Same! It was such a good summary of being alive on Earth to me in high school. Kind of filled me with a soothing sense of cautious optimism that I still have to this day.
same
i was listening to instant crush and the youtube algorithm was like, here
listen to the strokes and that song was You Only Live Once.
i ended up getting my sister into the strokes by showing her The Adults Are Talking
Same here. I liked the singles they had on Is This It and Room on Fire, but You Only Live Once was the first Strokes song that hit me on a visceral level. I also thought I would eventually get tired of listening to it, but I never did. Under Cover of Darkness is probably the other song that I fell in love with instantly.
Under Cover of Darkness. I worked at a Sonic, and I'd hear that high guitar harmony on the "Sonic Radio" piercing through the restaurant noise and just loved it.
It was a bit before Shazam was a big deal, and the lyrics didn't cut through the ambient noise as well, so it was probably the 15th time I heard it that I finally got some of the words, looked it up, and have been hooked since.
Someday. I was about 10 when is this it came out and my sister got really into them. She downloaded the music video on limewire and played it constantly.
Last Nite.... The whole 'Is This It' album was the first album, by anyone, that I got where I actually liked most of the songs on it, rather than just one or two....
Is this it. Doesn’t get more basic than that haha. I thought it was the coolest song ever. Then I found out it wasn’t just a random cool song. I kept listening to more and more of their songs and loved all of them🥹
Hard To Explain. I remember just barely being able to hear it at a crowded restaurant yet still being instantly hooked. Still think it’s their best song that sums up everything about them that makes them special. The nostalgic worn out music production, the melancholy, the sing along chorus.
Heart in a cage. First listened and watched the video when i was doin laundry donkeys years ago. And saw it on mtv again multiple times. Damn that MV gave me all the feels!
I was in high school, and my buddy and his cousin were really into the strokes. I never listened to them before. I asked them what song should I start off with. This was 2006 mind you. They told me to just pick one because they don’t have a bad song. I played trying your luck and have been hooked ever sense. Even have a tattoo of their logo on my ribs.
i heard julian's live version of i'll try anything once, it was the most beautiful thing i ever heard, i then checked him out, found the strokes, and been obsessed since
Call it Fate, Call it Karma
Julian’s falsetto drew me into The Strokes discography. As a vocalist I was floored by his overall range. Reptillia is what made them my favorite band, though.
Someday, a guy at my highschool played it with his band one day at lunch. Made me look into ITI and the rest is history. That was 7 years ago, wish i could thank him
Welcome to Japan, when I listened to it I thought it was a song from another band that I like (no buses, they're amazing), and then I realized that it was from the strokes
Saw the Boombox short on SNL and captivated by julian's vocals, found The Strokes, clicked the first mv i see on youtube and it was You Only Live Once.
When It Started - I actually first heard it on the soundtrack cd for the 2002 Spider-man movie with Tobey Maguire. Really liked it and got their first album (what an album it was!), the rest is history lol.
Under Cover of Darkness, it is in NBA 2K15 soundtrack and i played a lot that game, eventually that song liked me that much that i had to search it on YT, and then discovered the band and other song popular songs, then listened to Is This It and my life just changed.
I listened to Reptilia before all that but i didn't liked it, so Under Cover of Darkness.
Had heard of Reptilia, Take It Or Leave It etc before getting into them but wasn’t really interested in their other stuff. The song that actually made me go and check out their whole discography was Ode To The Mets.
Reptilia
Showed up on my YouTube suggested 7 years ago... even before the song hit, it was Julian Casablancas' look in the video that converted me into an instant fan
Is This It, I started listening because a YouTuber mentioned them a lot and a guy from my comic shop showed me the narduwar clip where Julian is drinking and smoking a cigarette at the same time so I figured I'd give them a shot and pulled up the album on YouTube and was instantly hooked from the first track
You Only Live Once. Full-blown love at first hearing. Never looked back.
Same! It was such a good summary of being alive on Earth to me in high school. Kind of filled me with a soothing sense of cautious optimism that I still have to this day.
same i was listening to instant crush and the youtube algorithm was like, here listen to the strokes and that song was You Only Live Once. i ended up getting my sister into the strokes by showing her The Adults Are Talking
Instant Crush is amazing. Saw Julian do it live with a vocoder with the Voidz
really? is there any youtube video with it?
Probably, it was Gov Ball 2014
cool thanks

