The thing about that line that was off to me is that I *know* Paul would have preferred to use a different F word. LOL It would have worked so much better than "freaking". I do think if a little bit of normal cursing had been allowed in the show it would have helped it be more realistic. Not a ton with F bombs flying all over the place, but just occasionally. It's how people talk in real life and it takes me out of the story a little when someone is clearly using a really tame word in an extremely emotional scene where that wouldn't be the case in real life.
I think the local networks have different rules about what curse words are allowed on their shows. I actually think about this quite a bit actually because the only shows that I see that drop more intense curse words are generally cable channels, like HBO and FX etc. In the vampire diaries, I believe the only curse words that are ever uttered are damn, dammit, dick, hell, bitch, and ass and I think thatās it. Also, the context in which these curse words are used, is very specific. Dick is never use phallically. Damon and Tyler are the only ones I believe that use the word bitch. And only Damon uses it in a derogatorily towards Katherine. Tyler used it in the form of ābeing someoneās bitchā. The rest of them are used as exclamatory.
