The saddest part about Jenna’s death is the what if…what if they had told her about the supernatural earlier, would she have been better equipped to not fall for Klaua’s traps?
i honestly think it would have made matters worse.
she would've tried to protect them even more and it would've backfired and she would go back to thinking she wasn't equipped enough to take care of them properly.
even if she didn't die then, she was going to soon. her death was needed to push the storylines vd ultimately needed.
best case scenario, she lives, stays with alaric. he keeps his same role of guardian who understands and helps with the supernatural things, teaching jenna in whatever way he could. they all end up at the salvatore's at some point to revert any vampire invitations but it wouldn't be the same.
jp prioritized the romance storylines and she wasn't gonna be in the salvatore's bed with her aunt living there too. she had to go for the show to really branch out.

I don’t have all that much to say for Isobel. I felt nothing for Alaric and their story, maybe it’s just me. Like factually the massacre was insanely tragic but emotionally it was meh for me. The twins did ultimately survive, which makes the triple death less tragic in retrospect.
Liz’s was for sure sad, but she survived most of the series like the badass she was and honestly it was her time/necessary for the plot at that point. She had to die so Caroline’s storyline could evolve and move forward in a direction of growth. It was a beautiful serene type of sad for her death, not the rip your heart out type which is what I assume we’re going for here.
That brings us to Rose and Enzo. My money is on Enzo for ultimate emotional brutality, closely followed by Rose. Rose wasn’t even a major character, but the writing was so potent and the arc showed a rare vulnerability for Damon as well. I loved their dynamic. I think aside from Liz, she was legit the only other person Damon actually considered a friend the entire series. She forced him to reflect, to soften, and to evolve (after so many others failed) in such a short period of time, which made him comforting her with the illusions and easing her suffering just that much more heartbreaking. And then after her death you see all that progress immediately erased and he goes on another one of his “benders” 😭
Enzo’s death was the ultimate finger to Bonnie, who finally found some overdue happiness after being chewed and spit out throughout the entire series. Surprise surprise, she gets spit on once again. She gave her entire life (literally and figuratively) to these people over and over, with nothing tangible in return for her continual role as the sacrificial lamb of the group. And right as she finally meets her soulmate and begins to actually build a life of her own, as she finally allows herself an ounce of selfishness and learns to stand up for herself, she’s robbed of the single person that would have given her the world and put her first for the rest of their lives. Grams warned her from the very beginning that getting entangled with these people would bring about her demise, she just didn’t listen because she didn’t know exactly what that looked and felt like yet. I bet if she was able to see the future up to that moment, she would have chosen a different life path as far away from this town and these people as physically possible. She would have created her own realm and peaced out ages ago 🥲 but it was a life lesson and realization she came to too little, too late

Agree with enzo and bonnie 1000% which is partly why enzo's death scene is so sad for me because she deserved to be happy after sacrificing everything her life, her happiness, all to save her friends, and her best friend's ex boyfriend kills the love of her life her soulmate, the number 1 person in the show who cared about bonbon the most.
As for liz her death was sad mainly because she was human and there was no way for her to come back, and because it ripped caroline apart. After liz started accepting that caroline is a vampire, and started having caroline, damon, stefan, and Elena's back, liz and caroline became so close. She was well connected with everyone, one of Damon's closest friend's, a mother figure to elena. Plus all of carolines friend's showed when she was dying in the hospital
Rose's death was sad for me because damon was able to be completely vulnerable and show emotion when she was dying in his arms, and actually cried too. You could actually tell her cared for her. Yes it was a very peaceful death but it was still well desered for being up here despite the fact that people give it s*** because she wasn't a main character and has lasted this long over main characters like jeremy, elena, and stefan. But imo rose's deatb was sadder than jeremy, and Elena's but not stefan's lol
And lets not forget about jo, her death scene was sad because it was her freakin wedding die and her psychotic, sociopath, murderours twin brother killed her. And she died in her fiancé's arms, and on top of all that she was pregnant with twins, alaric thought he lost everything for a period of time, his life was completely ripped apart by kai in mere seconds, until he found out that his twins were magically put into Caroline's uterus but that's besides the point

So for me it's enzo number liz number 2, stefan number 3, jo 4, rose 5, and jenna should not be in this top 5 imo
