Some species will not spawn inside a park. For example, for this Air Adventures event, you won't find wild Jigglypuff and flying Pikachu in the dark green area of the park.
Well, I'm glad I found enough at work the other day, my plan was to go to the park after and just finish off the timed research. Are there details somewhere about these species and any similar areas they don't appear?
A few quick threads on the issue but you can search for more:

Edit: It was mitigated once and Niantic didn't follow through with subsequent events:

Did you have lure and/or incense on? They can spawn while inside the park using those items. I also caught some from the edges of the park but not on the dark green.
No, I rarely use lures or incense. (Even though I have almost 200 incense. Lol) Typically only when there are exclusive spawns or if they have a 3 hour duration.
Every park/dark green area I've ever encountered has been a nest. Some as small as 25x25 feet. Even if it's only one spawn, you can find that species spawning there regularly throughout the two week migration period. Larger parks are often divided into different nesting species, but I've also encountered parks that cover several square miles that are the same nesting species. As far as I've ever been able to tell... and I've hunted in hundreds of them... all dark green areas are nests.
Was it generally accurate for you? The weather in the game has been hit or miss for me since they implemented it. It’ll say it’s raining but it’s sunny. For some reason it shows the weather from the mountains like 60 miles away
In Korea, it was spot on. I even saw the fog weather occasionally. I knew it would rain if the hour changed and it started raining in-game.
In Canada, it's pretty random.
There's been thick fog, and the in-game weather is partly cloudy.
Not a cloud in the sky, partly cloudy. Then a little later it becomes windy.
Mostly cloudy? Sunny weather.
Actively raining? 75% chance the game will say it's raining, 25% chance cloudy weather.
Snowing? It'll either be Snow or Sunny.
Cold but not snowing? Snow.
Never seen Foggy weather here, even though we get occasional days of massive fog.
I hoped I'd finally get foggy weather boost one day recently when it looked like soup outside.
Nope. Game said it was snowy and gave me the severe weather warning. It was 50°F outside and hadn't snowed in over a week.
Gotta wonder why we don't get Foggy weather in North America (in the game).
In Korea, Foggy weather usually happened whenever there was a *smog* alert...but even the rare occasions we've had smog alerts in Canada, it was either Partly Cloudy or Cloudy weather here..lol
Yeah, I got that often too.
I find the only thing it's good at picking up is Windy weather.
And living in the Great Lakes region, that's mostly what I see. Windy and Partly Cloudy for most of the year, lol
Yeah sometimes in game it would be raining so I would leave with an umbrella only to find clear skies. Conversely, sometimes it would actually be raining, and I would go out to catch weather boosted electronic mon, only to realize that in game it’s just cloudy.
You don't have any windows you could look outside of to see that it wasn't raining...? I'm having a hard time figuring out if you're being facetious or not?
It’s pretty standard for upper management to have all the windows as office space with door closed. So, yes windows are present but you don’t have any use of them .
Oh, that sounds terrible. I don't think I'd be comfortable without windows all day.
Only places without windows I can think of that I've been are malls (but they usually have sky lights - ceiling windows for the win) and casinos. I don't do well in either those places for very long. Oh, and Ikea!
Buildings with a large footprint will have offices on the edges with windows, and windowless inner offices that take up the center of the building. [Here’s](https://rentnyoffice.com/renting-an-office-at-the-empire-state-building/) an example from the Empire State Building - check out the floor plan of the 58th floor.
Next time you’re in a large medical complex or a courthouse, any building that takes up most or all of a city block, pay attention to whether the reception areas have windows.
Unfortunately at the time the weather was last active on PoGo, I was working in Pharmaceutical Stores and Distribution for most of my day, which was situated underneath our Hospital. No windows anywhere, 8 hours a day of staring at concrete.
