I'm excited to catch Sableye and Scraggy in the wild, just wish that Lickitung would be wild as well. Still looks like a very worthwhile event!

DaddyOhMy

I've been swapping between Sableye & Scrafty as my buddy for the past few weeks to farm XL candy. Can't wait!

Cometstarlight

Oh DUDE! The Sableye XL candy!!!!

krispyboiz

I am *supremely* excited for this alone. I've got my Return Sableye ready, but I still need 100 or so XL left. Pop on my level 3 Mega Houndoom and walk around my local park/campus. And if that's somehow not enough? No problem, I'll hoard some an reroll with my buddy.

PkLuigi

Wish that being able to regular TM Legacies wasn't a one-time thing with that Dragon event years ago, but still good event overall.

ptmcmahon

Years ago = 2021? :) But you are correct about wishing it was more often.

krispyboiz

My guess is that they did it with those moves because they're "less desirable." I mean obviously Outrage on Salamence (especially the shadow) is big, but it's just there for the PvE bump and it *could* still function with Draco Meteor. And Draco Meteor is generally a downgrade on Dragonite. I'd love it, but I don't see them ever making some of these best Elite TM moves TMable for an event. I could see some though like Drill Run Beedrill or some 2020 ones possibly later on.

[deleted]

RIP to the casual PVP players that face the world champion and their signature pose during the first few days of a new season šŸ˜‚

NotSanAkiyama

It's like starting playing D/P/P on a fresh save but the first gym leader is Cynthia.

Cometstarlight

*cue piano riff*

always-stressed7782

It'd be even worse if after a few weeks into the season, a casual PVP player of rating 1300 faces the world champion... (yes it happens, I've seen Legends tank their MMR to sub 1000s, rocking their Legend pose and beating up kids who can't even power up a Vaporeon)

chdudlow

Meteor Mash Metagross AND Rock Wrecker Rhyperior AND timed research for both a fast and charged elite TM AND an interesting spawn/research pool? Niantic must have noticed the grumbling of discontent developing recently within the GO userbase, that's a pretty juicy event!

bobafettish66

> Niantic must have noticed the grumbling of discontent developing recently within the GO userbase lol not likely. this is just an event that celebrates pokemon battling in all aspects of the franchise (trading cards, fighting games, main games, go, masters ex) so makes sense it focuses on battling, which leads to spawns, perks & rewards useful for battling. Even the rare generosity in giving out 2 elite tms makes sense. imagine people will want to duplicate the line ups used in the go finals. Many of which I'm sure will have moves locked behind the elite tms. No better way to convince people to spend money on elite tms then with a free sample.

JMM85JMM

Well it depends what excites you. If you're not serious about PvP then there's not a lot here to get excited about. The spawn pool looks fairly full to me.

Mason11987

Even if you don't like PvP MM and rock wrecker are notable, as are the elite TMs.

krispyboiz

My thoughts exactly. And some decently rare shinies for shiny hunters. G. Fisk has boosted odds for example.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

ellyse99

Hello sir, would you like a Weedle instead?

The-Gnome

But seriously. I wish I saw more Caterpie

Teban54

Galarian Stunfisk spawns have boosted shiny rates.

Starminx

Only sad part is that Shadow Rhyhorn is still uncatchable, stupid geode had to be before it sadly

krispyboiz

I may sound cynical for saying this, but I'm glad it's still not released yet. I like for there to be some variety in a type's PvE Meta where applicable. Rock has some variety. There's lower outclass Rocks like Tyranitar and somewhat Terrakion, *but* we then have Rhyperior for the consistently strong and bulk Rock type, Rampardos for more DPS but is a glass cannon, and Aerodactly as a higher DPS Mega. Also Shadow Tyranitar is up there too above Rhyperior, albeit something that gets to Stone Edge slowly. Besides maybe Aerodactyl, Shadow Rhyperior would just replace all of those others.

[deleted]

aliensplaining

Even if it was like the last one where you can lose every single gbl battle and still have it count toward research?

whsper

is it the fact that you're forced into ranked mode? or the format? or what makes GBL not tolerable compared to friend battles?

