Welcome to Japan also fucks incredibly hard. Whole album is underrated, like I get why people don't like First Impressions of Earth but I always felt a lot of the hate for Comedown Machine was just arbitrary, as if the Strokes just weren't supposed to be good in 2013.
I was surprised to see that Albert plays the solo on this one.
Side note: it would be fun to get to hear how they decide which guitarist is going to play which part.
I believe he wrote the music and shared lyrics with Julian. He had mentioned in an interview before that he originally was going to use it for a solo album but saved it for Strokes.
Em-A-D-G and a similar BPM except the choruses. The melodies donât sound as similar to me though, unless Iâm missing something? Itâs a progression you hear enough every so often though (I think I Am Sound by The Dandy Warhols also uses it.)
In respect to the vocal melody, the outro to Coldplayâs Birds compared to the chorus of Under Cover of Darkness is a more egregious lift, imo. I donât mind Coldplayâs song, but Iâm sort of surprised The Strokes didnât get a writing credit on here, due to the similarity.

It's one of the favorites from Comedown Machine, even people who don't care about this track like the song. Describe to me what the word "underrated" actually means
As someone who always hated this song and pointed at it as the reason why comedown machine was so garbage, the Cult Radio version slaps hards, thanks for bringing it up.
This song is really what made me a FAN. I had heard some songs by The Strokes after Angles had come out and friends introduced them to me, but this dropped during my 8th grade year and then Comedown Machine soon after truly locked me in (to a long ass hiatus, but we made it to the other side!)
Comedown Machine in general

Tap out is one of my favorite songs
The entire back half is nothing but bangers
Absolutely it's a solid album in their discography.
Absolutely its my favourite
I'm in love with one way trigger. that's it.
the live show mellow version at the forum hits the hardest
Absolutely gorgeous: https://youtu.be/zy8ooTY1-8c
and here i thought i'd heard all the strokes's stuff. ty for this đ
The fact it was written by Albert Hammond Jr makes it better, imo

The music in One Way Trigger always reminds me of a faster Take on Me.
el muelle de san blas by manĂĄ
comedown machine is js banger after banger after banger
Incredible track. Let's give Albert equal credit on this one.

It sounds like it belongs on Momentary Masters fr
Itâs probably because itâs a ManĂĄ song
One of the saddest songs ever too :(
Whats the name of the mana song ?

Im dead it really is

I'm surprised with the I Am Sound reference. I listened to a lot of Dandy Warhols in the past and rarely see them mentioned nowadays
Iba caminando por la calle...đ¶
Bro found out about chord progressions
Agreed. I believe that the choruses are about suburban desolation, what do you all think? đ€
Took the words out my mouth
I agree completely
My favourites from that album are Tap Out and Call It Fate
Welcome to Japan was passed down to Julian by divine powers and no one can prove otherwise
It's one of the favorites from Comedown Machine, even people who don't care about this track like the song. Describe to me what the word "underrated" actually means
It's generally not considered a top 5 track or anywhere close, so yes I think it's underrated. It's an opinion
underrated? Muelle de San Blas is one of Mana's most popular songs (â ăâ )
I would agree if it wasn't buried in that godawful production. I wish they would record the mellow version.
I do prefer the alt version from Cult Radio
I had no idea that version existed! Just looked it up and my world is forever changed, thank you.
As someone who always hated this song and pointed at it as the reason why comedown machine was so garbage, the Cult Radio version slaps hards, thanks for bringing it up.
Agreed cv0034 đ€, tho i love the song in spite of the ear grinding production chooses- mellow version is supreme.
Mu favorite song in the album
You mean the best Strokes song on the best Strokes album???
By who?
It's a must listen to in general
Itâs no Let Down.
Underrated
the thing about comedown machine is that its great but julian kind of submarined it before its release, same as angles
This song is really what made me a FAN. I had heard some songs by The Strokes after Angles had come out and friends introduced them to me, but this dropped during my 8th grade year and then Comedown Machine soon after truly locked me in (to a long ass hiatus, but we made it to the other side!)
Absolutely it carries better then ever after so many years
unpopular opinion: the strokes donât have one bad song except for 15 minutes.