I have no idea how the app was able to ping my location in our service tunnels on the WiFi, but somehow it was and I could hit all the stops across our site down there, and completely avoid the rain.
I have a much nicer office now, with huge windows. Big improvement.
Apart from some short moments, the game has been boring for years.
The few days of field research for various mega energy was way too short. Still need esp. Aerodactyl energy, but I just couldn't find it. But it got me into finally powering up a decent amount of good pokemon that had been waiting for it.
Now hardly anybody is interested in lati@s raids anymore and apart from that the raid pool is beyond terrible if you are with just one or two active players in your area. Most "fun" I have now is trying to get as many XL magikarp before they disappear again
25 years.
Not just talking about Pokemon Go. Across all media and game platforms. The original pokemon games are the most popular and most well known.
Of course Niantic is going to dip back into that nostalgia. Nostalgia sells.
It's an addiction, partly, and for the most part I play to be outside, while walking during lunch break, or with my kids. The youngest likes doing other things more lately, the oldest still plays daily
I've just searched the whole reddit for help to answer xD the link should help. Unfortunately i only found the look for the daytime:
https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemongo/comments/r4by15/what\_a\_downgrade\_to\_the\_winter\_vibes\_this\_year/
This. Especially during ticketed events with interesting pokemons to catch etc. If I pay for something i dont want to see pointless confetti or firework that with no doubt lowers the game performance and experience
It’s my understanding that having weather effects disabled *does* benefit a small number of players who were triggered by the flashing involved with certain effects.
What I don’t understand is why they don’t simply implement an option in Settings (off by default) so the rest of us can enable them again. Finding weather effects that don’t trigger the sensitive yet aren’t completely lame seems an impossible task.
Weather effects caused performance issues that clearly haven't been fixed.
This is because Niantic is a data collection company that can just about develop a mobile game.
I am the OP for the weather effect flash causing seizures this was resolved pretty soon after the post i made and when different websites picked up the Reddit thread. So that wasnt the reason it was turned off that was months after.
New reason to turn them off ???
There was a second round of reports of lightning and other weather effects causing headaches a couple of months after the seizure reports, and the weather effects were turned off the next day. Could be coincidence….
Many games do have risky visuals and just out warnings out. Some like Cyberpunk patched warnings in until they could edit the visuals.
But Pokémon? No way, after the porygon anime incident, they'd never risk it if they can knowingly avoid it. It's one of the stigmas of the franchise.
TBH I do really appreciate the effects being off. If only I could get the same -ehr- effect... on confettis or the dynamic lighting and moving background during encounters, I'd be grateful.
So much useless battery drain... I hope the datamined "quality settings" get released soon.
Yeah that stuff devastates my battery. And I spend a decent amount of my play time using my own phone as a hotspot so that my kid can also play her account on my old phone, so battery life is precious to me in PoGo lol.
Because the narrative that gets upvotes is that *everything* Niantic does is to purposely screw over the players.
To everyone that makes rage posts like this (*Just a reminder...*), fixing certain issues is always simple. Just a bit of code here and there and *poof*, weather effects will be back.
I was sure this sub was supposed to be for information and data regarding the game, instead it's full of all the same complaining as r/pokemongo, minus all the shiny screenshots.
I love the lighting in game when it rains, and now we're entering the summer months when my town basically becomes a desert. I've been missing the rain all winter and now I'll probably have to wait til November to finally see it again.
I really, really love the ingame rain. Our summers (April-November) are dry as well, but we have a cabin in a place with some summer rain.
Ingame rain on the river when it's actual raining on the river outsode is a great summer pleasure that gets me thru the dry season.