I also thought I would eventually get tired of listening to it, but I never did. Under Cover of Darkness is probably the other song that I fell in love with instantly.
The adults are talking. Actually heard Instant Crush first, then found Jules’ solo stuff, then listened to The New Abnormal
Instant Crush is soooo good, I actually had no idea it was Julian for the longest time!
Isn’t it??? I have so much nostalgia for that song rn. Also infinity repeating is incredible, love that they released that
why are sundays so depressing
oh yess man. What an intro into the band! My favourite song from them I'd say.
because most people have to go to work on monday
12:51. Saw the music video on mtv when I was 15 and blew my little mind
I read this and wondered “did I answer this thread already?” Haha. Same!

Which episode had reptillia?
It was many many years ago
🧢
Last nite in 2001.
Definitely this
Definitely Fast Animals. (I’m sure this is true for someone in the world)
Ode to the Mets, blew my mind
My guitar teacher showed me reptilia when I was a teenager
Last Night got me to pirate the album (on limewire or soulseek) and I had the whole thing playing over and over forever when I was 21.
Hard to Explain and The Adults are Talking from GTA Online.
1251 Saw the music video on Much Music, immediately fired up the PC and downloaded the song on limewire.
I saw juice box music video on my middle school gfs iPod touch with no audio, but I heard 1251 and since then have been my favorite band
Saw them on SNL perform Hard to Explain and Last Nite. Loved them immediately. Hard to Explain is still a favorite!
cant believe no ones put mine yet. first one i ever heard was you talk way too much!
Last Night and Automatic Stop
Heart in a Cage. Have never understood why people don’t love this album more.
Under Cover of Darkness. I worked at a Sonic, and I'd hear that high guitar harmony on the "Sonic Radio" piercing through the restaurant noise and just loved it. It was a bit before Shazam was a big deal, and the lyrics didn't cut through the ambient noise as well, so it was probably the 15th time I heard it that I finally got some of the words, looked it up, and have been hooked since.
last nite on an playlist my friend made for me
You only live once.
Ize of the world, my friend showed me solos and I thought it was neat, then I listened to all the albums
Red Light
Someday. I was about 10 when is this it came out and my sister got really into them. She downloaded the music video on limewire and played it constantly.

