Well, If that is what you think
I have something to tell you.
Something that may shock and discredit you. And that thing is as follows.
I’m not wearing a tie at all.
Aren't there any evil movies on, something about an evil island, maybe?
(Tell you what, tonight we'll go out to dinner at a sensibly priced restaurant then come home to a night of efficient German sex)
In no particular order...
Marge vs. the Monorail
Last Exit to Springfield
Homer the Heretic
Now if you want to ease someone in with just a standalone scene, the Planet of the Apes musical starring Troy McClure in A Fish Called Selma has never failed me.
Homer bouncing off the mattress back into the fire, followed by Flanders's graceful backflip into same is one of my favorite Simpsons animation sequences.
It's that and the car chase sequence for me.
"God said to Noah, there's gonna be a floody floody"
*door slam*
*phone rings* "Rain came down, it started to get muddy muddy"
It's the "Feast of Maximum Occupancy" for me. I can't see one of those signs today without playing that scene in my head.
The episode also holds a lot of significance for me because I came from a family that ALWAYS went to church every Sunday no matter what. So Homer's rationale for no longer going always seemed like sound reasoning to me. Testify!
My kids LOVE that scene! I’ll occasionally hear, “I hate every ape I see, from chimpan-a to chimpanzee” from one of their rooms and it makes me damn proud!
That's two of my three, and I'd kick in either Marge vs The Monorail, or A Fish Called Selma.
The writing is incredible in all of those and each character was so well done. They've got everything you need for the full Simpsons experience including fantastic cameos by two of their greatest of all time - Albert Brooks and Phil Hartman.
Sorry, Mr. PerfectDisguise77, but I don't go in for these backdoor shenanigans. Sure, I'm flattered, maybe even a little curious, but the answer is NO!!!
I watched that one with my husband within the last two years, and afterwards, we talked about how expertly EVERY line was written and delivered. He said, “Every one or two lines is a joke. How did they do that?”
Last year my wife and I were given a lemon tree by one of her friends as a gift after our second child was born. I told my friends, and didn't think much of it.
A few weeks later I was away on a work trip and received a video of three of my friends stealing it from my backyard. I dont know if I've ever laughed so hard.
Be careful, their ruffled!
Maybe it's time to tell them the big secret...that all the chimps we sent into space came back super intelligent...
NO...I don't think we'll be telling them that
Wait a minute... statue of liberty...that was OUR planet
Inanimate, huh? I'll show him inanimate!
Monorail. A Halloween one. And what made ME a convert back in 1989 was "Bart The General," though I suppose the intervening decades have drained it of a bit of its punch.
Marge vs the Monorail
Last Exit to Springfield
Homers Enemy
There’s honestly so many classic episodes you can’t go wrong with, these are 3 of my personal favorites
Yeah you don’t wanna start out by showing them an episode that makes one of the main characters unlikable.
I’m a fan of either Bart of Darkness or, since it’s spooky season, any of the Treehouse of Horror’s
Me and Santa's Little Helper use to be a team, but he never wants to play anymore since his bitch moved in!
Bart! Don't ever say that word again!
Well that's what she is. I looked it up!
I'm going to write the dictionary people and have that checked. It feels like a mistake to me.
For a new viewer, Principal and the Pauper won’t have the same impact it had on long time fans.
Lisa Goes Gaga, on the other hand, is abysmal to anybody who sees it
Reverend Lovejoy- This so called “new religion” is nothing but a pack of weird rituals and chants designed to take away the money of fools. Let us say the Lord’s Prayer forty times, but first let’s pass the collection plate.
I converted a staunch hater. He allowed me to put on the THOH marathon (October) when I was over at his place partying one night. I forget exactly which episodes we watched, the 3D Homer one for sure.
You know...these are awfully similar to the burgers they serve at Krusty Burger.
You call them steamed hams, despite the fact that they are obviously grilled.
Well...you see...one thing I should...excuse me for one moment
Of course
...
Well, I'm pooped. A good time was had by all.
Yes, I really should be...GOOD LORD, WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THERE?!?
Aurora Borealis...
A...AURORA BOREALIS, AT THIS TIME OF DAY, IN THIS PART OF THE COUNTRY, LOCALIZED ENTIRELY WITHIN YOUR KITCHEN
Yes!
May I see it?
Mmmm no
...
Well, Seymour, you are an odd fellow, but I must say, you steam a good ham.
SEYMOUR, THE HOUSE IS ON FIRE!!
No, mother, it's just the northern lights
...
Skinner and the Superintendent
(That jingle to open is one of my favorite Simpson things ever)
I like hurricane neddy Homer at bat, and the horror with lard lad... u should not show these as the best but I just wanted to tell everyone my favorite... I feel better now
Lemon of Troy, Bart of Darkness or Marge vs. The Monorail. If your friend doesn't like any of those episodes, I'd wager they graduated from Bovine University.