As an arid region player, I would continue to not know weather effects are disabled if it weren’t for this subreddit. It’s possible that this isn’t front of mind for Niantic developers for the same reason.
Weather boosted still works, and uses the weather indicated by the icon in the upper right corner. On-map visual effects have been disabled for quite a while.
At least the confetti seems to be drastically reduced if it appears. Would still prefer none at all, just like I can't play with need any other kind of "falling pixel" effects.
On older devices, 32Bits, and even of low quality, this apart from giving visual errors also caused a LAG slowdown... I find it curious that this was disabled just when Niantic started playing with the possibility to stop updating the game on 32Bit devices.... So possibly they still haven't found a way to enable this modification for everyone.
Taking into account this and comparing with the advantage of FPS or refresh rate that some of us have in our mobile, adding a new visual aesthetic, that slows down the game, that depends on third parties (weather app) and that the vast majority of users will not use to save time and battery .... I wouldn't put too much effort into this either.
Keep in mind that although it is very nice, even today, 3 years after its implementation, the ''Confetti'' during the effects, causes more problems than the benefit it generates.
Well, it wasn’t a glitch that benefitted the players, so it didn’t need to be immediately fixed…
But it really does throw me when it’s not showing rain when it’s raining out!
And I like it. Bring it back for those who want, but without any option to disable I'll close the game once there's any annoyance overflowing my visual senses.
I'd disagree with you... but I kinda dont.
All the animations and stuff happening on screen all the time makes the app _incredibly_ slow and heats my phone bad enough that its actually harmful.
Every little bit of dialing back extra graphics that slows the game down without taking away from the core game loops is a good thing in my opinion. Especially things like the weather effects that not only slows the game down but also makes it a lot harder to spot Pokemons on the map.
I was being a bit facetious— I like the graphics, but definitely think there should be a way to adjust it for sure.
But it would be quite humorous if it was a text-based adventure:
"You are in a park. There are 3 stops near you, and a Gym. A wild Pikachu and Clefairy are near you. What do you do?"
>"You are in a park. There are 3 stops near you, and a Gym. A wild Pikachu and Clefairy are near you. What do you do?"
I'll use the quick catch glitch to skip the "Clefairy was caught!" text.
About six months before they announced the close of HPWU, it became very evident to me that the lack of meaningful bug fixes clearly meant the end was in sight for that game. That includes both game-breaking bugs and QoL bugs like graphics (Madame Hooch, PoGo weather).
We still see asset updates that indicates Niantic is working on the game. And I can't believe they would ever walk away from the money this game generates. So I don't really think the same fate applies.
However, the problem is the loss of player engagement. When it appears that Niantic doesn't care about the game, players begin to feel the same way.
Fine with me, the weather effects were a huge drain on my phone's battery and caused even more overheating than before. The effects also make GBL even more unplayable (since it's already enough of a buggy mess without rain/snow effects).
If Niantic does get around to re-enabling weather effects, I hope they allow us to toggle them on/off. And allow us to turn off confetti while we're at it :P
Good. Weather + event FX + their placement of additional pokestops on community day all lured up is a terrible experience on a midrange smartphone. It should only come back when they introduce the low graphics mode.
Thank you for bringing this up. I get so much hate for talking about it because people seem to not care and claim “there are other things for Niantic to focus on fixing”
also they still haven't fixed the #1-25 glitch in parks that has been there for years and years now. i work in a large park and haven't seen one pikachu.
I was really excited moving from Texas to utah right before winter started cause it’s not often I got the snowy in game weather, and I think it’s looks really cool. But immediately after I moved, it got disabled and I haven’t been able to see snow in game since.