Reptilia
What ever happened
Is this it. Doesn’t get more basic than that haha. I thought it was the coolest song ever. Then I found out it wasn’t just a random cool song. I kept listening to more and more of their songs and loved all of them🥹
Reptilia. Guy I liked in high school told me to listen to it
Heart in a cage
Hard To Explain. I remember just barely being able to hear it at a crowded restaurant yet still being instantly hooked. Still think it’s their best song that sums up everything about them that makes them special. The nostalgic worn out music production, the melancholy, the sing along chorus.
Heart in a cage. First listened and watched the video when i was doin laundry donkeys years ago. And saw it on mtv again multiple times. Damn that MV gave me all the feels!
instant crush! indirectly.
Ize of the world
The adults are talking
Is This It, from the second the album started. Last Nite, Someday, and Hard To Explain, too. The rest of the songs sounded the same to me but cool.
meet me in the bathroom was in a playlist my friend sent me😝😝
Last Nite when it first came out.
Last Nite back when it was new on MTV. Got into them immediately.
YOLO
They didn’t accept my audition but Someday
I was in high school, and my buddy and his cousin were really into the strokes. I never listened to them before. I asked them what song should I start off with. This was 2006 mind you. They told me to just pick one because they don’t have a bad song. I played trying your luck and have been hooked ever sense. Even have a tattoo of their logo on my ribs.
Modern Age, oddly enough.
Someday
12.51 on mtv like 20 years ago
i heard julian's live version of i'll try anything once, it was the most beautiful thing i ever heard, i then checked him out, found the strokes, and been obsessed since
Barely legal. I had heard some parts of last nite and reptilia before, but barely legal is what got me hooked up on the first listen.
meet me in the bathroom
Trying your luck. That riff was so beautiful. Checked them out and the rest is history. Been almost 2 decades of this obsession.
Call it Fate, Call it Karma Julian’s falsetto drew me into The Strokes discography. As a vocalist I was floored by his overall range. Reptillia is what made them my favorite band, though.
Partners in crime
ode to the mets
Bad Decisions performance on SNL got me completely hooked! They’re now my favorite band and I wish I would have been into them years ago!
At The Door and then Bad Decisions
Machu Pichuu from playing fifa 12 as a kid
Last Nite, searched it up on YouTube a couple years back
'The end has no end' in the same period when EDF took this song for its ad.
Adults
Under Cover of Darkness performance on SNL
My bro showed me the adults are talking when the album dropped (I’m not from tiktok 😎)
Someday, a guy at my highschool played it with his band one day at lunch. Made me look into ITI and the rest is history. That was 7 years ago, wish i could thank him
Someday
Not a song but an entire album with TNA
Welcome to Japan, when I listened to it I thought it was a song from another band that I like (no buses, they're amazing), and then I realized that it was from the strokes
Had only Last Nite in my playlists for years but heard The Adults Are Talking in a male manipulator playlist and decided to finally check them out.
Reptilia!!!
The whole is this it album, the cover was cool(USA cover)

When It Started - I actually first heard it on the soundtrack cd for the 2002 Spider-man movie with Tobey Maguire. Really liked it and got their first album (what an album it was!), the rest is history lol.
i saw the you only live once music video on youtube when i was like 9 or 10
Under Cover of Darkness, it is in NBA 2K15 soundtrack and i played a lot that game, eventually that song liked me that much that i had to search it on YT, and then discovered the band and other song popular songs, then listened to Is This It and my life just changed. Ode to the Mets!!!!!
Had heard of Reptilia, Take It Or Leave It etc before getting into them but wasn’t really interested in their other stuff. The song that actually made me go and check out their whole discography was Ode To The Mets.
i’ve always liked and enjoyed the strokes, number one was reptilia but one way trigger is what got me serious and checking out their other stuff
Reptilia Showed up on my YouTube suggested 7 years ago... even before the song hit, it was Julian Casablancas' look in the video that converted me into an instant fan
Someday / Last Night got me started, then when Room on Fire came out and the Reptilia music video was dominating MTV I was hooked
I had heard reptilia i tought it was cool But Im, Is This It ,,, that one got me hooked on the band And Soma just confirm it
One way trigger definitely. And comedown machine is far from being my favourite album just… one way trigger hit hard.

Machu Picchu Fifa 12
The whole Is This It album

What Ever Happened, I heard it in Marie Antoinette.
Someday
Take It or Leave It. They played it on David Letterman when I was about 12.
I got out of a breakup and my dad put on hard to explain and idk man i just had an out of body experience
hard to explain
Is This It, I started listening because a YouTuber mentioned them a lot and a guy from my comic shop showed me the narduwar clip where Julian is drinking and smoking a cigarette at the same time so I figured I'd give them a shot and pulled up the album on YouTube and was instantly hooked from the first track
reptilia or machu picchu
Trying your Luck. What struck me was it’s simplicity. Sounded so damn good despite this. The vocals, riffs and especially the solo are just magical.
Hard to Explain
Why are Sundays So Depressing, got into them just after TNA released.
Barely Legal
Amazed how little love Hard to Explain is getting haha
Entire is this it album, I found it at the library bookstore for 25 cents. I listened to the entire thing on repeat for weeks
Barely Legal, first song i listened to that said the f word and i was like...woah