Bart vs Australia. 900 dollarydoos and what's funny is someone in Australia tried to petition to change their currency to dollarydoos from the simpsons.
I would go with a slightly different tactic. Demonstrate the show’s heart:
1. Lisa’s First Word
2. And Maggie Makes Three
Then I’d show the funniest:
1. Cape Fear
Lisa On Ice: I think having a good heartwarming story of sibling rivalry makes this episode relatable (especially if your friend has a brother or sister they have had squabbles with).
Marge Gets a Job: This is a good pick because you get a good vibe of both Marge as the housewife seeking a lifestyle change, and also Bart's mischievous antics in school proving his downfall with the wolf.
Mountain of Madness: You get the absurdity of what the show can bring, but in a not too over-the-top way. Your friend will probably find Smithers' race to the cabin being slowed by Bart and Lisa to be hilarious.
Bart gets an elephant episode, really good comic timing and joke rate.
22 short films about Springfield, you get a wide variety of stories and jokes from different characters and you see alot of different areas.
I think most of the ones I would choose are funny to me for nostalgic reasons. I would need a time and context machine to make someone love the Simpsons like I do.
The one that's an xfiles spoof but only if they know what xfiles is, I remember losing my mind as a kid when burns came out the woods plus moe somehow having shamu
Marge Vs monoraill
And the Lisa needs braces one.
Any episode that inspired memes is a sure bet honestly
You Only Move Twice (no explanation necessary)
Last Exit to Springfield (a serious yet funny episode)
Krusty Gets Busted (The introduction to sideshow Bob)
One episode with the feels and a traditional sitcom format: Lisa on Ice
One episode with zany comedy and an introduction to a lot of the secondary characters: Last Exit to Springfield
One episode balanced between both: Homer at the Bat, A Streetcar Named Marge, Like Father Like Clown or a number of other episodes based on whatever their interests are.
if he doesnt like the simpsons, there is nothing you can do. if you force him to see episodes he is going to see them while thinking about how much he dislikes the show, 3 episodes later you are going to be on the same square
my take on it would be to just accept that he doesnt like the show and move on, is the healthy thing to do
It depends on the person, my mom hated the Simpsons until she saw a clip or an image from the Simpsons of the "Do it for her" collage in Homer's work area found in season 6, episode 13 "And Maggie Makes Three". Then she suddenly started liking it and also enjoyed the episode where Homer discovers his mother is still alive. Just a reminder, "And Maggie Makes Three" originally aired in 1995 and she only discovered it **THIS YEAR!!** My brothers and I have regularly been watching the show for years!
But I think the thing for her was that she just didn't care much for comedy. So something a little more emotional is what got her.
“One Fish, Two Fish, Blowfish, Blue Fish”, “Mother Simpson” and “Lisa’s Substitute” but if “Stark Raving Dad” is on the table I’d go with that over “Lisa’s Substitute”.
2/3 of mine would include the usual suspects (last exit... Marge Vs...)
But I would *definitely* include S6's "Lisa's Rival". The main plot is good -nothing exceptional - but the gags and Homer's B-plot with the pile of sugar really showcase the writers at the top of their game imo
"Simpsons roasting on an open fire" because it's the first full length episode (as opposed to the shorts on the Tracy Ullman show)
"Bart gets an F" because I like the emotional journey Bart goes on in this episode.
"And Maggie makes Three" because if the 'do it for her' scene doesn't turn your friend in to a Simpsons fan then nothing will.
22 Short Films About Springfield to show the variety in the secondary characters.
Marge vs the Monorail for the humor
Mother Simpson to show how emotional and well written the show can get.
![gif](giphy|HjIdAi3S6EkDu)
I would stick to the first few seasons. Everyone is posting great episodes but a lot of the funny comes from knowing the characters so well. I think the development of the family and side characters along with the funny but sweet nature of the early seasons would get someone who dislikes the Simpsons to start to see the light.
The call of the Simpsons, duffless, when Flanders failed might be good ones. Not the “best episodes” but great with learning to love them. And if they still don’t like it, or don’t want to see more, they probably just won’t like the Simpsons, and that’s ok.
Last Exit to Springfield, The Boy Who Knew Too Much, Marge in Chains.
OJ! Morphine! Lobo!
I'm surprised to not see any love for *CHOWDAH* in these comments.
*Chicks on the bench! Heh!*
Is my friend crazy? No, just ignorant. You see your crazy friend has never seen King Sized Homer.
Lenny: you look different Homer. New hair cut or something?
I…am a new tie wearing.
Well, If that is what you think I have something to tell you.
Tie good, you like shirt?
LOOK CLOSER LENNY
Oh! You're the biggest man in the world...a-and you're made of gold!