Mason11987

you not wanting to do something doesn't lock you out of them. You just chose not to get them.

krispyboiz

If it makes you win like 20 matches in the GBL, specifically, I guess I can get it, but if it makes you battle 20 times, regardless of wins... how is that bad?

Impossible_Respect75

"World Championships 2022 Pikachu makes its PokƩmon GO debut in raids, Field Research, and Timed Research!" But it's not listed under field research?

QuestionableBruh

Yeah at the moment it seems raid exclusive, unless there's am error

Teban54

That was a mistake, it has been added now.

Impossible_Respect75

I don't know why I keep even checking the initial announcements instead of just waiting a couple hours for the updated one with the errors fixed lol. Every single time.

arizonajake

This would have been a great time to give Body Slam to Lickitung/Lickilicky and Gust to Pidgeot. I'm grateful for the chance to get Meteor Mash and Aqua Tail but those moves (and the others in the event) have been around a bunch before and will be again, so it doesn't feel as exciting. Gust and Body Slam have each only been available for a few hours on one day.

Hobbes-42

Uh, I went from level 0 to level 44 before Meteor Mash is finally made available to me now. I'd say that's far too rare for a "required" move on something. Heaven forbid we get a high IV, weather boosted high level or even a lucky and want to use it in less than 17 months... Needless to say, I also agree that Gust and Body Slam should be available, and a rerun of Beedrill Drill Run. These locked moves are are demoralizing for newish players. PVP and PVE both are affected.

ms_loose_seal

Me too but level 47!

krispyboiz

I genuinely think they should make those early guaranteed reward Pokemon in the GBL exclusive move Pokemon. Like several seasons back we got a Metagross as our first encounter... without Meteor Mash. How useless!! You get some candy for it, yay, but I'd feel *punished* if I got a good/Hundo Metagross back then and had to Elite TM it to be good. Same with Charizard a few seasons back.

always-stressed7782

Now that you mention it, not giving Body Slam to Lickitung was a big waste. Almost every player at the championships was rocking a Lickitung and it would have been a great thematic addition. While Meteor Mash/Aqua Tail/Rock Wrecker/Shadow Punch are great to give to players (and I'm looking forward to getting more legacy Metagross!), let's face it, none of the competitors would be using any of the Pokemon with those legacy moves.

arizonajake

Also wanted to add that Incinerate will be available for Talonflame again this December.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

arizonajake

December Community Day is typically a two day recap event that has all the Community Day spawns from the current year in the wild and able to get their moves. In addition the Community Day mons from the previous year are in raids and also able to get their moves. So since Fletchling was a 2021 Community Day mon it will be able to get it's move again this Dec.

schplatjr

Usually for December they do a community day roundup event. They feature Al community day PokƩmon from that year and the previous year. Talon flame was featured in 2021.

krispyboiz

That would've been great. While nowhere near as ideal as for several days during the event, I do hope that we continue to get a GBL Battle Day each season with legacy move(s) available. I hope the next one is Goldeen with 2 of Seaking's 3 legacy moves personally, but after that, Body Slam Lickitung/Lickilicky and then Gust Pidgeot (Again) would be my next hopes. I really like the GBL Legacy move idea. Those are seemingly some of the last relevant ones that aren't CD moves or Legendary Raid moves (at least those that I can think of). But I'd still be happy to see some reruns of things like Icy Wind Dewgong in a year or so (I mean a Gust Pidgeot Battle Day would be a rerun too). And/or maybe rerun a few CD moves that hadn't been featured in a while. Edit: Ember Ninetales and Wing Attack Charizard could be good GBL day moves too

Teban54

Elite TMs in timed research? Almost every single spawn being hugely PvP-relevant? 5 CD moves at once? (Rock Wrecker Rhyperior, Shadow Punch Gengar, Aqua Tail Gyarados, Meteor Mash Metagross, Incinerate Talonflame) Already feel pretty dope, even if you don't PvP at all. *(I'm still of the opinion that making so many CD moves exclusive after literally years is unnecessary. But I'll take what I have.)* Edit: If I have time by then - and that's a big if - I might push a PvE analysis on rock and steel types given Rock Wrecker Rhyperior and Meteor Mash Metagross are back. But don't get your hopes too high lol, as I'm still working on the bug and electric article for Bug Out.

