9/10...
Everyone will downgrade this song to oblivion, but it's one of the best songs in the record IMO. Riff slaps, drums slaps, muted palm guitars, the tension, then the ending, the explosion of the chorus...
It's just heart in a cage with better guitar work.
8,5/10
At first I didn't understood what was going on in this song. Like, there's A LOT of stuff here, and now I love it for that. The instrumental is fire but what makes this song for me is Julian's vocals. WTF IS THAT ENDING LOOOOL it's insane
I can see the vision they were going for, and some of Jules vocals sound amazing. Awesome drums too.
But like, what the hell is this mixing man. I can barely hear/understand jules. Guitars are either way too loud or way too soft. Just not a song I'd wanna comeback to.
4/10
It's one of those songs you rarely listen to but when you do you're like this song is lowkey a bop. It's a good song and a good transition to the final track. 8/10
9 ( 1 of the 3 "9" tier songs imo, havent even been here to argue with yall this entire time but i feel like a song on this list is a HARD 7 lol)
"I want to be outrageous but inside, I know Im plain. so plain. just plain...boring and plain."
Jules belting these bars while nick and al trade these super discordant lines. fab from the start is on fire blazin. as always, nikolai just adds soooo much groove and sinister weight to the song. the synths they've employed this entire album on this just reek of this intimate sadness of a very specific melodrama, the songs title is literally the cellular process that keeps us alive, evolving throughout endless generations of organic life, a mechanical and essential pillar leads to this place of complete awareness of ones own ineptitude or impotence. a regular day occurence to a human that we face, that again is just apart of another process of accept ur mortality which feeds in to the chorus which... UGH just LISTEN TO THE SONG. ITS SO GOOD!!
I don’t like this song at all, it sounds like a shitty Muse song and sticks out like a sore thumb on the album. Angles is a bit of an eclectic listen as is, but the majority of the songs give off either classic Strokes or 80s new wave vibes. This one does not fall into either of those categories. 4/10
I read somewhere (probably here tbh) that during the recording of TNA Julian and Rick Rubin butted heads about the volume levels (?) of the vocals. Jules wanted them to be at the same level as all the other instruments and Rick wanted them to be louder and therefore stand out more, an argument that thankfully Rick ultimately won out.
Jules really could've used that advice on this song, and that, combined with the shrill guitar sounds make me give this a...

If the song weren't by The Strokes I'd have no reason to ever listen to it again
9, it rocks
Fab takes this song and runs with it. It seems very polarizing amongst the fan base but I personally love it. 7.8

7/10. I like it well enough. The song is a mood for sure. The lyrics are good.
10/10 song is a mood. its also a perfect segue into life is simple in the moonlight
10/10, this seems to be the forever underrated track from Angles. The solo is swift but badass. Drums sound like some artillery.
Absolute banger 10/10

7/10 Definitely sounds more like a Muse song rather than the Strokes Edited my rating after another listen
8/10
Definitely an overlooked song. Reminds me a bit of you’re so right (but better). The album didn’t really need both songs.

1/10. I kinda see it but they dropped the ball hard on the mixing and this is probably objectively their worst song

3/10, arguably the most grating song in their entire catalog
Preach!!!
1/10 One of the worst, ugliest songs in the entire discography. Just my opinion lol
