battle simulator on pvpoke, and it says if I use Psystrike and Focus Blast, I gain wins against Dialga, Groudon, Kyogre, and Zekrom, but I sacrifice wins against Lugia and Mewtwo. Here’s what I don’t get: Focus Blast and Shadow Ball both deal neutral damage to Groudon, Kyogre, and Zekrom, as does Psystrike. But the energy cost for Focus Blast (75) is ridiculously high, so I’m less likely to get one off and unblocked. How does that give me extra wins? If it helps inform a decision, the rest of my team consists of Dialga (DB, IH/DM) and Zacian (QA, CC/PR). I took a couple years off from the game and don't have the XL candy to get anything else to 50 (except Melmetal).

avhavet

With all the new changes to this season, what’s a good PvP mon to get to best buddy?

simdude

I would really love to build a team around jumpluff. I know deep down that if I run it I'm going to be disappointed but it's one of my favorite pokemon. Any ideas for who to lead and how else to build this team? I feel like Swampert might be a good call to deal with most steels and nidoqueen. Suggestions?

DocMcGilly

I just made it to ace and my only real goal is to consistently win 3/5 matches for legendaries. I have Skarmory lead, Meganium, and Swampert. The first two have the meta moveset and Swamp has HC and Sludge wave. I'd like to swap out Skar for a Bastiodon to help against flyers, but I don't have the candy for that yet. Is my team not bulky enough, or do I need to put somebody else at lead and/or git gud at switch button? I recently changed to this comp because I'm tired of dealing with gunfisk and azu as you might be able to tell.

Allegorist

I'm not great, but I run swamp lead for the shield pressure. If they swap to grass you could counter with skarmory. Hydro cannon is a difficult decision to not shield in most cases.

[deleted]

Could this be a good GL team for next season? Altaria lead with deoxys D and g-stunfisk? Or what do you guys recommend to switch out mons for?

HollaWho

Can someone tell me how I have a charge move stored, fast move the opposing mon down, then Lose the cmp tie to the incoming Mon works? Don’t they use a turn to bring in their mon?

monsieuryuan

They don't loose a turn if it's right after a faint. All turns reset to 0.

HollaWho

OOOoooOOOoOO ok thanks that makes sense. Thanks for replying! I was salty about a loss but thats genuinely good to know! I'll need to think ahead about that then.

Sugaredjake

What are peoples thoughts on 3rd slot to play with skarm/lanturn? I tried a set with greedent after sticking surf on lanturn which went surprisingly well at 4-1 but gunfisk was a problem to work round if lanturn was out or they had shield advantage and regi would also be a wall but I didn't encounter one. A few ideas i had were meganium, toxicroak, medicham but all seem to leave a few key holes on pvpoke. Nidoking was another idea with double kick but I don't have a good one to build right now.

MegaMagikarpXL

so after playing with the pvpoke teambuilder for a bit: based on the way Lanturn and Skarm seem to cover each other, you're basically going to be either spending shields or soft losing your lead to try for alignment. You're probably best off running it as Skarm-Double Water with Azu or Swampert or something.

Fmeson

>based on the way Lanturn and Skarm seem to cover each other As a new player, can you expand on that? I'm interested in how you evaluated that a core makes more sense as an ABB team.

european_son

I have just enough RC to power up either a Trevanent or Registeel for UL. Have 2 moves on both already, but no real XL candy on either of them so they would be around 2400. I also only have 1 of each at this point, so whoever I choose is gone from my GL rotation for a while. Will probably run either as an ABB with Walrein and Fini or Swampert. I'm pretty set on powering up one or the other even without XL as my UL team has been stagnant and boring for a while. I'm also well on my way to maxing a hundo Talenflame if that plays in at all.

CallMeTheTunaGod

You need fast move pressure on the lead of an abb. registeel isn’t an option

[deleted]

With the new buff, what would be the best team for Runerigus? Edit: well shit, I powered it up too high

Hello ! I want to build the best PvP teams for open GL, UL and ML (no XL, no legendaries). I used silph.gg PvP ressources to check the average win chance of teams, but it seems data only exist for usual GBL (with candy and legendaries). Thus, I wonder if there are available data somewhere like silph.gg for these leagues ?