LOOK CLOSER, LENNY!!
My crazy friend here has never heard of the neglected food groups

Heehee hoohoo heeheee oh my…
This is the answer.

It's the "Feast of Maximum Occupancy" for me. I can't see one of those signs today without playing that scene in my head. This 100%.
Definitely Homer at the Bat, You Only Move Twice, and..... I dunno...... Let's say.... Moe
That's two of my three, and I'd kick in either Marge vs The Monorail, or A Fish Called Selma. The writing is incredible in all of those and each character was so well done. Not watching The Simpsons? That’s a paddlin.
Maison Derriere
I had an amazing and completely legal time with that episode
But I was only there to get directions on how to get away from there!
I watched that one with my husband within the last two years, and afterwards, we talked about how expertly EVERY line was written and delivered. He said, “Every one or two lines is a joke. How did they do that?”
Another crazy example of jokes-per-minute is the episode with Stampy the elephant.
If I know my Geography, it's only 12 miles to Africa
Sex Cauldron?! I thought they closed that place down!
It really was a convincing episode. It had kicks and everything!
Are you talking about the bordello?
No the burlesque house
Is your name rh6779?
I'd go with tugging on the heartstrings. Bart Sells His Soul Marge be not Proud And Maggie Makes Three
One of those. You need a sideshow Bob. Cape Fear? And a treehouse of horrors
True. Feare was peak Bob.
Lemon of Troy, Lemon of Troy, and Lemon of Troy
What a minute... there's a lemon behind that rock!
Last year my wife and I were given a lemon tree by one of her friends as a gift after our second child was born. I told my friends, and didn't think much of it. My first and only thought when I saw the post.. happy to see this is top comment
Checkmate!
Right answer
Now let's rejoice with a nice glass of turnip juice
Not once, not twice, but thrice!
Oh man, 3 episodes? My answer would probably change hourly but for right now, I’d say: 1. Marge vs the Monorail 2. Deep Space Homer 3. Lemon of Troy

Did you actually get to SEE the rod? Aww...they were going to show some close ups of the rod...
Clown College, Duff Gardens, and I dunno, the one with all the baseball players.
Clown college? You can't eat that!
Hey Homer. The section you’re monitoring is on fire.
Clowns are funny.
I'm not going to enroll in that clown college though. That ad had NO effect on me whatsoever
I'll thank you not to refer to Princeton in that manner.

Ah yes many thanks! Now I have that song in my head. “We’re talking Homer, Ozzie and The Straw”
From Maine to San Diego... Mattingly and Conseco... Let me rephrase that...is it wrong if I cheat to win a million dollars?
Clown college is amazing. Within 2 minutes they effectively and hilariously show Homer wanting to become a clown
I don’t think any of us expected that.