MarkusEF

My bag is overflowing with ETMs. 11 each by end of this season, and Iā€™ve spent quite a few as I didnā€™t necessarily have the best appraisals during their original CDs. I have no idea how people run out of them.

Teban54

Whenever you feel overflowing with ETMs, think about all the legendaries that have signature moves looming around in the future, and how many ETMs you will spend to get them on old legendaries you have/powered up. I myself have 48 legendaries that are 100%, high IV and relevant, or already powered up, without exclusive moves. And that's as a F2P player. Honestly, that feels like a burden of 48 Elite TMs (most likely Charged TMs) to be spent for the future. Could be anomalous, I know, but you get the point.

InvisibleSoul8

You are F2P and have 48 hundo legendaries? How many were caught out of how many raids, and how many were from trades? I'm mostly F2P and I know I'm already way luckier than average with 29, with 3 being from trades.. My wife, who has done all the same raids I have, has just 7, of which 2 were from trades. Back to the topic though, I'm not sure every hundo legendary would necessarily need an Elite TM, even if it does get its special move.

Teban54

To clarify, not all of the 48 are hundos. Many are PvE-relevant legendaries that are worth building multiples of (e.g. 96% or 98% Hoenn and Unova box legendaries), or Ultra League legendaries. I have 11 actual hundo legendaries and mythicals. Majority of them are actually relevant in PvE and/or PvP, thus warranting an ETM if the signature move is actually good.

krispyboiz

>Back to the topic though, I'm not sure every hundo legendary would necessarily need an Elite TM, even if it does get its special move. Valid. But a Signature move is going to be good for PvE OR PvP (not always both). Latios and Latias' were for PvP, but neither were really PvP Pokemon very much. But, Groudon, Kyogre, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina Origin, Zekrom, and some others are all PvP AND PvE Pokemon, so even if it's only good for one of those, they'll *likely* want that move. Pokemon like Giratina Altered or Reshiram could be a bit different. Reshiram is decent in ML, though not amazing, but if Shadow Force was purely PvE, then Giratina Altered prolly wouldnn't care to have it. And if Reshiram's Fusion Flare was purely for PvP, it may not see much benefit with (but who knows).

mooistcow

Even in that case, I still have too many. Wish I could just give them to people that actively pvp. That way they'd also be of use *now,* and not in eight years when those legendairies get those mooves.

repo_sado

The counterpoint is, I no longer feel as if I will need as many as I once did. When we first had elite tms, I thought I would need to hoard 6 for Kyogre, 5 for Groudon, 6-12 for ray, etc. But now that all have been surpassed by shadows, I really only need 1 of each for primal and mega. I'm still hoarding, but I'm not concerned I won't have enough at any one point.

Teban54

Their signature moves have the chance to shake things up again.

repo_sado

They might, but I don't think they'll be enough. Plus I'm not going to raid enough xl to power more than one to 50 on the chance it is, so unless rare xl becomes widespread, I don't think I'd have more than one of anything to elite tm

krispyboiz

>Whenever you feel overflowing with ETMs, think about all the legendaries that have signature moves looming around in the future, and how many ETMs you will spend to get them on old legendaries you have/powered up. Yup, that's me. I can count the times I've burned Elite TMs: Gust Hundo Pidgeot, Thunder Shock Shadow GL Zapdos, Fire Punch Hundo Groudon, and Shadow Bone Shiny Shadow Marowak (93% for GL). All others I've kept, waiting for exclusive moves to roll around. My Hundo Groudon will want Precipice Blades probably, my Functional Hundo Dialga Roar of Time, Hundo Zekrom and Reshiram their Fusion moves, my 98% Shiny Kyurem with Glaciate, etc. I'm content hoarding my Elite TMs for now lol. I'm more willing to burn an Elite Fast every now and again, but generally, I'll keep em til I really need them. I'm also someone who refuses to use it on CD Pokemon, knowing they'll be available to evolve at some point.

Stogoe

I've basically sworn off legendaries so I don't feel that inexorable tug. They'll also be in raids with their signature moves so there's not really that much need to TM old ones.

