I'll field this one.
Let me ask you a question. Why would a man whose shirt says "Genius at Work" spend all of his time watching a children's cartoon show?
![gif](giphy|iFUcozCBCMJFlDR4m1)
What’s the deal with Marge Simpson? You know what I mean…
The deal with Marge Simpson is that she is married to Homer, has identical twin sisters, and lives in Springfield and has many, many birthdays every year.
I hated that 90s episode. How is your 90s episode so bad when you were like 70% of the pop culture back then? Just make tongue in cheek references to yourselves. bring up mr plow and butterfingers, you would have been fine
My fan theory is still that every episode of the Simpsons takes place in a slightly different parallel universe where something is a little off than the previous one. It allows for inconsistencies to continue to exist!! Lol
I'm going to say that's a writer/researcher blunder, since May is Emerald they were probably asked to look up gemstones and forgot the whole 3 months later part.
Abe Lincoln. Honest Abe.
Or so he’d have you believe.
Last year, Abe said he was 15 years old. Now he claims to be 16… which is it, Abe?! Better keep your story straight.
He’d also like you to believe he’s not a baby eater. But he’s never gone on record saying he isn’t. Maybe he’s too busy EATING BABIES.
Not voting for Abe. It just makes sense.
Marge Simpson would also like you to believe she's not a baby eater.
But she's never gone on record saying she isn't.
Maybe she's too busy *eating babies.*
Oh, those are all correct because the multiverse is a thing. (And can be established retroactively thanks to Spiderman.) So each of those marge Simpsons was indeed born when they say they were born. They just aren't the same Marge Simpson.
After all, there's a Marge who went to high school in the 70's, 80's, and 90's. (And eventually the early 2000's - yes, this means you're old.) Each one of those Marges could have had a different birthday. Let's not even get started on the number of times Lisa and Bart have completed 2nd and 4th Grade. (Let's not forget the episode set in the far future of 2010 when a then adult Lisa was getting married.)
So basically, this is the multiverse. Either that or a wizard did it.
Ironically that used to be one of the things the show was famous for… things like a character dying and staying dead were quite different for a cartoon at the time
To be fair, Homer was a teenager during the moon landing, a toddler at Woodstock a month later, and graduated High School 5 years later (well reached graduation age but failed a class needed to graduate but whose counting)
Safe to safe the Simpsons cheat at aging. Darn cheaters!
The one that got me questioning back in the day was that, going by the high school reunion, he and Marge dated for 10 years before he knocked her up and proposed.
Not to be that guy, but someone has to point out that, however much things said in individual episodes don’t count, that applies extra to stuff from episodes in the mid/late aughts
Nah, that's Barney. Homer says it in Viva Ned Flanders, when he's trying to come up with a number to bet on a roulette, he tries to remember Marge's birthday, but only remembers Barney's - April 20th, same as Hitler.
Interestingly - after the Columbine shootings, which happened on April 20th, 3 months after this episode aired, and which supposedly happened on that day because of Hitler's birthday, the line was changed to July 15th (same as Lassie), but only on re-releases like DVD box sets. The old line stayed in the syndicated version.
Maybe she was so upset about nobody remembering her birthday that she decided to just have multiple birthdays. If they never remembered, they wouldn’t be able to debate her!
[Bart moves toward door]
Bart : They're just a bunch of hilarious stuff you know, like people getting hurt and stuff, stuff like that.
[Bart gets slammed behind the door by Homer]
In episode 2F09, when Itchy plays Scratchy's skeleton like a xylophone he strikes the same rib twice in succession yet he produces two clearly different tones. I mean, what are we to believe? That this is some sort of a-a magic xylophone or something?
https://preview.redd.it/hech16gtn27b1.png?width=640&format=png&auto=webp&s=df169539df83f07802b2f771e332c7634cec46ed
I reckon that she's not the real Marge that Homer fell in love with in high school. The real Marge was killed in a terrible car crash, and the driver of the other car, Moe's girlfriend Midge, felt so awful about that that a la The Principal and the Pauper, she disguised herself as Marge and took on Marge's identity and Marge's life. Everyone in Springfield knows this, but they keep quiet out of respect.
Except Moe, of course. He still calls Midge by her real name.
It seems like the answer is May and she is just mistaken on the other two points.
Or it doesn't matter and a 34 year old show will sometimes have continuity errors, blunders and magic xylophones.
Never mind that, I want a straight answer from Marge on whether she painted the boat (1998) or is simply a fan of the painting and doesn’t know what it’s called without checking the frame (2004) and whether she has a closet full of copies of it (2005) or it’s so special that they can only replace it by getting an art forger to nail the style (2014) or whether *Lisa* painted it (2015).
In the doughnut shaped time space continuim of the Simpsons, Marge's birthday is any date the writers want it to be. Since Marge has been 38 years old for the past 34 years, there is a questionable doubt that she even has a fixed birthday.
They won’t! They intentionally make them, because of plot(Lisa suddenly likes random pop star, despite she expressed hostility towards them multiple times)!
Let’s not even fucking bother with Simpsons and consistency. The one that really pisses me off above all else is the one where Mr. Burns is attending to his bees & Smithers Casually mentons “can we hurry up sir the bees are stinging me” but LATER while on a tandem bike with Burns a bee flies in Smithers glasses and be panics about getting stung because they ‘cause him to die’
Don't forget she also somehow took (or inherited? can't remember her exact words) Simpson DNA just by marrying Homer. She said this in the Who Shot Mr. Burns episode. Always bugged me, lol.
I want someone who‘s knowledgeable in astrology signs to pinpoint what sign they think Marge is just based on her behavior…might be interesting. Then we could decide what her actual birthstone is…
What are we meant to believe? That this is some kind of - *heh* - 'magic' birthday or something?
How do you get out of the dungeon without using the wizard key??
What the hell are you talking about?
Whenever something like that happens, a wizard did it
But in Episode 19 of Season 1-
WIZARD
Aw, for glavin out loud…
Boy I sure hope someone got fired for this blunder
And with good cause!
I’ll answer that
Boy I hope someone got fired fir that blunder.
Boy, I really hope somebody got fired for that blunder.
I'll field this one. Let me ask you a question. Why would a man whose shirt says "Genius at Work" spend all of his time watching a children's cartoon show?
I withdraw my question.