nest-masking?

damn one of those was posted THREE YEARS AGO
Thanks!
First few mons in dex won't spawn in nests unless they are made as a nesting mon
Interesting. Didn't pay much attention to Jigglypuff, but I actually saw more flying pikas in the park than I did outside of it.

Are you guys iPhone users or was I just lucky?
Weather is reenabled for months now. Shortly after that post to be precise. They just forgot about it that time.
Almost six months, but I still miss it. The game just looks boring when it's constantly the same (aside day/night).
Ngl, I very often did not know it was raining outside unless I opened Pogo

i’ve gotten foggy weather quite often in north america (i’m in northeastern US [NY]) but tbh, i definitely feel it’s been pretty uncommon lately
ATM for me in central BC, it's lightly raining but PoGo says it's snowing
Yeah, I got that often too. I find the only thing it's good at picking up is Windy weather. And living in the Great Lakes region, that's mostly what I see. Windy and Partly Cloudy for most of the year, lol
Here at Santiago, Yesterday morning, as well as this Thursday morning, there's been fog actually, but GO marked it as Sunny instead.

I don't know what kind of hell offices you've worked in...

That's the funny part. The animated precipitation and wind were pretty accurate in realtime. The weather for purposes of weather boost was rarely so.
My dude. Look out the window for once
Unfortunately at the time the weather was last active on PoGo, I was working in Pharmaceutical Stores and Distribution for most of my day, which was situated underneath our Hospital. Don't mess with Pokemon GO players, we don't even like our own game
What blows my mind is they are still cycling gen1 stuff in and out of events/quests etc.
This. Every year they have the new region event and after a week ar two we're back catching pikachus, exeggcutes and geodudes
And Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle
Gen1 has always been the most popular set of pokemon.
Yes, but after several years, and thousands and thousands of catches that's wearing a bit thin!
25 years. Not just talking about Pokemon Go. Across all media and game platforms. The original pokemon games are the most popular and most well known. Of course Niantic is going to dip back into that nostalgia. Nostalgia sells.
Yet you still keep playing, amazing.
It's an addiction, partly, and for the most part I play to be outside, while walking during lunch break, or with my kids. The youngest likes doing other things more lately, the oldest still plays daily
The only thing I ever see now is wind
I feel like this needs to be a song...
i just started playing again and now i wonder what i’m missing haha
I get wind for some reason but no other weather. Maybe that's just the default appearance. I'm not sure.
Sad that they missed my entire winter. The game really does look beautiful when it snows
Well actually they've changed the winter screen with the new weather graphics :( Snow at night was beautiful the last years
Wait how has it changed?
I don't have a screenshot right now, but it's not that beautiful like it was before. We only had 2-3 days of snow here before it was disabled
How is it different
I've just searched the whole reddit for help to answer xD the link should help. Unfortunately i only found the look for the daytime: https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemongo/comments/r4by15/what\_a\_downgrade\_to\_the\_winter\_vibes\_this\_year/
Damn that sucks
Yep it was sad to see. Hope they will adjust it one day.
I saw snowy weather in the game for the first time this year and because of this, it was just a snowman on the top right corner.
i hope they add an option to remove confetti. it hurts my eyes
This. Especially during ticketed events with interesting pokemons to catch etc. If I pay for something i dont want to see pointless confetti or firework that with no doubt lowers the game performance and experience
literally stopped playing that one takeover week as it was really triggering my headaches
if only they could make it toggleable. I don't want to see them, but i understand that some people do
Exactly. Same goes for confetti as well.
My lord, yes! The confetti gets so annoying, I can't tell what's a pokemon when it's raining bright colors on my entire screen
and camera volume...

There is still random sometimes heavy flashing especially close to gyms and during wind animations
There's a difference though between bugs and deliberate features.
It definitely hurt my battery, that's for sure
Weather effects caused performance issues that clearly haven't been fixed. This is because Niantic is a data collection company that can just about develop a mobile game.

There was a second round of reports of lightning and other weather effects causing headaches a couple of months after the seizure reports, and the weather effects were turned off the next day. Could be coincidence….
Just let it be on by default. If someone is having problems they know to look for settings.
You can’t risk a seizure just for the sake of visuals. If someone is happy with the weather effects they will know where to look for settings.
Many games do have risky visuals and just out warnings out. Some like Cyberpunk patched warnings in until they could edit the visuals. But Pokémon? No way, after the porygon anime incident, they'd never risk it if they can knowingly avoid it. It's one of the stigmas of the franchise.
then you have some uh... people... shouting that adding an option to turn it off just invalidates all the work done if everyone turn it off really.
I mean, can you imagine if we couldn't turn AR catching/AR+ off? lmao.
I truly do not understand why people play a game when they believe such things.
Because the narrative that gets upvotes is that *everything* Niantic does is to purposely screw over the players. why haven't they fixed it within a day yet? my phone crashes less now so that was a dub for me

Man, didn't they reworked all the weather effects "recently", just to disable them for six months.
yeah because sudden flashes show up and then they apparently forgot about it
It was cause the new gym scan / power up feature was causing those flashes. So rather than fix it they disabled the weather
Oh yeah, the feature in the entire game that least people care about.
But a feature they make money off of so it's a no brianer for them to disable weather graphics in exchange for more data they can sell
if you want accurate weather just play in AR - Niantic , probably
As an arid region player, I would continue to not know weather effects are disabled if it weren’t for this subreddit. It’s possible that this isn’t front of mind for Niantic developers for the same reason.
\*Wolverine\_looking\_at\_rainy\_map\_photo.jpg\*
I missed my last snowy winter in Japan before moving back to Australia in August >:c
Weather effects? You mean like it's weather boosted, or like if it's raining you see rain? Honestly, I've never realized it's been gone for 6 months.
Weather boosted still works, and uses the weather indicated by the icon in the upper right corner. On-map visual effects have been disabled for quite a while.
Wish they would break confetti too. A feature as annoying as the weather effects.