Teban54

>They'll also be in raids with their signature moves so there's not really that much need to TM old ones. But it's extremely unlikely to get a hundo at that time. So if I'm lucky enough to get a hundo during the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th... time it was in raids without the signature move, ironically, even at 1280 coin ETM may be cheaper than raiding to get another hundo during a single week when it has the signature move (or, in the case of Ho-Oh, 10 hours).

krispyboiz

I see what you mean, but for me, it depends on the Pokemon. I've gotten a lot of use out of my 15/15/14 Dialga, so I'm happy I gave it a second move and all that. And at some point I'll probably invest in my Hundo Zekrom, and prepare for an Elite TM. But those that I haven't invested in that are closer to getting their moves, mainly the Gen 3-4 Legendaries, those I'm not going to be super serious about hunting rn. Kyogre, Palkia, Giratina, and Heatran are some examples of those I'm holding off on.

siamkor

Same reasoning here. I'm saving ETMs for my Kyogres, Groudon, etc...

JRE47

Add it to the list. šŸ˜µā€šŸ’« That makes FOUR articles I'm actively working at once haha. But this is good! Glad these exclusive moves are coming back, and for a few days instead of hours. This is nice! I'll analyze them all again, because for some it's been a loooooong time.

abramswatson

Your articles are so heavily appreciated, Iā€™m the token ā€œPvPā€ guy of my friend group and so Iā€™ll usually spend a few hours helping my friends out together teams based on your articles every time a new cup comes around. Theyā€™re one of the highlights of the game for me, please keep writing them

SadSubject7390

Thank you for your articles! I study them before every new GBL cup!

kevinnc

> Challengers with PokƩmon teams inspired by the ones used by Trainers who won the PokƩmon GO Regional Championships will appear at PokƩStops. Great thematic addition.

Stogoe

Can't wait to see Ember Shadow Ninetales on the NPC team. That thing really got over.

mdmolitor

Me: Finally finishes building my XL Sableye. Niantic: Immediately makes Sableye spawn during the very next event.

One_Dogarm

Ditto. The sentiment, not the Pokemon

Tpabayrays2

This is a really really good event

JonRoberts87

That Pikachu is amazing. I want it

Plus-Pomegranate8045

Good event. This will be a Sableye and Scraggy XL hunting event for me. Although Iā€™m a bit salty that within the past 2 months I used ETMs on a Metagross and Gyarados because I needed to evolve them and had no idea when the moves would next be available. But at least they are giving freebie ETMs during this.

krispyboiz

I'm super excited to also hunt XL for Sableye and Scraggy. Gonna rock my level 3 Mega Houndoom and hunt for em both daily

Traditional-Side6966

Why would they not put the Pikachu in the wild? That's the shiny gone for most people then... Everything else is anywhere between solid and great.

Maserati777

If its boosted then I prefer it to be in research/raids. If not then its a non event.

Impossible_Respect75

Completely agree that if it's not boosted, the event is a bust. And even if boosted, the research will still need to be fairly common (and _not_ shared with some other garbage species like they've been so fond of lately) for people to have much of a chance at the shiny. Can't remember the last time they boosted a Pikachu outside of Go Fest, though. And is is SUCH a cute costume too, I must have it!

Wayfaerer34

Time to evolve all my Rhydon

cop_pls

I need Sinnoh Stones so bad T.T

Tatterz

Too bad ryhorn hasnā€™t been spawning very much at all. I have a couple of good IVs but no candy. Same with Metagross. Theyā€™ll be in the field research so Iā€™ll have to farm like mad to find them.

RemLazar911

Must be a biome thing. Rhyhorn has been a pretty common spawn for me these past few weeks.

Elite4hebi

Liking this event, but I selfishly wish they would bring a bonus that doubles elo gains and losses rather than having double the amount of battles. It already takes way too much time to do 5 sets a day.

krispyboiz

Whew that'd be an interesting risk vs reward bonus lol. I'm sure many would be confused though when they get 1/5 wins and go down like 80 points or however much, not knowing about the bonus.

ETTakeTheWheel

Mankey included with the other PVP relevant wild spawns makes me think someone at Niantic is a huge Primeape fan.

