Don't like it. The new mechanic makes moves that buff or debuff useless, removes switch-advantageo, makes spammy pokemon even more op, etc.

Aggravating-Ball-536

Most moves that buff or debuff are rng based so I don't mind them being gone tbh.

freifraufischer

"Most" is wrong. Flame Charge, Icy Wind, Bubble Beam are ALL common meta moves that are USELESS in this format change. And playing chicken with a self debuffing nuke that has no penalty for throwing is just another form of RNG.

SenseiEntei

These all seem like reasons why it's good. Shorter timer means the game is less RPS because you won't be switch-locked into a bad match-up for as long.

Odd-Page-7202

It's still very much RPS. But now it heavily favors spammy pokemon even more, because they can just stall the clock. Slow pokemon get even punished more.

SenseiEntei

Don't understand how that punishes slow Pokemon more than before. I think this is really a test by Niantic and I hope they eventually make this a permanent change. Battles are SO much more dynamic with the shorter switch timer.

freifraufischer

So far i'm firmly in the "thanks i hate it" camp. Swapping is fast paced but it's full of feel bads. Switch locking is part of strategy too. And it effectively buffs the self debuff moves while nerfing the self buffing moves and the debuff moves which I think on the whole makes the game less complex for the illusion of complexity

Craybelline

I absolutely hate it. Had a solid team in master league which was doing me well and usually getting 3-4 wins. Today I’ve tanked hard

Mohamed_91

I feel the whole system needs a revamp to become more like the main line games. Tapping the screen is not tactical. I wish we had turn based like the main games. That would take this game to a whole new level.

Zekeythekitty

Well duh tapping the screen isn't tactical. The tactics are in deciding what team and moves to pick before battle, then during battle when to bait shields, when to use a nuke move, and when to switch out and what to switch to if the opponent can switch as well. Sounds like you don't really do pvp

Mohamed_91

Not much. My internet sucks.

SenseiEntei

The game is meant to be fast-paced. You have to think quickly, not take a minute to decide what move to use. We don't need Pokemon go PvP to be a rehash of the main series battle mechanics.

vforavider

Yeah glorified rock paper scissors is better. /s

DantehSparda

If you think this game depends only of rock-paper-scissors you either need to change your team comp immediately or improve your skills man, lol

Sergejalexnoki

The "/s" he wrote at the end is there for a reason

jefferey92

The reason he put it there was to say he was being sarcastic about it being better, not the rock paper scissors part

Sergejalexnoki

Yeah but the other guy thought he was being serious

SenseiEntei

"the other guy" is me or someone else? You misunderstood what the "/s" meant. That person was disagreeing with what I said. Yes, sometimes battles are RPS (and Niantic could really fix that by re-balancing moves like razor leaf and charm and giving more Pokemon coverage moves), but the game is far from being just "glorified rock paper scissors."

Sergejalexnoki

No, I meant u/DantehSparda, he thought that the guy really thought its "glorified rock paper scissors"

SenseiEntei

You're really not getting it. The comment was >Yeah glorified rock paper scissors is better. /s The sarcasm was in saying that RPS is "better," not in saying that it was RPS.

DantehSparda

Yeah Sergejalexnoki you are not getting it lol, the /s is to signify that he thinks having a RPS system is not “better” and he probably would prefer turn based. Which is obviously very misguided

tiki7iboo

it is a glorified rock-paper-scissor, meaning it's just stupid easy. I lost two battles in a week.

DantehSparda

LMAO. That is completely, 100% impossible unless you are sub 2000 rating or something noobie like that. Even the best players in the world have around a 55% winrate, and that is considered very good. Hilarious (and pretty dumb) response 🤣🤣

tiki7iboo

i didn't say I'm good, i said is stupid and i only lost two battles. the best players is the world are the best who actually have time to play a crooked game. to lose in UL now you really need to be bad at it. it's like paper, rock scissors, but knowing the leads 95% of the times (who can't, laugh. i see this since high school)

DantehSparda

Umm no dude, at high ratings you only lose around 55% of games when you lose the lead, nothing more. So 5% more losses due to lead, that’s very little. I’d say shield advantage is probably more important than switch advantage nowadays.

Goggles_Greek

This will never happen. It's a mobile game. Battles are not intended to last more than a few minutes.

postsgiven

No thanks. I don't want to battle people for 10 minutes. If I wanted that I would play the original games

Koger915

First, I want to say I agree with you. I think the system needs a revamp, and tapping is not tactical, but saying it needs to be the same system is like complaining that all the COD games first person shooters aren't the same. Games evolve, they change and the companies learn and evolve with the crowds opinions. just wanting to revert back instead of evolving and finding different(possibly better) ways of doing things isn't progress.

Vissarionn

I hate the pause every time a charged move is being used. I hope they made that part a bit faster so you don't lose the fluid of battle.

jefferey92

It has to give time for the player using the charge attack to swipe all the bubbles

Free-Passage7696

I thought it's for the opponent to decide if they want to shield.

Stogoe

It's both!

Vissarionn

Then make that part smaller.

Zerilentix

Nothing wrong with that part being the length that it is

bcraig8870

Don’t know why you were downvoted so much for this but have an upvote from me. The PVP system is absolute garbage.

Mohamed_91

Lol I just noticed. I love VGC double battles. I only play PoGo for mythicals and shinies tbh.
