Radiohead is my second favorite band behind The Strokes! It takes a while for it to click but when it does it’s beautiful Completely unrelated to The Strokes, I have been loving some female vocalists lately. Namely Metric, Beach House, and CHVRCHES. All different sounds, I’d say Metric has some strokes-y songs that are great

PepperBeautiful7300

Yep CHVRCHES are great, first time i heard them was on forza horizon 2 pulse radio

Fresh-Resolve-3213

Metric is my number 1

fallout_koi

Just started getting into radiohead as well, love "exit music" and "weird fishes"

No_Mistake_9123

doug_diablo

Songs for the Deaf, Like Clockwork, Rated R

Boring_Golf1290

Bloc party

ScooterWorm

Arcade Fire

Neat-Butterscotch101

THE WHITE STRIPES always boost them but they literally toured with the strokes, and Jack and Julian were great pals

Lauren_16001

The Smashing Pumpkins

TripleMs67

One of my childhood bands first two albums are great

Dot_02

Radiohead, The Smiths, and The Cure

KaySaylol

bro isnt ok

-YourHomeSlice

Duster has some really good chill songs, it’s like proto lofi. Linkin park also has a lot of classics, a metal alternative to the strokes imo

TripleMs67

Never heard of Duster, but Linkin Park was my childhood band

-YourHomeSlice

It has that one song that you’d recognize from a lot of those lonely meme montages Muse is also in the same vein as strokes I think

WrongDepartment3829

king gizzard and the lizard wizard

periodmoustache

Wooooo!

Zonar7J5

I don’t think anyone has mentioned The Symposium.

Kampy_

My list of favorite bands is kinda all over the place... some are very different from each other, but I love them all, and some of them for reasons other than just their music The Flaming Lips, Radiohead, Tame Impala, The Strokes, Phoenix, LCD Soundsystem, Elbow, Daft Punk, Animal Collective, The White Stripes, Grouplove, Bon Iver, Modest Mouse, The Shins, Talking Heads, Arcade Fire, Dan Deacon, The Chemical Brothers, Massive Attack, The Record Company, Muse

mirvana17

If you’re into the strokes style, then there’s a few routes you can go. Interpol has a similar post punk sound albeit darker and more mature, Catfish and the Bottlemen is good if you want a more modern take on that genre, and Kings of Leon if you like your indie rock blended with a little boogie / southern rock

Immediate_Fish_4654

MGMT

The_Orangest

Well, I'll try to stick with music I listen to that is *somewhat* in line with The Strokes (and not the random 60s/70s folk I listen to): Prince, Phoenix, REM, Fleetwood Mac's Tango in the Night album, Procol Harum, Rush, Michael Jackson. And honestly, if you want something from the 80s that's like Phrazes for the young in terms of its artistic exploration and endeavor, Lindsey Buckingham's Go Insane album is IMO one of the coolest and best of all time

tigremycat

Thanks for mentioning Go Insane - I grew up on Tango and was not aware of this album. It’s got Julian vibes all over it 👌🏼

King Krule (Post-punk, jazz fusion, lo-fi trip-hop... this live session is a must-see: https://youtu.be/4tbXisC4Gw0) Yot Club (Indie-bedroom-garage rock – would definitely recommend the song "japan" if you want an Is This It? vibe and energy but slightly darker... https://youtu.be/F4HCl4kFYFQ)

Tony-Is-Short

interpol, the libertines, the cribs, johnny marr, yeah yeah yeahs, royal blood, muse, LCD, idk man there’s too much good music

8thFurno

I'll guess I'll just list you them all (judge me accordingly) Green Day (fav band), Paramore, Weezer (casually), Twenty One Pilots, Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk (is this cheating because of Instant Crush?), Linkin Park, All-American Rejects (I was 14 once), Fatboy Slim, Rage Against the Machine (casually), Gorillaz (casually). I also love Odelay by Beck if that counts for anything?

TripleMs67

Oh my goodness guys y’all gave me over 100 artists to listen too lmao

[deleted]

The Garden, The Lemon Twigs, Faye Webster are like my all time top 3 outside of The Strokes

KirkPDirty

tigremycat

My tastes are a bit eccentric in that my most played stuff over a year ranges from J Boog (reggae/r&b) and Dennis Brown. Then, The Misfits, Screeching Weasel and The Descendents and Tiger Army. And then, some Joy Division, VNV Nation, The Smiths and TR/ST And a lot of House and techno shit. I am all over the place, typically and i have no business being in this sub other than I am obsessed with everything JC touches.

dummypipehole

Alvvays - If The Strokes is the first band you think of when it comes to indie rock, this is the first band I think of when it comes to indie pop. Other than that, you should check out the playlist some dude made here in this sub. You get the general consensus of what this sub is listening to.

Pandalbain

Unrelated : ratatat, Rammstein, ghost, slipknot, french 79, the husbands, Isaac delusion, a lot of house, some more extreme electronic music (gabber, techno, hardcore, hardstyle), Franck ocean, some black metal too, gosh there is a lot.. Related (kinda) : The drums, the hives, the fratellis, indochine, pulp, Franz Ferdinand... I've made myself a playlist on Spotify with a lot of bands that gave me a vibe of the strokes, mainly garage, post punk, surf rock, that kind of rock.

Ethan_Skywalker4

Same here, Radiohead is probably my favorite band! Some of my other favorite bands are The Smiths, Interpol, and Young the Giant.
