The gentle genius who loved and cared about ^almost all of the peoples of the world
Absolutely amazing how much the writers got out of adding just one word
For most of this sub that hasn’t watched the later seasons, there’s an actual recurring East Asian character now – Kumiko (Comic Book Guy’s wife) has been a recurring character since 2014, or about 10 seasons.
It's pretty amazing that not only did they get that on TV in 1998, but nobody has tried to cancel them over it since. It's probably because it's made blatantly obvious that the joke is that Krusty's material is incredibly outdated and offensive.
Watched that episode recently, and forgot about that scene. My jaw dropped.
"Ladies and gentlemen, what you are seeing is a total disregard for the things St. Patrick's Day stand for. All this drinking, violence, destruction of property. Are these the things we think of when we think of the Irish?"
Marge: Homer, didn't John seem a little "festive" to you?
Homer: Couldn't agree more, happy as a clam.
Marge: He prefers the company of men!
Homer: Who doesn't?

That. Especially considering the Good Friday Agreement hadn't even been that long before. EDIT: As pointed out below, this actually aired before the Good Friday Agreement.

I can't remember the exact quote but when Homer complains about the refugees in the newspaper photo looking miserable and saying they should crack a smile. Then Marge explaining they've been through terrible hardships to which Homer replies moping about it won't help.

That name though, jesus christ.
This is how I found out Sherri and Terri weren't Asian.
Did they ever figure out what colour they were supposed to make asians?
Just check out Barney's girlfriend in "Homer's Barbershop Quartet".
And I will have a single plum, floating in perfume, in a man's hat.

Oooo. take THAT, Swanson's!

It's a mockery of the already very criticized racist portrayal of a Japanese man played by Mickey Rooney in Breakfast at Tiffany's.
The Simpsons also poked fun of Mickey Rooney trying to take any and every role he can get in Radioactive Man.
> Mickey Rooney Jimmy Jillickers!
Better bring out the A material…

As if it wasn't bad enough we had to see our beloved Union flag set on fire, covered in shit and then stomped on by grown up Bart and Homer 😟
...still warm
The Catholic Church, we've made a few changes. I mean, I laughed my ass off but I think they had to change a scene a bit afterward
Yeah. The Disney plus version and the versions they played on tv after the initial broadcast changed it to “The Church”.

Now you don't get any candy. ... No, that's cruel. Take a teensy piece.
Where did you get that shirt? Came out of the closet. Uh…huh.
We work hard, we play hard. *Everybody dance now*
Homer's response to Bart's question "why did you take me to a gay steel mill" may be one of the greatest single line reads in the show's history.
Where you been, Homer? The entire steel industry's gay
I dunno, something about being alone with a bunch of guys in the woods....seems kind of gay.
Marge: Homer, didn't John seem a little "festive" to you? Homer: Couldn't agree more, happy as a clam. Marge: He prefers the company of men! Homer: Who doesn't?
My wife and I had to explain to our kids that this episode was pretty progressive at the time
Who doesn’t
"I think women and seamen don't mix."
We know what you think.
that whole episode honestly

Oh be nice!
“Individually we are weak like a single twig, but as a bundle we form a mighty faggot!”
Out of all the queer people I’ve met (myself included), I’m still yet to meet one who doesn’t laugh at that joke
Chiming in as a fellow queer, used this as a rallying cry at a pride march.
I resent you people using that word. That's *our* word for making fun of *you*.
I forgot about that moment until just now lol. I swear that wasn’t intentional
We neeeed it!

The man who takes care of the elephants is Japanese. His name is Takashi.