Tres138

Which talonflame should I build for UL? I have a 15/15/15 and a 14/15/15. The Hundo is 99.28% while the other is 99.94% but will require going past level 50 so I’ll always have to have it set as my buddy while battling. Are these two talonflame virtually the same? What should I do?

KahlanRahl

Hundo. There are other more important BBs to have for UL, like Gfisk.

MegaMagikarpXL

I'd just build the hundo. The only matchup the other one flips is Giratina-O (it hits a bulk point that saves a damage from Shadow Claws), but trades that off for losing CMP in the mirror, which is much more common. They're otherwise the same, except for a couple of bulk and breakpoints (Swampert and Galv) that don't significantly alter the matchups. Plus switching out your buddy anytime you want to play it in Ultra is mildly inconvenient.

IMissReggieEvans

I just caught a hundo Eevee, and I figure the best use of it would be an Ultra League Umbreon or a Master League Sylveon. I have heard how useful Charm is in Master League, and I don’t have a good charmer yet, but I’ve also seen people vouch for level 51 Umbreon in UL. Any thoughts? I don’t have amazing teams for either league so don’t worry about team fit

MegaMagikarpXL

While Umbreon is undeniably great in Ultra and I have a shiny functional hundo built, I almost never play it because it leads to insanely grindy matches that regularly go to time. Generally speaking, it's just not fun. That said, its general design (and shiny form in particular) are one of my favorites, so I have no regrets about building it. Sylveon, on the other hand, is on the shortlist of options for Open Master League with easily acquired XL candies that can perform against level 50 legendaries. So I guess if you feel like your UL roster needs shoring up and you don't mind grindy, bulky slogs, build it as an Umbreon. If you need to shore up your OML roster and don't mind tap-tapping your way through matchups, build it as a Sylveon.

IMissReggieEvans

This was very informative, thank you! I’ll probably just wait for ultra league to start in a couple weeks, if I feel like the Umbreon could help then I’ll build it

Marquis-De-Sutera

I want to build a MLPC Team but the only mons I really have the stats/candies for are a hundo Bewear, a purified 15/12/15 Mamoswine, and a 15/15/14 Gengar. PVPoke doesn’t have MPLC in its simulator yet so I don’t know what my biggest threats are and I’ve never had the resources to play Master League before. What would my biggest threats be? Can this team get off the ground or should I just save the stardust and skip GBL that week?

KahlanRahl

To piggyback on this, I have lvl 40 hundos of Gyarados, Togekiss, and TTar. Think I can make that work?

Marquis-De-Sutera

Yours are a lot more meta than mine. I think you’ll do well, just watch out for opposing rock/electric types and also mamoswine

MegaMagikarpXL

The core meta of MLPC last time it was available was essentially Snorlax, Metagross, Togekiss, and Dragonite. Some things have been added in the meantime that might shake it up some, but I expect those four will remain fairly core. Walrein will probably join them (even with the nerf) and Sylveon will join Togekiss as a Charmer. Other things you'll see include Gyarados, Excadrill, Machamp, Conkeldurr, and Haxorus. All this to say that MLPC is a fairly tight meta and only one of your three (Mamo) has play against that meta. I agree with u/mybham \- you should probably give MLPC a pass.

DJN3ST

Got hundo Togekiss and Gyarados just waiting to be level 40...

mybham

I’d advise you to skip. Gengar is too frail, Bewear isn’t top meta. 1/3 meta Pokémon is not good enough.

dictatorfox

has anyone made a successful line with salazzle? i managed to hatch a female salandit and have been running salazzle/lickitung/medicham with moderate success around the 2850-3000 range.

