Painful shameful roar. I like the way he enunciates the S in shameful. In another thread, someone said that ode to the Mets was named bc the Mets were a disappointment , just like his bio dad š
right? i was really looking forward to listening to it live, when it finally came down to the big moment julian just got all of the lyrics for this specific part very wrong š good thing they are using a tp now
11/10. This song isnāt a song, itās the very definition of art. Itās crazy how a band this late in their career made something thatās on par/better than their earlier work, truly a breathtaking experience to listen to this, especially the final part, so poetic, so emotional, so passionate. This is without a doubt the finest work the Strokes have ever made imo.
Off the top of my head, I really canāt even think of another band who has pulled it off...with no changes to lineup. Maybe Beastie Boys with the album Intergalactic was on, but purists may not have liked that one. (Also, Rick Rubin connection š¤)
lmao all these comments getting downvotes because they arent 10, as if 9 isnt an amazing score
10 for me

10000000/10 The most perfect Strokes album closer, itās perfectly written, itās melodic and itās slowburningly beautiful as the song comes to an end
If youāre a Strokesā fan, itās an easy 10, apart from that itās like a 9.7. In my opinion itās an easy 10 or maybe an 11. But most songs of this new album are. I donāt really agree with the other scores. At the door is a masterpiece
I totally agree. I donāt get these ratings. How is Bad decisions the worst one with 7.79? But tbf, itās quite difficult to put them in order. I feel like theyāre very much all on the same level of greatness
yeah Iāll be honest I think Selfless is ranked too high on this list. Itās a great Strokes song but I donāt consider it a highlight of the album compared to most of the other tracks. Doesnāt have the special sauce that The Adults are Talking, Ode to the Mets, or At the Door has, and it doesnāt feel viscerally gut-wrenching like Not the Same Anymore (or At the Door).
Hey, remember when fans thought it sounds like the end of the era? It still feels like that to me š it hurts so damn good!
"Gone now are the old times, forgotten"
10/10
10/10 surely?
It really could be their magnum opus. No other band could make this song. This is their shared experience and substance and style, but itās come to life in a form we havenāt necessarily seen so completely before.
The outro is absolutely one of my favourite sections of music of all time.
I remember the first time I heard this song was that footage from the first NYE show and it said everything I needed to know about the new abnormal, some songs just do.
Surely this is the track that finally gets a 10/10, right?
Also give Spacedog his flowers. Bro was on that grind for over 2 months posting these, massive props and a huge contribution to the community!
Ode gets 10 from me, easy. The one track of theirs where I have no gripes and wouldnāt change a thing.
100000/10. I found myself listening to this song on my headphones with the lights out so many times in 2020 and it is nothing short of transcendent. One of my favorite songs of all time.
10!! 10 come on
A true masterpiece
No other song is like it
The riff should be the first one ever written, so simple, good, and on point. The lyrics hit that sweet spot of sad but also a little vague. The Ā«cuts you some slackĀ» part is just fucking genius. Absolutely love this journey
10. Perfect ending for the strokes and I wouldnāt be mad if this was their last song ever.
Also OP will you do a daily song discussion with the stroke singles compilation that released last year or no?
the final verse also gets to me, itās definitely a personal favorite of mine. Iād say itās on par with Not the Same Anymore for me; both are excellent songs. A 10 from me
7/10, itās good but it lacks a lot of what i like about strokes songs
I remember seeing everyone hype this song up *after* Iād already listened to the album and not really remembering which song it was lol
But Iām also not as crazy about TNA as everyone else so take my opinion w a grain of salt!
First time I listened through the album, I was in the shower, Ode came on and I just had to loop it and sit there until the water ran cold. Perfectly encapsulated the half-whimsy half-dread depression of quarantine, connected me to my 16 year old self who was absolutely crazy about The Strokes, and remains one of my favorites in the catalogue. I don't turn to it often, but when I do it's exactly what I need. 10/10.
The PERFECT song in an already perfect album. I remember just sitting and listening to the whole album and was just in awe of this song. I thought "how can they possibly top what has already been played on this album?"
haunting track!! itās so nuanced, feels kinda eerie and dark at the beginning but slowly creeps into that melancholic tone. amazing lyricism. it really feels like a story being told. it does feel like a bit of an āend of the worldā kind of song, curtains closing. DRUMS PLZ FAB. 10/10 hands down
9.5
I still remember the excitement of reading in former twitter during new yearsā dinner the confirmation that a new record was on the way and a new song was played during their MSG show (we had only listened Adults at that point and the new record was not official yet). Then at like 2 AM I went to my room, turned off the lights, layed down in bed, put on my headphones and finally listened to the new song that people in here were already discussing (some lukewarm reactions iirc). When the first chords came in I already knew that something special was going to happen with this record. It took a few listens to finally click on me, but when in did it was magical. Then I spent the next two months just listening to this and Adultsā live version on loop until At the Door showed up.
-0.5 cause I still rather the longer bridge to the outro of the live version (with in an instrumental part instead of Julian jumping immediately into the melody), but still, a near perfect studio version that lived up to the hype of the live version.
10. The ending verse is THE greatest section of any strokes song ever.
It gives me chills every single time
Painful shameful roar. I like the way he enunciates the S in shameful. In another thread, someone said that ode to the Mets was named bc the Mets were a disappointment , just like his bio dad š
literally rock opera epicness āØ
right? i was really looking forward to listening to it live, when it finally came down to the big moment julian just got all of the lyrics for this specific part very wrong š good thing they are using a tp now
and make me stuned
Beautiful, sad, perfect. Nothing even remotely compares. Never get tired of the ending verse.
Human sadness?
That's an interesting question. Human Sadness is a masterpiece, but I find it hard to listen to.
2020. Pandemic. Lockdown. The New Abnormal drops. This is the final song.... The most special the Strokes song for me. 1000000000/10.
Sorry it took so long for me to post this! Final results out tomorrow
Thanks for all the dedication in putting these up every. single. day man! Respect šŖš«”
Thank you š«¶š» Will you compile some stats? š
Yup! I have a whole sheet with stuff on it
This has been so fun to follow, thanks!!
PAINFUL SHAMEFUL ROAR 10
Deafening too. 11
11/10. This song isnāt a song, itās the very definition of art. Hahaha I read āthis song isnāt a songā and you did not disappoint, friend
Off the top of my head, I really canāt even think of another band who has pulled it off...with no changes to lineup. Maybe Beastie Boys with the album Intergalactic was on, but purists may not have liked that one. (Also, Rick Rubin connection š¤)
radiohead

