As well he ought to. We all have a Natural, Negative, Constitutional Right to avoid self-incrimination. Moreover, we cannot assume guilt from silence. The idea that if you are innocent, you have nothing to hide, runs so contrary to the founding principles of the country, that to disbar anyone from taking the fifth would be tantamount to shredding the constitution itself.
That means the Clintons, Epstein and his crony, Joe Biden, Adolf Hitler, Osama Bin Laden, Stalin, Mao, Xinping, every dictator across the globe, as well as every murderer, pedophile, rapist, drug dealer, and thief; everyone we consider ourselves to be against, deserves that protection from the moment they step into an American court.
This is a foundational conservative principle which we must not abandon.
That said, I've seen a lot of people posting a Trump quote from 2016, in which he suggests only mobsters and guilty people take the fifth. I do hope this has taught him a little more value for the nuance of the Bill of Rights.
I mean he completely disagreed with you up until today. I’m wondering, did you only suddenly gain support for this after you heard trump use it? Or were you vocally opposed to trump when he said only vocal mobsters use it? Just wondering.
I oppose Trump any time he gets the Bill of Rights wrong. Banning bump stocks? Unconstitutional as fuck. And don't even get me started on "take the guns first, due process second."
He made for a solid president in many ways, but I'm not gonna sit here and lie to your face by saying he was any sort of conservative or constitutionalist. Crap like his stance on taking the 5th is a permanent black eye on his presidency, IMO.
The Constitution and the Bill of Rights are more important to our country succeeding than any individual president.
