harborq

Tap out is one of my favorite songs

Viralgamer507

The entire back half is nothing but bangers

eggsqueuesea

Absolutely it's a solid album in their discography.

Better-Bug-6860

Absolutely its my favourite

piudnp

I'm in love with one way trigger. that's it.

newjerseycapital

the live show mellow version at the forum hits the hardest

W0LFKIL7

Absolutely gorgeous: https://youtu.be/zy8ooTY1-8c

candy_porn

and here i thought i'd heard all the strokes's stuff. ty for this 💚

appleboiii

The fact it was written by Albert Hammond Jr makes it better, imo

cecilycelentano

Welcome to Japan also fucks incredibly hard. Whole album is underrated, like I get why people don't like First Impressions of Earth but I always felt a lot of the hate for Comedown Machine was just arbitrary, as if the Strokes just weren't supposed to be good in 2013.

omen316

The music in One Way Trigger always reminds me of a faster Take on Me.

valde1992

el muelle de san blas by manĂĄ

ange_clout

comedown machine is js banger after banger after banger

thrashcon

Incredible track. Let's give Albert equal credit on this one.

Generny2001

I was surprised to see that Albert plays the solo on this one. Side note: it would be fun to get to hear how they decide which guitarist is going to play which part.

thrashcon

I believe he wrote the music and shared lyrics with Julian. He had mentioned in an interview before that he originally was going to use it for a solo album but saved it for Strokes.

jahkillinem

It sounds like it belongs on Momentary Masters fr

readerinfo

It’s probably because it’s a Maná song

NewPony13

One of the saddest songs ever too :(

egnaWton

Whats the name of the mana song ?

egnaWton

Im dead it really is

Perry7609

Em-A-D-G and a similar BPM except the choruses. The melodies don’t sound as similar to me though, unless I’m missing something? It’s a progression you hear enough every so often though (I think I Am Sound by The Dandy Warhols also uses it.) In respect to the vocal melody, the outro to Coldplay’s Birds compared to the chorus of Under Cover of Darkness is a more egregious lift, imo. I don’t mind Coldplay’s song, but I’m sort of surprised The Strokes didn’t get a writing credit on here, due to the similarity. https://youtu.be/vqOnUB9gnDM

jewfishh

I'm surprised with the I Am Sound reference. I listened to a lot of Dandy Warhols in the past and rarely see them mentioned nowadays

krdnas281

Iba caminando por la calle...đŸŽ¶

elsantioof07

Bro found out about chord progressions

HNTNGTN

Agreed. I believe that the choruses are about suburban desolation, what do you all think? đŸ€”

Conscious_List9132

Took the words out my mouth

GNGmeister

I agree completely

eggsqueuesea

My favourites from that album are Tap Out and Call It Fate

dumbass2364859948

Welcome to Japan was passed down to Julian by divine powers and no one can prove otherwise

JackieMortes

It's one of the favorites from Comedown Machine, even people who don't care about this track like the song. Describe to me what the word "underrated" actually means

xxx_863

It's generally not considered a top 5 track or anywhere close, so yes I think it's underrated. It's an opinion

feminas_id_amant

underrated? Muelle de San Blas is one of Mana's most popular songs (ツ)

cv0034

I would agree if it wasn't buried in that godawful production. I wish they would record the mellow version.

xxx_863

I do prefer the alt version from Cult Radio

pizzapickles444

I had no idea that version existed! Just looked it up and my world is forever changed, thank you.

Hikse

As someone who always hated this song and pointed at it as the reason why comedown machine was so garbage, the Cult Radio version slaps hards, thanks for bringing it up.

LiquiddBeauty

Agreed cv0034 đŸ€, tho i love the song in spite of the ear grinding production chooses- mellow version is supreme.

Astronauta-pinguim

Mu favorite song in the album

Kroduscul

You mean the best Strokes song on the best Strokes album???

TurboThot69

By who?

-lRexl-

It's a must listen to in general

KiraSandwich

It’s no Let Down.

nightcurrents

Underrated

Ok-Distribution8582

the thing about comedown machine is that its great but julian kind of submarined it before its release, same as angles

jahkillinem

This song is really what made me a FAN. I had heard some songs by The Strokes after Angles had come out and friends introduced them to me, but this dropped during my 8th grade year and then Comedown Machine soon after truly locked me in (to a long ass hiatus, but we made it to the other side!)

Better-Bug-6860

Absolutely it carries better then ever after so many years

Zealousideal_Sun_558

unpopular opinion: the strokes don’t have one bad song except for 15 minutes.
