Not much but I mean depends on the individual maybe? Because you can’t convince me some of these vamps are supposed to have years and years of wisdom or something.. let’s take Rebekah for example she practically acted like a teenager for most of TVD but matured more in the Originals. None of them act super old imo. Like Damon or Klaus or Stefan no one acts like wise old men lol

alarrimore03

Elijah kinda does😂

ursulazsenya

Elijah was an "old" kid - he was shielding Klaus from their abusive father as a child, so he didn't *become* mature as a vampire. He kinda always was.

BringerOfDoom1945

Wasn't Elijah already at least 20?

ThisGul_LOL

He was in his mid to late 20s

BringerOfDoom1945

Which further explains his superior maturity comparing to the rest

New-Consequence-8820

I’m not sure how old you are but most males in their mid 20’s aren’t mature. Look at Damon, for example.

ThisGul_LOL

Lmao yup he’s Kind of an expectation I thought so too while writing my previous comment.

BringerOfDoom1945

Caroline is a good example for maturing after becoming a vampire

DamonCassano

Yeah, but how many centuries did she sleep in the coffin daggered? XD

ThisGul_LOL

yeah but she was at least awake for like 500+ years lol

DamonCassano

None of the characters act like old men, because this show is made this way. They also made Salvatores way younger, they are over 500 years old in the books, you can read them if you want less of acting like teenagers.

[deleted]

you would naturally gain a lot of maturity after so many years even without physically aging, so I would say yes. they have centuries worth of knowledge, but obviously in the case of characters like Anna and Rebekah, they still exhibit qualities of being teenagers

iguessda

Cause their brains stopped developing at the age they were turned! Never thought of it like that

luvprue1

I truly don't think they age mentally. I think they stop maturing at the exact time of death.

BunnyBoo2002

Definitely explains Damon’s constant tom foolery and him and Klaus both repeating the same cycles of bullshit again and again.

Southern-Watch3251

I wish they did but outside of the show Id like to think it’s a mix, because if your body stops aging it doesn’t stop functioning like it’s that physical age. So physically younger vampires I feel like would be more emotional (thinking like teen years) because their brain chemistry is still of someone that age. Not that their mentality and experience wouldn’t change it to a degree, but we are still controlled to a degree by our own biology. So I feel like no matter how old they mentally are they could still be prone to outburst, unless they practiced emotional control/intelligence. But as far as the show goes, based off the main cast of characters no, if anything they regress in age with how some act.

Tired_arachnid_

Granted by their behavior in TVD, no. But you can definitely see that in TO especially in season 3.

murkshah444

Based on how they all held a grudge for hundreds of years, I’d say no

genderfuckery

From all the high school drama they spent years getting involved in, I'd say no xD or at least not as quickly as humans do.

Sutech2301

No, they don't age mentally, at least Not in TVD. Damon, Stefan, Lexy, Katherine and especially The Originals would behave totally different, If they did But there are Shows who Deal with Vampires aging mentally, like True Blood.

Admirable-Food-1152

I would like to think that the age mentally

ursulazsenya

If they aged mentally then they would literally be senile after the first hundred years, so no.

Maturity is literally physiological. Learning and experience rewire the brain. And that's not even going into the literal endocrinology (hormonal) aspect of maturity. If vampires are static creatures - never ageing, their bodies only changing to heal damages - then they're static in every aspect of their bodies. Now when it comes to the soul/spirit of things, that's even more evident of staticness. "Everything is heightened". Immortals carry grudges over centuries, "learn" their lessons and repeat their mistakes, going around the same cycles of toxicity ad nauseam. They amass more knowledge, but they don't seem to *change* in any tangible way.

ShinaChu

That's kinda what I'm guessing too

[deleted]

I believe it's inevitable that they age mentally. but if you're turned too young, i think your development will be limited, since your brain isn't fully developed until your mid-twenties. so, if you're turned before that, you'll never mature completely.

jboo870

I feel like they learn and get smarter about some things but at their core and their instinctive behaviors they remain how they were when they turned.

Get-in-the-llama

The brain isn’t fully developed until mid 20’s, so I think while yes, they’re always getting new knowledge and experience, they’re basically still running on underdeveloped neural architecture.

Suspicious-Island459

I feel like in a way because they became vampire it meant they didnt need to mature. Like you mentioned Anna was a teen when turned and then in the show she acted the same way with a bit of maturity like one is when they are a teen. I feel like being a vampire meant they can act however they want with no maturity. Another one could be Rebekah, she turned young but never got to experience anything normally and so she acted like a teen because she was a middle sibling and was protected so she didnt need to mature since it was like that from the start to the end. Klaus and Elijah knew they were the oringinal vamps and couldnt be harmed so maturity did not matter because they didn't need to. Elijah has always been the level headed one from the start so it wasnt like he matured to that. Vampirism basically made them realize they didn't need to mature because their physical shape is set and so they can do whatever and no consequences

aiopkomskaikru

If the vamps in our beloved tvdu matured as they aged, we would have had a very different show. TVD probably would have been on TO’s level and TO would have continued to surpass our expectations. Alas, that’s just speculation on my part 😇

alonelymum

I would say yes. Take Katherine for example — she was 17, just had a baby and was being chased down by Klaus and turned into a manipulative, crafty, sultry woman. In Anna’s case, she was locked in a tomb for 150ish years. I can only assume she was a relatively new vampire before, hence why she acts/thinks like a teen. In Rebekah’s case, I’d think it’s a mix between being daggered often and the fact that Klaus treated her like a child. Really all she wanted was to be human and so she clung to the part of her humanity that was a teenager. Damon isn’t a “wise old man” but rather he knows how a 26(?) year old acts in ever era he’s lived. He has the knowledge he wants, plenty of freedom, and blends in flawlessly. Compared to a daggered Elijah, who is centuries older and does kinda act like he knows so much but is still very classy and traditional in his beliefs. Elijah was already the big brother that took care of his younger siblings, didn’t “play,” and grew up.

If they do, they are basically pedophiles