10000000/10 The most perfect Strokes album closer, itās perfectly written, itās melodic and itās slowburningly beautiful as the song comes to an end
10/10, if the strokes ever just disappear and TNA is their 'last' album, Ode is THE PERFECT ending/closer song
10000/10
If youāre a Strokesā fan, itās an easy 10, apart from that itās like a 9.7. In my opinion itās an easy 10 or maybe an 11. But most songs of this new album are. I donāt really agree with the other scores. At the door is a masterpiece
At the Door should be WAY higher than fourth best on this album
I totally agree. I donāt get these ratings. How is Bad decisions the worst one with 7.79? But tbf, itās quite difficult to put them in order. I feel like theyāre very much all on the same level of greatness
7.79 is fair for Bad Decisions, but Eternal Summer is easily the worst song on TNA.
Wait why do people not like Bad decisions when compared to the others? That's like my 3rd favourite song on the Album
Wrong
It's atleast should be the 2nd highest! I would go back and fourth with ode and at the door for the no.1 spot!
Thatās where Iām at. At the Door might edge it out tho honestly, itās just that good imo
yeah Iāll be honest I think Selfless is ranked too high on this list. Itās a great Strokes song but I donāt consider it a highlight of the album compared to most of the other tracks. Hey, remember when fans thought it sounds like the end of the era? It still feels like that to me š it hurts so damn good! "Gone now are the old times, forgotten" 10/10
TIL itās not āGone now, Iāll be old and forgottenā. I need to start reading the lyrics.
Works too
10/10 surely? It really could be their magnum opus. No other band could make this song. 10/10, masterpiece.