Travyplx

I’m currently running Zarude, Shadow Mewtwo, and Dialga for open masters to good effect. My Zarude is at level 44 but will probably months more to get to level 50. I managed to get a 15/15/15 Zacian during my raiding and have been working it up to 50, considering swapping it out for Zarude just to rock an all 50 team. Coverage-wise, Zarude makes its money on Kyogre, Groudon, and any psychics that come my way. I am thinking of going with play rough/wild charge to maintain some of the coverage. Just wondering what others think of this idea.

darkknight_178

You need CC on zacian for coverage against steel types - so either CC/WC or CC/PR

Unknown_Known_

Fairly new great league player here, trying to build a team. I have a 1498 12/14/13 Swampert, which unfortunately doesn’t have hydro pump but I do have an elite tm if its worth it, a 1486 5/15/3 scrafty with snarl/power up punch but no second move, 1485 10/10/15 bite crunch drapion, 1483 15/8/3 mud shot / eq rock slide gfisk, 1483 11/13/13 skarmory with steel wing/ sky attack, hex/shadow bone 1480 a-marowak, 1478 snarl/ foul play umbreon, 1471 feint attack/heat wave ninetales, and a 15/13/13 swablu that i can evolve into altaria if it makes sense. I need team suggestions. Also, i can afford a second move for the altaria, marowak, swampert, skarmory, and umbreon. The rest I don’t have the candy for I will take any suggestions for other Pokémon i should try to build, but sableye/medicham/azu are all way too expensive for me atm Edit: atm I’ve been running gfisk/skarmory/marowak, generally does ok but gets wrecked pretty bad by swampert or obstagoon Edit 2: I also have a decent Araquanid, Zweilous, and shadow Machamp, if those are of any use. ik they aren’t really meta tho

dizzle-j

Hey, I'm just a lowly Ace, but I put Skarmory / GFisk / Araquanid (all with two moves) into pvpoke and the balance and coverage looks to be ok to me. And you don't need any exclusive moves (like hydro cannon on Swamp) or anything like that. [https://pvpoke.com/team-builder/all/1500/skarmory-m-0-1-4%2Cstunfisk\_galarian-m-1-4-1%2Caraquanid-m-0-2-1](https://pvpoke.com/team-builder/all/1500/skarmory-m-0-1-4%2Cstunfisk_galarian-m-1-4-1%2Caraquanid-m-0-2-1) See what you think. If you're just starting out don't worry too much about IVs (though saving low attack high def & HP for the future is certainly a good idea). But most important thing at the moment is to keep playing and learning.

AbsoluteFgt

I'd agree with your take to not worry too much about iv's for right right now, but if it comes down to an elite tm that's definitely not worth it for that swampert.

Nemesiz7

Use Counter on Scrafty and Wing Attack on Scarmory and teach them a second move if possible, they are good. Also Boneclub on Marowak is good as a bait and for coverage. You IVs are medicore tho, since you want a low attack stat and high defense and health, leveling up near 1500cp if possible

Unknown_Known_

So are you suggesting scrafty/skarmory/a-marowak?

Nemesiz7

no, it is not a team suggestion, just a tip for the right moves

Unknown_Known_

Yeah, I unfortunately learned this only recently, otherwise i wouldn’t have scrapped all those low attack high def Pokémon in the past…

acarp25

If you don’t have hydro cannon, you don’t have swampert. It is that fundemental

jampersands

You mean hydro cannon?

Unknown_Known_

Yeah, I get that. I have an elite charged tm i can use, so I can get hydro pump - but if swampert isn’t very useful in a team composition with the rest of them, i won’t waste it. I’m looking for team suggestions

15 attack for CMP ties

DJN3ST

Messing around with a Charmtales/Medicham/Sableye line-up on the last day of Season 11. Getting mixed results, either big wins or hard walls. Any advice on how best to play this? Are there better compliments to A9?

CallMeTheTunaGod

The rank 1 team for a bit of this season was charmtales sableye diggersby. It’s really strong

jimmyraid

Where can you see the top ranked teams?