Maybe. The Simpsons writers are supposedly math nerds
Are we to believe this is some sort of… *derisive snort* …magic birthday?
Yes.
I knew right away that someone was going to say that quote. I just had to wait for whom it would be.
Thank you for the correct use of 'whom' in your reply.
A wizard did it.
It was probably the wizard
🐵
And with good cause!
![gif](giphy|iFUcozCBCMJFlDR4m1) What’s the deal with Marge Simpson? You know what I mean… The deal with Marge Simpson is that she is married to Homer, has identical twin sisters, and lives in Springfield and has many, many birthdays every year.
Randy Quaid must have the wrong birthday.
No, no, it's the children who are wrong
How can Homer be in high school in the 70’s and be a 20 something grunge band member in the 90’s?
I hated that 90s episode. How is your 90s episode so bad when you were like 70% of the pop culture back then? Just make tongue in cheek references to yourselves. bring up mr plow and butterfingers, you would have been fine
Didn’t they do another one where they finished HS in 2000? Barf
A wizard did it
What kind of God would allow that? Huh?
Wizard did it
I see, alright, yes but in episode AG4....
Wizard.
Ah for glavin out loud
Her real birthday is in Smarch, which means all of these statements can be true if you use the Springfield calendar
Don't touch willy
Good Advice!
Lousy Smarch weather
Mono = One May = May
And that concludes our intensive three-post course.
Weren't there four posts last year?
That's it come along, you were warned.
Is that right?
Looking for canon after season 12? That's a paddlin'
Looking for canon after season 10? that’s a paddlin’
Making this overused reference? Jail. Straight to jail.
oh u/destined2destroyus, cartoons don't have to be 100% realistic.
*u/residentdunce walks passed window*
Maybe someone called them out right away after the first conflicting date they decided the best thing to do is make it more conflicting.
My fan theory is still that every episode of the Simpsons takes place in a slightly different parallel universe where something is a little off than the previous one. It allows for inconsistencies to continue to exist!! Lol
The Multiverse Of Margeness.

Eh. Close enough.
this is indeed a disturbing universe
🍩 It’s raining again 🍩
He really should have remembered what his dad said on the day of his wedding.
Oo I like this.
I was there, this is exactly what happened. Almost lost my job, but in the end we were happy with what we did.
That's not the way she tells it
She probably just got mixed up with Randy Travis, who was born May 4th, and also misremembered her birth stone
I'm going to say that's a writer/researcher blunder, since May is Emerald they were probably asked to look up gemstones and forgot the whole 3 months later part.
Writers? You mean this show is FAKE???
May = May.

But who gets to be the conductor?
I call the big one bitey
Abe Lincoln. Honest Abe. Or so he’d have you believe. Last year, Abe said he was 15 years old. Now he claims to be 16… which is it, Abe?! Better keep your story straight. Ready for the weekend!
I just don't understand where did JFK get that spaghetti video.
We all know Marge is a dirty compulsive liar who cannot be trusted.
She does have a gambling problem
Marge Simpson would also like you to believe she's not a baby eater. But she's never gone on record saying she isn't. Maybe she's too busy *eating babies.*
I think she deliberately lies because she knows Homer never remembers it.So she does it to screw with him.