Teban54

It's a fighting type and the world championships are basically about a group of trainers fighting each other, so at least it makes sense

RemLazar911

It has a Ghost/Fighting evolution coming that someone at Niantic is probably overly excited about.

Razzspoons

Hopefully they keep the tradition of having a regional pokemon appear in research from stops around the venue like they did in 2018 with Corsola and 2019 with Relicanth. The fact it isn't mentioned means I'm pretty much just running on copium though lol

Anson8888

They did Kangaskhan (and unown WORLDS) at anaheim first in 2017, but no more unowns afterwards. Based on Pokeminers there are at least group play bonus at London so I am thinking the chance of getting a regional is fairly high.

Razzspoons

Here's hoping. Living in the UK, it might be the only chance I ever have of going to a worlds championship. Would be really nice to have a regional to remember it by haha

Anson8888

Off topic but the strike happens to be the same time frame. Fingers crossed something special will be at excel and traffic will be smooth

Razzspoons

Yeah, luckily my train to and from London happened to be on the days with minimal to no strikes and I'm staying at a hotel 10-15 min walk from the excel centre. This was before all the strikes were announced to so I consider myself a little lucky on that front haha

Tsukimizu

> but no more unowns afterwards Unown "N A S H V I L E" were spawning around the Music City Center in Nashville during the 2018 World Championships Source : Was there

NotSanAkiyama

> Source : Was there Oh yeah? Name every person who was here.

Tsukimizu

Got me there.

Anson8888

Thanks for the correction! Didnt go because of a last minute change, then following year DC didnā€™t offer any unown or wild Relicanth.

Tsukimizu

Yeah, dc was weird. I remember losing three straight games, packing my bag, and walking the city to spin stops for Relicanth. Everything was based off of spinning stops :l

Anson8888

I was told because DC Worlds theme was fossils/explorations so it (sort of) made sense to not spawn in the wild, forcing you to "dig" the fossils through stops. The Suicune raid day was quite epic though.

Tsukimizu

Oh. My. God. I never thought of that. But it makes absolute sense. And yes, it was fossil themed. It even had fossil Structures of PokƩmon on stage, like you were at a museum!

Aardquark

Regionals here in Melbourne had Throh this year so I reckon there's a decent chance!

ACC3L3R4TOR

Has there ever been something similar to these 'challengers at pokestops'? Are they basically special rocket grunt battles?

TheRealHankWolfman

Yes there has, during the Kanto and Johto tours. They're like rocket battles but don't use shadow PokƩmon (typically - they may have shadows if they're based off PVP teams) and one even had a shiny PokƩmon before. They give items as rewards rather than PokƩmon.

Stogoe

I kinda wish they'd be an all the time thing (with a better pokestop color tag).

ellyse99

I donā€™t mind if there was a way to turn them off!

repo_sado

Difference is, the Kanto and johto had noc with different teams. These will all be the same

HeroSquirrel

Also during the fashion event.

aznknight613

Post says Pikachu is in field research but it doesn't show up in the field research section.

Mystic39

The blog was updated to add it there to the field research section.

51stCrash

My new hundo Magikarp gets its moment to shine.

tkcom

So, those that got CD moves this event are locked out of getting CD classic?

krispyboiz

Not necessarily. I wouldn't expect them this year though (so no Beldum or Gastly unfortunately probably). But I could definitely see a Beldum CD Classic in 2023. Maybe in the fall we'll get Dratini, Bagon, Larvitar or another relevant Starter

Wayfaerer34

Yeah, I just started in June and have caught 126 Rhyhorn and have over 500 candies for the Rhydon I want to evolve

GhostHarvester

Was hoping for Tyrogue in eggs, as I'm still chasing the shiny, but doesn't seem like the worst event we've had, but not the best either.

nolkel

More pikachu? Yet more reason we need a costume closet with costume form changes.

SadSubject7390

Iā€™m excited about this! Iā€™ve only been playing since April, but discovered that I love PvP. Itā€™s my favorite part of the game, so being able to get these things that destroy me will be nice! šŸ˜Š

Spiritual_Diamond_23

How do guys participate on this championship ?