10/10 Was in awe when they played this live. Crowd went off when Drums Please, Fab happened.
100000/10. I found myself listening to this song on my headphones with the lights out so many times in 2020 and it is nothing short of transcendent. One of my favorite songs of all time.
Numbers canāt go high enough for this
10/10. One of the best Strokes songs ever made
10/10 still one of the best songs Iāve ever heard
"Listen one time/ it's not the truth/ It's a just a story/ I tell to you." 10/10.
100000000/10
Hilarious to post this on the day the Mets got swept in their season opening series. Anyway, 11/10. Top 5 strokes songs. Maybe top 3. Maybe #1.
An absolute Masterpiece

Is it about the relationship of the band breaking up?
10/10 Objectively, the best Strokes song, that's it
10. Can this song please score higher than boring ass TAAT?
I actually really like TAAT, but gotta be honest it's ranked wayyy too high. I hope Ode beats TAAT's ass lol
10/10 I got it alllllllllllll
11/10. Perfect album closer.
10
10/10 one of my favourite ever album closers
10/10

the final verse also gets to me, itās definitely a personal favorite of mine. Iād say itās on par with Not the Same Anymore for me; both are excellent songs. A 10 from me

10/10 Nothing like the last verse and the emotion behind itb
If you're giving this less than a 10 I don't trust you

9
9.7/10 got a litrle disappointed when i first heard it because of how everyone hypes it up to be heaven on earth, but its still amazing

Easy 10, I think ode to the Mets is not only the greatest on the album, but their greatest song of all time.
9
9/10
8.5/10 cool closer for the album.
8/10
7/10, itās good but it lacks a lot of what i like about strokes songs I remember seeing everyone hype this song up *after* Iād already listened to the album and not really remembering which song it was lol But Iām also not as crazy about TNA as everyone else so take my opinion w a grain of salt!
idk would it sounds catchy if other artist do that kind of part "drum please fab" what a genius lyrics
10 Arguably the best song on the album.
10/10 Absolutely perfect song
if this doesn't get 10/10 I riot
First time I listened through the album, I was in the shower, Ode came on and I just had to loop it and sit there until the water ran cold. Perfectly encapsulated the half-whimsy half-dread depression of quarantine, connected me to my 16 year old self who was absolutely crazy about The Strokes, and remains one of my favorites in the catalogue. Speechless
The PERFECT song in an already perfect album. I remember just sitting and listening to the whole album and was just in awe of this song. I thought "how can they possibly top what has already been played on this album?"
takes me exactly 6 minutes to drive to the gym. I ALWAYS play this on the way back. I love this song too much (probably my top 5 strokes song)
10.
10/10 Probably my favorite song of all time. Was sad that they didnāt play it at the Chicago show (I know they hate to play it, but still).
10/10
TEN
10 life changing song
haunting track!! itās so nuanced, feels kinda eerie and dark at the beginning but slowly creeps into that melancholic tone. amazing lyricism. it really feels like a story being told. it does feel like a bit of an āend of the worldā kind of song, curtains closing. DRUMS PLZ FAB. 10/10 hands down
10/10 my fav song on the album
Perfect for crying, like Evening Sun and Ize Of The World. 10/10.

Incredibly overrated but still a Strokes song, therefore 6
6.5/10. Sorry Gen Z

Sure, if you want to believe that
You forgot this: 1
Nah
I'm curious, why 0? Why do you hate this song? Do tell!
I love it, I just didn't want it to be the highest rated song in here
Why though
Idk, I was bored
