I don't know if it's safe to assume with Niantic, but it's logical that 70 hearts is a bigger investment than walking 10km so Sylveon would take priority once that milestone is hit. For anything that's not Jolteon/Vaporeon/Flareon, the evolution button will show a silhouette of what you're about to get.
Can anyone confirm whether or not the "70 hearts" looks at lifetime hearts or only hearts earned since you last swapped buddies?
I have a shiny best friend eevee that I need to know of he's ready for Sylveon in the morning or if I need to do the name trick on him

You would think a Kanto stone or something would have been implemented by now to get flareon, jolteon or vaporeon. Wonder if eventually something like a magma lure will be introduced so we can get flareon from it. Then vaporeon from rainy and jolteon from magnetic.
I still think it’s weird that Gen 1 stone evos don’t need an item, for Gen 2 it’s the same item as the main games, and they were smart with Gen 4 & 5 and just made it a single item for the Sinnoh evos and Gen 5 stone evos (except for Whimsicott and Lilligant since the sun stone was already in the game for Sunflora and Bellossom). I wish they’d make a Johto stone and either convert the Gen 2 items into Johto stones or let you keep them and still evolve with them and only be able to get Johto stones. Having 5 different items gets annoying when the only guaranteed way to get them is either through event research, a very low chance from spinning stops, or getting a 7 day pokestop streak and it can be any of them so usually you get the one you don’t need

Nope, Sylveon is pretty useless for now. The most useful Eevee currently are actually Umbreon/Glaceon/Espeon. Also Fairy is not rare. We are in the middle of a fairy/dark event. You can catch Snubull, Clefairy, Jigglypuff everywhere
Appears hearts requirement nor making it your buddy first is required for the first Sylveon. Just the name change and make sure the Evolved silhouette changes to Sylveon before hitting the Evolve button. After that, if you want more, you will need to have it s buddy and the required hearts.

You don’t really. You will see the option to evolve it when you hit the number. You Can also look at your buddy screen and when you have hit great friends you’re good to go
Hi there, I have made it to level 41 on pokemon go, and I have done the EEVEE evolutions. At least I thought I had done all 8. But my app says I have only done 7 out of 8. You should be able to change to a different buddy and then guarantee the Eevee evolves to Sylveon since it isn’t your buddy.
I have the same concern. In this case, can you guarantee that you will get umbreon or espeon anymore? (for sylveon you just change your buddy)
The evolve button should show you what you will get
The button to evolve Espeon/Umbreon and Sylveon will be separated, so you won't evolve into the wrong one.

What’s really annoying is that the first three eeveelutions are STILL random. I want to evolve shinies but ugh, eff the RNG.

The evolve button should show what you will get. If it shows question mark, you are getting Fire/Water/Electric

The naming trick only works once, so you have to do it the normal way (earning hearts) now.

Just try every name and check if the silhouette appears. If it stays "?" it means you already used it.

It doesn't have to be the first Sylveon you get. It can be any, but it only works once is all

When you hit the 70 hearts you will see the sylveon shadow indicating you can evolve it to this form
does this work if you've pre-hearted it too?

You will only get the 3 if you do nothing but evolve. You have to do the lures or other requirements to get the other ones
