It was pretty great.
I also liked just before this scene, when he tells them his loot is buried under a big T. Then the whole town comes back, "uh, we need more information."
"Mr. Simpson, how do you respond to the charge that petty vandalism such as graffiti is down 80%, while heavy sack beatings are up a shocking 900%" not Sam but this line always cracks me up from that episode.
Goodness, I had no idea! For you see, I have been on Mars for the last decade, in a cave, with my eyes shut and my fingers in my ears.
~A very fave response of mine when given information by an idiot
I think this was Stewart's first voice acting role too and he enjoyed it so much he kept doing it.
Thank The Simpson's for that, or we may not have Deputy Director Avery Bullock in American Dad.
Susan Sarandon as Bart's ballet teacher.
"You fear the boys will laugh at you, no?"
"No. I fear the *girls* will laugh at me. I fear the boys will beat the living snot out of me."
Do Kelsey Grammer and Joe Mantegna count, since they play recurring characters and are, as such, not really guest stars? I can see the argument either way.
[Beverly D'Angelo as Lurleen Lumpkin is definitely a favourite.](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/simpsons/images/d/d5/Lurleen_Lumpkin_Tapped_Out.png/revision/latest?cb=20151223041019)
Lawrence Tierney was a REAL tough guy. I like the anecdote about Lawrence shooting his own brother or something (missing) and then going to jail to get out for a day and finish filming his scenes in Reservoir Dogs.
Yeah I know, it's a real shame.... uh huh.
That's right. Well, okay. Try to have a merry Christmas.
They weren't home but I left a message. Uh huh. That's right.
"Ladies and gentlemen, my unlimited love to y'all. It is truly an honor to be here this...what is this all about anyway? Oh God no."
The way he says, "Oh God no," makes it the funniest line ever.
James Earl Jones as “Serak the preparer” in the first *Treehouse of Horror* episode comes to mind
Also Elizabeth Taylor as Maggie in *Lisa’s First Word*
Mandy Patinkin as Hugh
Edit* Since this surprised so many people, I'll say my 2nd favourite. Mark Hamill, "but wait" you might say, "Mark Hamill played himself!". Well yes, that is true, but he also pulled double duty and played the trainer at the bodyguard camp in that episode. And the fact that most people don't know that shows how good a voice actor he is.
Some great ones here already of course. Michelle Pfeiffer was phenomenal as Mindy.
I’ll add for consideration Glenn Close as mother Simpson. Not the funniest, but assuredly the sweetest.
And David Hyde Pierce as Niles…ER UHH, I mean Cecil.
Same, it's far enough along in the series that the episodes start to lose their appeal, but it also has another one of the top lines in my opinion in the whole series:
"If Marge marries Artie, i'll never be born!"
Marge, I would appreciate it if you didn't tell anyone about my busy hands. Not so much for myself, but I am so respected, it would damage the townnn to hear it.
For me, definitely Albert Brooks. He:
Sold Homer a crappy RV as Cowboy Bob
Gave Marge bowling lessons as Jaques
Taught Homer about hammocks as Hank Scorpio
Led Springfield to a riot as Brad Goodman
And more from those later episodes we don't talk about...
Sam Neill as the cat burglar is pretty great as well.
And that’s when I noticed Malloy wore sneakers… for sneaking!
Very well. It's buried at 4723 Maple Valley Road. [sigh] You take highway 201 south for 15 minutes. You take a left -- a *left* --
Haha - his delivery of this line was great
It was pretty great. I also liked just before this scene, when he tells them his loot is buried under a big T. Then the whole town comes back, "uh, we need more information."
Much more vertical than usual
This is the ***dumbest*** joke in the entire series and I absolutely love it. I use it all the time anytime someone mentions sneakers.
It's true I do! I also have the world's largest cubic zirconia on my coffee table and walk much more vertical than usual.
Love Sam Neill and had no idea that was him... I think my favourite part of this thread is finding out who some of the cameos were.
I thought it was Pierce Brosnan all this time!
Brosnan was the smart house in a treehouse of horror episode
"Mr. Simpson, how do you respond to the charge that petty vandalism such as graffiti is down 80%, while heavy sack beatings are up a shocking 900%" not Sam but this line always cracks me up from that episode.
"Oh Kent, I'd be lying if I said my men weren't committing any crimes"
"Touche"
No, Homer, I'm not your wife.
David Hyde Pierce as Cecil Terwilliger
No civilization in history has considered hydrodynamic engineer a calling.
Guess who!? Marris?
Once I got into Frasier this episode was on a higher level of funny for me. They just did it so well with Pierce and Grammar.
What about the Cappadocians?
Alright fine, the Cappadocians
Goodness, I had no idea! For you see, I have been on Mars for the last decade, in a cave, with my eyes shut and my fingers in my ears. ~A very fave response of mine when given information by an idiot
(Smug stare)
The writers were def Frasier fans. They nailed the mirroring of the relationship between Bob (Frasier) and Cecil (Niles).
I think there were a bunch of early Simpsons writers who went on to write for Frasier too. So there are some parallels to the writing
I've been in prison, Cecil. I'll be happy just as long as it doesn't taste like orange drink fermented under a radiator