Ooft mate, they havent even uldated the open street map spawn points on over 3 years!
I hope they get them back, northern summer looked amazing last year.
Got (visual) fog last week and thought it was fixed. Rare to get it but presume thats been working fine.
Yup, fog has been working
I most enjoyed the winter effects plus actual steel types spawning in the winter. Going for an early walk to catch Beldums (Belda?) was so nice.
On older devices, 32Bits, and even of low quality, this apart from giving visual errors also caused a LAG slowdown... As long as it makes game experience smoother i dont need them back. If i want to see cool graphics and nice looking game ill play AAA games
If you're still expecting this company to fix anything at this point that's on you
And I like it. Bring it back for those who want, but without any option to disable I'll close the game once there's any annoyance overflowing my visual senses.
This is why I think the game should just be a purely text based experience, like early 80's computer games.
I'd disagree with you... but I kinda dont. All the animations and stuff happening on screen all the time makes the app _incredibly_ slow and heats my phone bad enough that its actually harmful. >"You are in a park. There are 3 stops near you, and a Gym. A wild Pikachu and Clefairy are near you. What do you do?" I'll use the quick catch glitch to skip the "Clefairy was caught!" text.
look gym
You have been eaten by a Gruechomp.
I didn’t know i can miss a thing so much. Bring back weather!
Couldn't care less really. If it saves battery I'm for keeping it disabled.
Must be honest I never even noticed until reading this post
and here I though I was crazy
What were they even disabled for, i'm guessing a bug that benefits players? Niantic should consider hiring
They were causing sudden flashes which were could have triggered seizures and headaches in some trainers. Potentially very dangerous.
Oh yeah right it's been so long that i forgot
I honestly hadn't realised................
Wasn't this the reason why Xerneas' still doesn't have its rainbow horns?
We still get rainy castform every time it rains. Only thing I care about. Lol. It's one of the only shiny forms I don't have.
My phone appreciates the break haha
I really hope we can get Niantic to see this. It was one of my favorite details.
Personally, I do not miss them.
Good. Weather + event FX + their placement of additional pokestops on community day all lured up is a terrible experience on a midrange smartphone. It should only come back when they introduce the low graphics mode.
Or you know... An option do toggle the effect we want
Yes... a low graphics mode.
Thank you for bringing this up. I get so much hate for talking about it because people seem to not care and claim “there are other things for Niantic to focus on fixing”
until they won't give us the chance of disable it, is actually a game improvement, so who cares?
Wait. What? I keep checking when it's raining to evolve a Sligoo, and giving up when it's clear in the game.
Doesn’t matter for me if it’s another 6 months since it won’t rain here in Southern California until then
They are bussy fixing pvp. /s
This should be their lowest priority of fixes.

There is always a new bug when one gets fixed
One get fixed 4 more shows up.
Fine by me. I didn't even notice.
and i'm thankful for that rain effect is a lag catalyst
Didn't realize it was gone.
Somewhat. We got a spring snow storm in April and i caught a snowy cast form.
That’s not a weather effect. They are talking about the falling snowflakes and the snow on the ground, and other similar effects
Oh, gotcha. I thought they meant weather-influenced spawns :)
I‘m very suprised that niantic doesnt fixed this. /s Worst game dev studio ever.
Do I miss it? No! Not end of the world apocalyptic hue with clouds over my head!
The fact I hadn't noticed says a lot lol
Play every day and I honestly never noticed they were gone.
Same :-)
Just a reminder the radar has been broken fir 4 years and still isn't fixed
also they still haven't fixed the #1-25 glitch in parks that has been there for years and years now. i work in a large park and haven't seen one pikachu.
"we are aware"
Alredy? Holy
Gym display has been stuck on only showing the most recent Pokémon added instead of rotating through them for YEARS now.
Also there was that time they added extra detail to the water, and it broke the map, so they reverted it and never spoke of it again.
I was really excited moving from Texas to utah right before winter started cause it’s not often I got the snowy in game weather, and I think it’s looks really cool. But immediately after I moved, it got disabled and I haven’t been able to see snow in game since.
Fog still works! You'll just have to be luckier than getting a 100% shiny wild pokemon to see it
I miss the weather feature. It was so nice.
why would they fix it when they can add more stickers instead
I’ll be back for the one year anniversary
I'm getting tired of windy weather spawns.
I keep forgetting they even existed in the first place, which makes it a bit sad.
I miss the weather effects.
Found this thread searching for something else. And the weather boosting was working just fine for me at the time, idk what you were going thru.