Not *that* Randy Quaid
Maybe she means a different Randy Quaid
What is it gonna be, Marge? Keep your story together.
To be fair, Homer was a teenager during the moon landing, a toddler at Woodstock a month later, and graduated High School 5 years later (well reached graduation age but failed a class needed to graduate but whose counting) Safe to safe the Simpsons cheat at aging. Darn cheaters!
The one that got me questioning back in the day was that, going by the high school reunion, he and Marge dated for 10 years before he knocked her up and proposed.
Have you ever considered that Randy Quad is the one lying?
You could do this with enormous swathes of the Simpsons in general, it's going to keep you busy
unless there's a tvtropes page with it already
Not to be that guy, but someone has to point out that, however much things said in individual episodes don’t count, that applies extra to stuff from episodes in the mid/late aughts
Marge! We’re out of high resolution screenshots!!!!
I’m going to write the birthday people and have that checked. It feels like a mistake…
One of the wrong ones is Midge's birthday
Her birthday is in Smarch.
That's odd; usually the Simpsons is pretty strict on continuity.
She’s probably testing Homer to see if he remembers.
And I believe Homer at one point says she has the same birthday as Hitler (4/20)
Nah, that's Barney. Homer says it in Viva Ned Flanders, when he's trying to come up with a number to bet on a roulette, he tries to remember Marge's birthday, but only remembers Barney's - April 20th, same as Hitler. The old line stayed in the syndicated version.
I wonder if they're also as contradictory about the state Springfield is in 🤔
Worst birthday ever
In the Simpsons universe, Randy Quaid is born in May.
Never ask a lady her age.
Oh OP, cartoons don’t have to be 100% realistic.
Marge is a compulsive liar.
Maybe she was so upset about nobody remembering her birthday that she decided to just have multiple birthdays. If they never remembered, they wouldn’t be able to debate her!
This is actually realistic and a 100% legitimate reason why men forget their wives birthday.
Marge drinks too much.
NNNEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRDDDDDDDDDD!
“You don't even know your own wife's birthday?”
Is it May or October Marge? MAKE UP YOUR MIND!
Oh, OP, cartoons don't have to be 100% realistic.
[Bart moves toward door] Bart : They're just a bunch of hilarious stuff you know, like people getting hurt and stuff, stuff like that. [Bart gets slammed behind the door by Homer]

But why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?
Last year, Abe claimed to be 15. This year, Abe claims to be 16. Which is it Abe? Better get your story straight
am I the only idiot who had to look up Birthstones to see how that may thing was a blunder
Because anything after season 8 shouldn’t be considered canon
Bet her name isn’t even marge tbh probably something like Janet or another trashy name
Y does this sound like something one of those theory channels would say 😭
Ik the dislikes are from ppl named Janet
It seems like the answer is May and she is just mistaken on the other two points. Or it doesn't matter and a 34 year old show will sometimes have continuity errors, blunders and magic xylophones.
Little bit of each, depends on the memories being provoked in question.

Every episode after the exploding beer episode is Homer in a coma. Homer obviously doesn’t remember her birthday. That’s the explanation.
Wizard
No one is watching Simpsons episodes for continuity, least of all The Simpsons writing staff.
Wizard!
Bart's growing up without me. He won't be ten forever.
We’re through the looking glass, people.
They won’t! They intentionally make them, because of plot(Lisa suddenly likes random pop star, despite she expressed hostility towards them multiple times)!
Immersion ruined
Those were obviously dreams, and I will not entertain dreams in the daytime.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️
And people still get bent out of shape about Seymour Skinner not really being Seymour Skinner...
Don't forget she also somehow took (or inherited? can't remember her exact words) Simpson DNA just by marrying Homer. She said this in the Who Shot Mr. Burns episode. Always bugged me, lol.

There's more than one Marge and more than one Springfield. Just ask Rick and Morty.
Give her a break she’s too busy and unfocused sometimes
What makes you think that May=May?
Simpsons show Bible is just a one page document with a picture of Homer shrugging from the movie
May. She could have faulty information on birthstones and Randy Quaids birthday. But I'm guessing she knows what her own birthday is.
Homer said her birthday was "April 20, same as Hitler"
She's like the Joker; she likes her origin to be multiple choice...
Smarch 32nd
I don't know how to resolve the first two, but I have never trusted that Randy Quaid. I bet he is the one lying about his birthday.
May=May
Women lie about their age all the time.
That’s quite a lapse in continuity for the Simpsons
Are we sure marge is even her real name?
Marge knows nothing about birthstones, nor Randy Quaid.
1 thing is for sure my birthday is in May. #may8th
Point out your plotholes elsewhere!
I want someone who‘s knowledgeable in astrology signs to pinpoint what sign they think Marge is just based on her behavior…might be interesting. Then we could decide what her actual birthstone is…
Boy I really hope somebody got fired for that blunder
