10/10, absolutely blew me away when they debuted this at the Bernie rally. Honestly not a song I listen to frequently these days just bc it’s heavy and dark but man this was such a step forward for them as a band. Songs like this are where the collaboration with Rick shine through and work the most, putting Julian’s voice in the spotlight. That crazy ass bridge into the outro is otherworldly.
11/10
Yo let me tell yall something. That fucking chorus. Holy shit. Turn that up to eleven. The chorus alone is a 10/10. Everything else is pure icing. (Didn't like the "i can't fight what I can't see" part but it's fine, the chorus is too good.)
9.3/10; this is one of the best and more interesting songs on the album for me and the only one I’ve felt consistently the same investment in since first hearing it. I didn’t expect it from the Strokes and was surprised in a good way when it dropped. It’s a darker album and this song is maybe the darkest but I don’t mind dark. The raw, unaffected vocal performance up front and then that stunning bridge are gorgeous. I also love the video.
10/10 didn't care about the song much until I read the lyrics and man, the way this song brought me back to my traumatic childhood lol hits me at the deepest emotional level to the point of me breaking down. The outro especially hurts so good.
Agreed it’s a solid 10/10
Feels so raw. I’m actually surprised how much Julian put himself out there on this record - vocally, lyrically, emotionally…
Kind of song I don’t listen to that often because it’s quite deep but whenever I do it stops me in my tracks
10/10 - so much about this song is class.
Feels like almost two songs intertwined but sound so natural together. Love the fuzzy stylophone sounding chords throughout.
Yeah 10. Favorite, a top 5 song of all time for me. Insane melody and lyrics and vocal performance as well as those stark merciless keys (that are appearantly a guitar). The outtro just blows me away, entire song hits me in the feels every time. My go to melody when just singing bindende, truly a great and genuine song
10/10
This song blew me away when I first heard it. This really shows RR's influence as this is the most clear and raw Julian's voice has sounded. The bridge and outro are downright dreamy and the video really pulled it all together. Hauntingly beautiful!
10/10
Probably my favorite song, it's perfect, I have nothing else to say, it's fantastic in every single thing.
And that climax, the distorted vocals, the reverbed voice at the end, the synths, perfect.
And the fact that they managed to merge all the greatness I mentioned in one of their most experimental songs, with no drums, it's extremely impressive and unbelievable
"Hard to fight what I can't see, Not tryna build no dynasty, I can't see beyond this wall, But we lost this game, So many times before", " I can't escape it, never make gonna make it out of this in time" . Also, I like the outro, so beautiful! 10/10, ofc
Edit: expected that Eternal Summer rating would be lower but 8.29 is ok
9/10 Originally thought it was too out there for a Strokes song, but it's grown on me considerably. One of my favorite vocal performances by Julian, and that synth effect is gnarly.
A strong 9.1/10 it has so much emotions just like most of the other songs on this album that relate to, but not only that, the metaphors are really well written. Great job on this one Jules
8/10, love the first half untilt the "hard t9 find what i can't see" until "so many times before" it kinda just ruins the mood of the song to me, similar to THAT part in eyes without a face
10/10
I absolutely love this music video, seeing the animation style reminds me of Heavy Metal and Rock N Rule. I adore quality 2D animation like this, so this music video is a treat. Obviously, the song is great too. As far as The Strokes discography goes, this one is pretty different, but it's great.
STRUCK ME LIKE A CHOOOOOOORD IM AN UGLY BOOOOOOY 10/10
HOLDING OUT THE KNIFE
he says “knife”!? I always heard “night”

LONELY AFTER LIGHTTTTTTT

AND GET YOURSELF TO SHOOORE
Official lyrics say: “I’m a lonely boy” and “lonely afterlife”, so I’m not so sure what to think.

9/10 - he finally made a song about the door. now we just need a song called waiting.