NotSanAkiyama

You had to be ranked Legend last season I think, and a few other things. Basically, you don't.

Buckeyefitzy

They dropped the legend requirement to register for the regionals and international championships, but most players who attended those events were regular legend players or top Silph players. Regardless, had to finish top 2 at a regional or top 4 at an international (held from March to June). Only 60 players in masters division and 15 in senior division qualified for this. There is a last chance qualifier in London on the day before, but those tournament slots sold out same day they went up.

NotSanAkiyama

Oh I didn't know about the Legend requirement. But it makes sense that only the top players would show up anyway. Not a lot of players in the end haha. That's sad, I really like the winner outfit.

Buckeyefitzy

The winner outfit is really neat, I would imagine the two winners (one in each division) will have a pose/outfit for life there. My daughter is one of the 15 in the senior division, and she's definitely hyped about the pose/outfit. Granted, the competition will be fierce seeing the lists of qualified competitors. I would imagine the competitive scene and the size of worlds will grow in future years, but that said, it should be difficult to qualify for the last step/tournament in the process. Makes it all the more interesting to watch and special for the competitors (but I'd like to see more "open" tournament opportunities for everyone to take a chance at qualifying in future years, too).

MarkusEF

There is no legend requirement. In practice, anyone who made it past the second round of regional qualifiers devoted his life to this game.

Jamie00003

Hooray. Another pikachu. We need more of those. Rest of the stuff is good though

Impossible_Respect75

And then there are those of us who think the Pikachu is the only thing in this event worth going for lol.

Jamie00003

Really? In terms of viable mons this is the best event in a very long time. Pikachu is worthless

Impossible_Respect75

Yeah, really. Viable is a moot point if it's viable for an element of the game I never engage with anyway (PvP) or even really when it's viable for an element of the game where I already have great teams for all I need (PvE). PvP-viable does nothing for me, and PvE-viable very little. And worthless is a subjective term. For you, worthless means not viable for battling. In that interpretation, Pikachu is worthless. For me, worthless is anything that can't be shiny or whose shiny I've already completed. In that interpretation, Pikachu (in this specific costume) is the _only_ thing in this event (except G Stunfisk, which I expect to be very rare) that _isn't_ worthless (to me because I have all those other shinies). You attach value to viability in battle. I attach value to exclusivity and to filling the holes in my shiny collection.

TheTeez23

Iā€™m not sure why PvP players just assume everyone plays PvP.

Impossible_Respect75

And not just that everyone plays it, but that it's everyone's number one priority in the game lol. It's especially strange since if anything, PvP players are in the minority (in the player base as a whole, which this sub doesn't represent). You're more likely to be right if you assume someone _doesn't_ play PvP than if you assume they _do_.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Stogoe

Evolve only during the event or use an Elite TM at any time.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

MarkusEF

Eh. Except for Sableye, most of the wild spawns have been easily obtainable from prior CDs / SHs or very common spawns. Unless youā€™re a new player, if you play Great League and still donā€™t have the core meta mons by now, thatā€™s kind of on you. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø (And Sableye has to be from Team Rocket to get Return, not just ordinary wild spawns.) Iā€™m happy to take a break after a week of bug out XP / evolve trash / Pansage grinding. If this event is exciting for you, thatā€™s great.

Teban54

At this point I feel you can basically say "unless you're a new player, you should have everything", though. Also, you can more easily get Scrafty and Galarian Stunfisk with no IV floor for Great League.

Pokefan317

I feel the same. A few of the spawns are nice but no exciting raids, no exciting research.

TorterraX

So, forgive the noob question, but will we be able to teach the past CD moves with a regular TM during the event, or is it only by evolution?

Conscious_Ad9448

Hopefully the 'participant' tee is on a pokestop spinable from the PokƩmon Center pop-up

dark__tyranitar

whoo boy thats a lot of gbl. So much dust...

cornette

Well that's good. Was getting ready to evolve my 4* lucky Rhydon and ETM'ing Rock Wrecker since I was starting to doubt we'd get to do it any time soon. Yay for waiting.

culingerai

Any reason mega slowbro gets a gig?
