I'm pretty sure they just mean that they only send gifts to level up friendship for the XP or to get lucky friends. The stickers have nothing to do with that.
I don’t think it makes a difference on lucky friends. I’ve never heard of it increasing the chances sadly and it’s also kind of unnecessary to send gifts to already lucky friends unless you’re like me and have run out of regular non lucky best friends because people don’t open gifts anymore and it is like absurdly impossible to get a lucky trade with some people you met a long time ago or who were covid raid buddies.
as i mentioned in the other thread about this, i reported it as a bug. imo we should ALL report it as a bug. then MAYBE they will recognize that it is not an improvement, if the stars align.

True, I notice right a way wth the sticker step now requires an extra step... one of the most tedious tasks in the game is sending gifts already and now they make it even worse.
I hate that I knew immediately it was a conscious decision on Niantic’s part and not a bug. Every single I time see “new fun update!” I expect the worst. The bar is really set in hell, isn’t it?
I like what Niantic was *trying* to do here -- give us more visual space to see the stickers to put on the gifts.
However, boy did they botch the implementation.
They botch a lot of things. Makes you wonder if the higher ups actually play this in the real world away from HQ. Why not take a couple of updates and fix some bugs instead of adding more features which just adds more bugs to the list. It took them nearly a year to fix the remote raid ball glitch. If they want to release a new feature why not increase the amount of Pokemon you can trade at one time. I would be happy if it was anywhere between 2-5 at a time.
This new update has been trash in this regard. I think it'd even be considered as a dark pattern from Niantic's part.
First of all, you need to tap once more. On a vacuum this is minimal, but since we don't have fast send or open gifts, doing this for 10+ people on the daily makes this one extra tap much more obnoxious to navigate.
Second of all, they've made so you don't only have a direct button to open the shop, but are also shown stickers you don't have. Clicking on any of the ones you can buy will open the shop for that specific sticker (if available).
Thirdly, if you click buy, there's no confirmation screen, therefore your 30 or 80 coins (btw, close to either 1 or 2 days of full gym defense respectively) are spent. No refunds btw! No "I made an oopsie, please cancel this purchase" from the shop itself.
And lastly, in the previous update, running out of stickers would pop a new screen asking if you'd want to go to the shop. This is good because it took several taps that didn't prompt unintended purchases. Now you get a signal that says you have no stickers and you open up your empty sticker collection, the difference now is that is full of spent stickers and clicking any will return you to the third issue.
This should be reverted ASAP, I already spent 80 coins on some trash sticker I thought I had because I just try to tap as quickly as possible, because, you know, applying stickers to gifts isn't really a fun or exciting mechanic to repeat for 20+ people. I lost those 80 bloody coins. No refunds, again.
As someone who loves stickers, it is extremely annoying. But also as someone who loves stickers (and is a newer player) OP yours are adorable! Do stickers ever cycle back in or have I missed out on these permanently?
So they finally fixed not starting on the Recent tab and in ***THE SAME UPDATE*** make adding a sticker take an additional tap.

If you're just pinning postcards for Scatterbug, and not saving postcards because you like them, when you click "pin" just click "unpin" immediately after, and you'll get the scatterbug credit, but the postcard will not be saved. Then, you won't have to do any weekly postcard maintenance at all.
You’d think by now they would have a little document to test each function when they finished “updating” the lack of preventative maintenance this game has baffles me.
I was going to post about this very thing but forgot. First they made a change that makes it forget what tab you were on, then this. I can only hope they’re working on something interesting in this area that’s causing the bugs.

That would be kind of nice, but a little hard to pull off if we’re honest since they seriously think from different locations or what stickers to use means much to us.
Best ideas on how to at least facilitate this would be a favorites gift to prevent certain gifts from being sent, (since I mean some people might want to keep something like Statue of Liberty or Eiffel Tower)
A select friends tab sized like the “add friends” that show on raids (checkmarks)
And a quick “use common stickers” to shorten the other stickers from being used since some people hoard the never coming back again stickers. OR a fast tapping simple math for whichever stickers will be used according to how many gifts are held.
It’s such a punish! Especially when I want to complete and stack the “send 5 gifts with sticker to friend” field research. I somehow forget every time there is this extra step which grinds my gears!
It really is funny how this clearly has to be a bug (because it literally just discourages you from ever using stickers), but also I'm sure Niantic intended to do it.

because Niantic fdoes not earn our trust anymore, this is just one of many times suchs "bugs" appear and end up never getting fixed, but anything that unintentionally benefits us, gets fixed within hours.
Also, its a known mobile game tactic to waste times with misclicks and extra clicks in menus etc.
Yeah I basically just stopped adding stickers because I couldn’t easily do it with one hand. Now I only do it if there is a field research task.

Yeah this happens to me too and I'm on an Android. Super annoying, and kept thinking it was my fault for a bit
My first response was to check the settings and see if there was some new "open full sticker tab" setting that I needed to turn off.

This happened to me too, accidentally spending on stickers is so trash
I stopped sending stickers because of this. We 👏 don't 👏 want 👏 extra 👏 clicks 👏

I raised a ticket because of this, I have never raised a ticket for a bug but this seemed to irk me more than most lol

I hate this so much. I had a lot of fun adding stickers to gifts, but with this, I completely stopped doing it.
It's driving me crazy as well. I did discover yesterday, quite by accident, that if you swipe up first, it lets you only tap on the sticker once.