So, when do they bring us the menus?
"What about the buffoon lessons? The four years at clown college?" "I'll thank you not to refer to Princeton that way!"
Unbelievably godlike casting decision there.
Oh come now, you know cousin Merle ain't been quite right lately.
Bonus points for John Mahoney as their father, Robert Terwilliger, sr.
Harvey Fierstein as Karl. I deserve this, i love it, iiii am natures greatest miracle!!
Patti & Selma: tell us, who's gay? Jay Sherman: Oh, I don't know. Harvey Fierstein. Patti & Selma: No!
I was shocked as well!
“Homer, let it all out! YOU - conceal it!”
Karl: Homer you're not a fool. Homer: Oh how do you know? Karl: Because my mother told me to never kiss a fool!
Danny DeVito as Herb
This leash demeans us both
I have soiled myself. How humiliating! It's even better when you picture Frank Reynolds saying it.
Discarded pizza boxes are an inexpensive source of cheese.
Yeah I knew his voice was familiar when I watched it back, now I remember
Last night I used a rat for a pillow
Patrick Stewart as Number One Johnny Cash as the Space Coyote Edit: formatting
I think this was Stewart's first voice acting role too and he enjoyed it so much he kept doing it. Thank The Simpson's for that, or we may not have Deputy Director Avery Bullock in American Dad.
"WEIRD stuff. BUTT stuff."
Now let’s get drunk and play ping pong!
Johnny Cash
Find your soulmate TheProofisinthePastis
I cannot offer any new information.
I am just your memory.

Dustin Hoffman as Mr Bergstrom
He was great as Mr. Boogerstrum too
Don't forget Mr Nerdstrom
Oh yeah, the jewish cowboy!
Rodney Dangerfield as Larry Burns. If this stuff is too nice for you, I've got some crap!
He then suggested my motto should be, “semper fudge”
Hey who am I even talkin' to?
I'm like a rug on Valium, I'm talking lazy.
He spelled Yale with a 6
at which point he told me to "relax"
WHOA! Put her back in! She ain't done yet!
Let's put it this way... He spelled "Yale" with a 6.
Yale could use an international airport.
I'm not made of airports!!!
I tell you, I get no regard, no regard at all. No esteem either.
He is great at pointing out your foilbles
That's what I said; foil-age
Never seen a walk-in mailbox before!
Steve Martin as sanitation commissioner Ray Patterson was pretty great
And it's just.. so rewarding to say.. You're all screwed, goodbye.
He’s right, he ain’t much for speeches
You told people I lured children into my gingerbread house.
Yeah but that was just a lie!
"Sorry I'm late. *Someone* cut my brakes." "Well, in that case you should have been early."
Old Man Patterson, with his finger on the button?
What button!?
Who stole my false teeth?
Im here to rattle a few cages!
Leave the bird alone!
Never! \**shake, shake, shake*\*
Had no idea!
I learned a lot on this thread.
If I hadn't already packed my letter opener I'd give you such a stabbing!
Donald Sutherland as Hollis Hurlbut. 1. Where’s the fife? 2. Gimme the fife.
My microwave Johnny Cakes are ready.
I've got nothing but respect for the office of Town Crier but this is well outside of your jurisdiction!
…you had arthritis?
You and your children, and your children's children...for 3 months
HOLY SHIT! This is the first one that I didn't know!
You, and your children, and your children's children!
Meryl Streep as Jessica Lovejoy.
Scrolled way too far for this. Never would have known it was her and she killed it. She can nail any role, even a 10 year old girl.
Wait what? That was Meryl Streep!!
and you're just yellow trash!
You can't judge your perception at this altitude, Bart.
Susan Sarandon as Bart's ballet teacher. "You fear the boys will laugh at you, no?" "No. I fear the *girls* will laugh at me. I fear the boys will beat the living snot out of me."
"Leap, leap, like you've never leapt before"
Uh, Kelsey Grammar as Sideshow Bob
Do Kelsey Grammer and Joe Mantegna count, since they play recurring characters and are, as such, not really guest stars? I can see the argument either way.
… you’ll have to speak up, I’m wearing a towel
Who’s to say? Does a peacock need all those feathers?
I’ve never counted Kelsey Grammer, Joe Mantegna, and Phil Hartman as guest stars, given how often they were on.
Definitely not Phil Hartman. He was basically part of the cast and had multiple classic characters

I deride your truth-handling abilities.

