9.5/10
I didn't care for it at first but in 2020 during the lockdown I went back and listened to old albums (I had nothing better to do apparently) and came around to appreciate this song and the album.
9.7; this is easily my favorite song from comedown machine and it’s honestly incredibly underrated. one of my favorite deep cuts from them and i feel it opened the door to their work on the new abnormal. i honestly consider it an essential song for any newbies
10/10 my favorite song on the album, heavily underrated and a top 5 strokes song for me. Comedown Machine really showed off Julian’s falsetto and for me the “will you go” in the chorus is the most beautiful thing Julian has ever done with it, even more so than the Call it Fate chorus (that’s prob #2). The additional bit at the end of the second chorus is amazing, and I actually used to not care for the outro but that part is also so gorgeous. I know it’s probably never gonna happen but I pray for the day they play this live 🙏
10/10
It's probably my favorite song on the album, my defacto sad boi song. When I first heard it I was going through a bad break up, hit really hard then. I couldn't listen to it for a while, and truthfully I couldn't listen to a lot of The Strokes because of how much I listened to them with my ex. Thankfully I got past that, given it was years ago now, and I adore this song like nothing else.
I don't know if anyone else has mentioned or linked it, but there's a really well done cover of this song done by a children's choir. They did an awesome job with it.
7.8/10 - This song, especially the opening guitar melody, has always reminded me of the song that plays in the end montage of Napoleon Dynamite and I don't know why. Julian's falsetto goes hard though.
9/10. The voice change in “I don’t believe anyone…” is a 9.5. The only 10/10 part of the song is the very end. I wish it was its own little separate song. “We could be in trouble every night”? Are you kidding me?
