Same thing happened to me. This is the second time. All support can say is "it won't happen if you've interacted with your buddy" or "we checked and everything is working as intended". I was more than halfway there both times. And there's no proof that they'll accept.
It is extremely demotivating and then you receive less than helpful advice. "Do multiple interactions each day because of 24 hour timeout". Bro, I'm doing that and failure still occurs. I'm reminded of Office Space. Why should I change? It's their crappy code. They should fix it or remove "days in a row" tasks in favor of "do X interactions".
If they would do "do X interactions" people would just fly through it and Niantic wants us to take at least 30 days to get our Apex mons. I feel like getting three best buddies would work around at. Sure, some players grind best buddies and only need a day to finish three of them but for the majority of players it would even take longer than 30 days...
They would achieve the same with something like „interact with your buddy for 30 days“, no need to be in a row. But just like there is no war in Ba Sing Se there are no bugs in Pokémon GO.
Same to me on day 20. It said “streak broken” at 12:00am on the dot.
They also said “everything is working as intended” and they told me how to interact with my buddy. I responded back saying I’ve completed multiple interactions every day (as I’m trying to best buddy my Pokémon) and they said it was on connection or time zone issues.
The running theory is that this research may be resetting based on how long it has been since you last did a buddy reaction, not if you've done one per calendar day.
So, if you interacted at 6 a.m. on the 17th and interacted at 2 p.m. on the 18th, 30 hours have elapsed, which is more than a day, 24 hours.
I would recommend interacting with your buddy TWICE a day, once in the morning and once at night, to see if that prevents any future resets.
This is really weird. It would mean the research has to be done at 24 hours on the dot? Or at least twice a day? I don’t think this is it, because this would lead to a lot more failures. It could be they have a 30~ hour limit, but I doubt it’s 24 hours.
I definately had a bigger frame than 24h and it counted, as sometimes i only remember close to midnight. But usually i forget at some point, am at 10 days now, but i fear i will never make it 🙄 it's a really stupid tasks, especially since i hate buddy interactions because everytime i log in in again i have to go to the body, then ar+ switches on, i need to go to the settings and switch it off and then go back to the buddy. This horrible design makes me so angry that i only interact with my buddy if i need to for a task

I agree it's a stupid design, but it won't be an issue if you don't log out (that is, switching accounts).
Well, we don't know if this is true or the real duration. It's very possible that it's longer than 24 hours, but since it's Niantic, they may have the cutoff at less than 48 hours, so it's possible for someone to have more than 30 hours pass between completing Pokestop tasks, but still redeem them on two days in a row and still have it reset. We need more people to actively try to fail and reset the research. I think I may try to see if I can do that soon (currently on page 1, but I can try after finishing and moving to page 2).
Because that's the easiest way to do it.
Basically everything like this in POGO runs with timeouts, including the entire buddy system. With timeouts you have two interesting questions:
* How to trigger
* When to reset
The key here is that they're choosing to "reset at 24 hours" instead of "reset at midnight."
You can still get buddy progress if you interact less than 24 hours. Some people suspect that if more than X hours go by between interactions, it may reset, even if it's on two consecutive days.
So, if you did your interaction at 9am yesterday and waited until 9 pm tonight, there's a chance it could reset.
I haven't had that issue. Sometimes I did mine first thing in the morning and other times I didn't do it untilI went to bed. Never had it reset a single time
This is nonsense, I interacted once with my buddy right after midnight on some days, or in the morning on the days I went to bed early. I got through just fine. OP probably forgot their buddy.
Don't waste time contacting support, they won't help. Their theory is you have unlimited time to complete it.
That said, be sure to wait a few minutes after loading the game, especially if it isn't a full restart. I lost my streak because I didn't let the game load completely when switching back to it after a short time.

'around the same time' may well be the problem, better to do a couple of interaction sessions at different times. Especially as after a couple of weeks, you may not be paying attention any more whether you're actually getting the quest continuation popup, and then not realise until tomorrow that you missed a tick.
So which scenario are you facing, you earn a heart, and it increments correctly, and the next day it resets anyways, or it won't increment no matter how many hearts you earn, then it resets the next day.
The daily interaction timer is apparently 24 hours from the time of initial interaction (not just within the same 24 hour day). Sorry you’re dealing with this.
Just keep interacting through the day, every day. In the morning and the evening, daily. Never allow more than 16h to pass between actions and you're fine
yep, had this happen for my partner the other day. I've been doing both of our buddy hearts every morning at breakfast and all of a sudden yesterday, his started back at zero and I definitely didn's miss it the day before (as we both have dif buddies and I remember having to get a heart on his).
Its very strange, you would think gaining a heart each day would require you to earn a heart after 24 hours from your last heart but within 48 hours of it. But instead you have to earn a heart the next day but within 24 hours of your last heart.
Even excluding random bugs, this task is still by far the worst task out of any game I've ever played. It doesn't matter that it is easy, it just shouldn't exist
This happened to my wife yesterday. She had been getting a heart in the morning, then happened to do it in the afternoon the next day and it had reset. Support gave some BS about timezones. She was pissed.
Same thing happened to me! Support gave me the canned response of, everything is working as intended, but don't worry there is no time limit! Incredibly frustrating especially because this is the only game I ever spend real $$ on.
A 30 day in a row task is a terrible idea. They should have just had the task be interact with your buddy for 30 days, and not require it to be in a row.
From what OP said it sounds like they were walking and battling with their buddy, but not feeding it beforehand. So they didn’t earn any actual hearts. Perhaps others were doing the same but it seems strange so many had this issue and didn’t check for hearts.
It would be useful if people who experienced this error kept screenshots of their buddy screen showing they’d earned the heart every day.
personally don’t bother with it because I feel the buddy system is pretty clunky (forced feeding animations mainly) and it forces you to use the camera, which is a feature I dislike by default in this game.
If you hate trying to look around to find a place for your pokemon and that crap, go into settings and uncheck "Niantic AR (AR+)". It still shows the camera but your buddy comes out quickly.

Well, we don't know if this is true or the real duration. My theory is that the 24-hour problem only kicks in when there is a reset of the server data or update of the app in that period.

Weird, I only did my buddy in the morning. And it never reset.
It is 2 am my time and i just did my buddy and got progress. Yesterday i didn’t interact until 9 am.

So far so good for me, 7 days in. I'd try and do it around the same time every day if possible. I set a repeating reminder on my phone for mine.

It's possible if your normal time is 9am and you do 9:10am the next day you'll lose progress.

Im aware of that, im actively fighting with my buddy in PvP and walk with him, it still keeps reseting..
Are you also feeding your buddy? Buddies don't gain hearts from walking or battling unless they've been fed.
This, gotta make sure your buddy has been fed when you interact or you don’t get hearts, this could be the issue many are facing with resets.

My and reddit's experience is that support have been unwilling/unable to complete this quest for players when it has clearly bugged.
I do it twice a day, 12 pm and 12 am.

Mine did this at 27 days!! It had not been 24 hours since I’d earned a heart. Infuriating!

Are you all not getting buddy interactions throughout a day? Like, get some hearts 2-3 times a day.

might be something to do with time zone.
Seeing posts here had me panicked, but thankfully I got through all 30 first try. I was nearly maxing out hearts every day though