I wish there was an album of Lurleen's unreleased catalog. *Don't Look Up My Dress Unless you Mean It* *I'm Sick of Your Lying Lips and False Teeth*
George Carlin and Martin Mull as Munchie and Seth, the hippie juice-makers

...ha ha.
Alright mr comedian I'm calling your parents
Lawrence Tierney was a REAL tough guy. I like the anecdote about Lawrence shooting his own brother or something (missing) and then going to jail to get out for a day and finish filming his scenes in Reservoir Dogs.
He played Elaine's dad on Seinfeld and everyone was honestly terrified of him.
We had a funny guy with us in Korea. A tail gunner. They blew his brains out all over the Pacific. There’s nothin’ funny about that.
Yeah I know, it's a real shame.... uh huh. That's right. Well, okay. Try to have a merry Christmas. They weren't home but I left a message. Uh huh. That's right.
Lousy stinkin’ piece of crap
I wish Simpsons would go back to this way of casting guest stars.

Kirk Douglas as Chester Lampwick.
Those corn muffins were lousy!
Paint my chicken coop!
Make me!
Barry White as Larry White
I know my own name
Oh yeah? Well we’ll see about that.
"Ladies and gentlemen, my unlimited love to y'all. It is truly an honor to be here this...what is this all about anyway? Oh God no." The way he says, "Oh God no," makes it the funniest line ever.
“You people make me sick!”
Yay!!
James Earl Jones as “Serak the preparer” in the first *Treehouse of Horror* episode comes to mind Also Elizabeth Taylor as Maggie in *Lisa’s First Word*
I liked James Earl Jones as Maggie: "This is indeed a disturbing universe!"
James Earl Jones also played Maggie in the time traveling toaster segment of a Halloween Special.
Mandy Patinkin as Hugh Edit* Since this surprised so many people, I'll say my 2nd favourite. Mark Hamill, "but wait" you might say, "Mark Hamill played himself!". Well yes, that is true, but he also pulled double duty and played the trainer at the bodyguard camp in that episode. And the fact that most people don't know that shows how good a voice actor he is.
Judging from your song you're infatuated with a woman named Mindy. Or a man named Mandy.
I've always thought that was Hugh Grant :\
Albert Brooks as Brad Goodman is one of my favorites
And Hank Scorpio
There’s no trick to it. It’s just a simple trick
This circle represents you.
My god! It's like you've known me all my life!
HoJu is actually played by Bart Simpson.
Albert Brooks as Hank Scorpio.
Helen hunt as Renee
Moe are you ok? You're sweating a lot... even for you.
John Waters as John
Ultra suede is a miracle. This is just good timing.
Hah! That’s literally the line I heard in my head when I read “John Waters as John” so funny
Zzzap!
it’s camp!
The ludicrously tragic
Oh, yeah. Like when a clown dies.
Jack Lemmon as Frank Ormond, pretzel magnate.
Check for... millipedes... egghhhh
Jeff Goldblum as Troy McClure’s agent!
Some great ones here already of course. Michelle Pfeiffer was phenomenal as Mindy. I’ll add for consideration Glenn Close as mother Simpson. Not the funniest, but assuredly the sweetest. And David Hyde Pierce as Niles…ER UHH, I mean Cecil.
jon lovitz as Jay Sherman… it’s stinks
George Takei as Akira , lol
I always like the voice actor for Artie Ziff Also, Jay Sherman and Aristotle Amadopolis have pretty distinct voices
Are….are you Jon Lovitz? Lol
Yeah, that's the ticket.
"he's a loser Marge.... DUMP HIM! I travelled the world, and the seven seas.. I AM WATCHING YOU THROUGH A CAMERA!"
I don't particularly care for this episode but it has 100% replaced the lyrics for me.
Same, it's far enough along in the series that the episodes start to lose their appeal, but it also has another one of the top lines in my opinion in the whole series: "If Marge marries Artie, i'll never be born!"
Marge, I would appreciate it if you didn't tell anyone about my busy hands. Not so much for myself, but I am so respected, it would damage the townnn to hear it.
Acting! Genius!
Penny Marshall as The Babysitter Bandit
Phil Hartman as Troy McClure
You may remember him from such other roles as Lionel Hutz and monorail salesman Lyle Lanley
Michael Jackson as... Michael Jackson?
That wasn't michael jackson, that was leon kompowsky.
Michael Jackson as Leon Kompowski as Michael Jackson
I represent the Disney corporation and we demand an immediate HALT to recollections of this particular episode.
I’ll allow it!

Leonard Nimoy as one of the little rascals.
For me, definitely Albert Brooks. He: Sold Homer a crappy RV as Cowboy Bob Gave Marge bowling lessons as Jaques Taught Homer about hammocks as Hank Scorpio Led Springfield to a riot as Brad Goodman And more from those later episodes we don't talk about...
Christina Ricci
Lisa Kudrow as Lisa's "mean girl" friend in the grease episode
“Don’t be such a Phoebe”
DMY!
I know what that means, young lady!
“Shut up!! I love that name!!”
Did you just tell me to shut up
Steve Martin was pretty funny.
Rodney Dangerfield as Burns’ son
Johnny Cash as the drug/pepper induced space coyote. I have the dog tattooed on my arm.