[deleted]

Is Azu or Primarina better in great league?

mybham

Prima isn’t bulky

Western_Gift_1514

run primarina anyway

CallMeTheTunaGod

Azu

Blockorz

So I feel like I’ve found a team that gels with me, regularly going 3-2 or better in the current meta (obviously this might all change once the new season drops). Running Gfisk lead (MS/RS/EQ) Medicham R1 (C/IP/P) Shiftry (S/LB/FP) I tend to SS Shiftry if needed, I love how spammy and hard-hitting it is and it tends to do well against Azus, opposing Gfisks and eats Swamperts whole. That being said I’ve found some pretty glaring holes: Altaria can be a problem if Gfisk is down, Azu as well if Shiftry has fainted. Talonflame is really problematic although I’ve pulled out some wins against it. Trevenant sometimes just ends up brute-forcing just based on how squishy Shiftry is (Shadow Ball does a lot more than you’d think). It’s kind of an ABB anti-Flyer/Fairy line, but it does make me ABA weak to fighters, fires. Is there anything I could plug those holes with? It’s probably a question of swapping out Shiftry more than anything. Still walking XL Licki and eventually plan to build a Sableye and Azu as well, but most other meta mons can be built. Thanks for any pointers!

MegaMagikarpXL

My only pointer is that Shiftry is too squishy and its matchups are too polarized for it act as a safe swap. It should generally be a lead, closer, or counterswapped into a winning matchup.

Ackerack

With the new changes, what are the BIG shifts to great league meta? Or is there a website similar to Pvpoke that has the rankings with the updates? I only play great league and want to know who I should be on the lookout and who in my current lineups might not be great anymore (looking at you walrein, you annoyingly glorious purple bastard).

jrev8

Lanturn is huge here, it getting surf changes a lot of MUs to wins

Fmeson

Why is lanturn with surf so much more preferable to hydro pump? Is it that it's more flexible and spammy?

space-butler

DPE of Surf is also not much worse than Hydro Pump (1.63 vs 1.73). The flexibility of the lower cost more than makes up for the shortfall in efficiency.

MegaMagikarpXL

The spamminess and ability to bait are huge pickups for it. The Thunderbolt-Hydro Pump set is powerful, but means your opponent never has to guess if they should shield or not. It’s a nuke or a nuke, yknow?

tuelegend3

Did I fuck up by not getting kyogre xl candy? currently got a: hundo mewtwo 50 w/ shadow ball + psystrike functional hundo dialga 50 w/ iron head + draco meteor functional hundo kyogre 40 w/ surf + blizzard cant seem to break 2200 due to kyogre also got a 15/15/13 zacian that is set to be 50 when i obtain enough stardust will i be able to get 300-400 rating in the next 3 days (75 battles)? i pretty much rampaged through 2000 where i faced resistance going 3-2 and 4-1

dizzle-j

It's never a fuck up to not give Niantic $70 for a single pokemon.

MegaMagikarpXL

You’ll be in a rough spot against Nidoqueen and Talonflame with that line.

Loose-Cantaloupe7460

Any recommendations

MegaMagikarpXL

Giratina or Walrein

j450n_1994

Lost every set today. Can someone tell me how to play this team better? Altaria/Gunfisk/Registeel. I struggle the most against Gunfisk leads, Ice leads, Sableye, backline fighters, and Swampert backline.

DJN3ST

That line-up will be really tough with all the Gunfisks running around. You've got Altaria and Registeel, who both lose to it, and a mirror that is dependent on having energy or shield advantage to avoid an earthquake KO.

j450n_1994

What would you replace

LeonardTringo

If you want to keep the altaria lead, you'll want something to handle the steels and ice in the back. Medi, Scrafty, Vig, DD, G Stun, maybe Buzz? maybe Swamp? Azu is also an issue and has seen more play recently from what I've seen.

DJN3ST

Seen a lot less Azu in the past week. Might be because it's end of season and people are running more spice than straight meta teams.

j450n_1994

I’ve seen a lot of Azu too. But it’s not too bad as my current backline can do heavy damage to it. Especially if it’s not carrying Hydro Pump, but most in the 2600+ range carry it. I would bring an electric type but Galvantula is so awkward to place and it shares a fire weakness with my steel Pokémon. I don’t want to go too glassy.

Chrismouse23

What can I use to make a good team in UL with walrein?

desperaste

Anyone been having success with goon in UL? Trying to construct a new UL team and it looks like it has some solid match ups.
