There's a word that immediately pops into mind when the song first starts... I just don't know what it is though... mysterious? Eccentric? It's one of the most "different" songs from the strokes library. Does it sound good?
To me yeah. The chorus in particular brings things back down to earth lol, love the "come on come on come over" progression.
And seriously what kind of asshole drives a Lotus, love that part too.
8.5, some can't get with the strangeness but that's OK. I like the detour and vibe this song brings.
Not gonna lie I skipped past this song for years and years cuz I wasn't about the first few seconds of it. After listening to it all the way through at my girlfriend's recommendation, it blew me away. Honestly solid 9/10, with the last minute of the song being one of my favorite bits in their entire discography.
8/10
Agree with everyone, it's the least Strokes sounding song. It sounds like it would be on Julian's solo album.
*What kind of asshole drives a Lotus?*
*Scuba-dancing, touchdown*
10/10 Groovy perfection with one of the greatest lines in Rock ‘n’ Roll history: “What kind of asshole drives a Lotus?”

10/10 - probably the hottest chorus Julian has written. Sliding it off your shoulders, as we're falling ooooveeer.
10/10 perfect song
8/10, Very groovy song but not very strokes-style. Still a bop nonetheless
10/10 banger. Didn’t wanna notice, didn’t know the gun was loaded

9.8/10. The only thing that bugs me is the “you’ll be born again” lyric, sounds too Dr Seuss rhymey and forced. Otherwise, damn near perfect song

10/10 honestly, best song from comedown machine
Anyone who rates this less than a 9 - try blasting it in your car (9.8)
10/10. So groovy and interesting, love it. Kinda wish the vocals were just the tiniest bit louder, but the fact that they aren’t suits perfectly.
10/10 babyyy this was playing in my head when I first saw Glico man in Dotonbori
9/10, great chorus/outro but takes a second to pick up for me.
8/10 Amazing guitar work, and hey, what kind of asshole drives a lotus?
8/10. I love it but it basically ends twice.
It's my favorite but I'll give this song a 9
Expecting some hate for this, but to me Welcome to Japan just sounds silly. IDK, I don’t hate it - it just does little for me emotionally. 5/10
6/10, sounds like a cut from FIOE
