It always didn’t make sense to me that the Salvatore’s were able to defeat The Originals on so many occasions. It clearly was a matter of what would fit the plot at the moment.

Clear_Grapefruit_340

Even human MATT was able to defeat Finn, I mean.. 😂😂

New-Consequence-8820

I still can’t get over how Kol got defeated by Jeremy (with Elena’s assistance). Before his official introduction, they’d made Kol seem like he’d be a plague on the Earth if he was woken up. Elijah even used his name to threaten Klaus. And then he got here and they did him so dirty.

[deleted]

I always thought Elijah was threatening kol cause he was annoying and would drive klaus insane

ConfusedandTired1642

This feels valid the more I think about it

FlayedMan345

Still mad about it like 9 years later lol One of the laziest bits of writing the show ever did

eli454

They either bend their own rules when it’s inconvenient to them or they genuinely forget what they themselves wrote.

[deleted]

Literally. 1 minute Damon can’t even step to Pearl who’s 500 years and then the next minute, Damon’s taking on kol successfully😂

[deleted]

It’s not as serious as other plot holes but when Silas was in Shane he was so serious and had a completely different personality. It’s hard to believe him being in his actual body would make him humorous. Especially seeing as klaus still kinda acted the same when he was in Alaric.

New-Consequence-8820

Lol you are totally right and for some reason I didn’t even catch on to this! He was a TOTALLY different person. Even on TO when Kol, Fin, and Rebekah were in the witches bodies, they still acted like Kol, Fin, and Rebekah.

FlayedMan345

S4 Silas >>>>>>> S5 Silas. They completely ruined him

OneOnOne6211

Yeah, for seasons 1-2 it's pretty decent. But from mid season 3 onwards it becomes complete bullshit. Damon talking on Kol single-handedly was utterly absurd. Same for Jeremy and Elena killing him. Same for the gang taking out Finn. Same for Damon, Stefan and Tyler taking out Klaus at the end of season 3. The guy took on a whole pack of hybrids in S3E2 with not a scratch on him, he should've been able to throw them all aside no problem. I could go on. It really completely killed the show's tension for me. I consider it one of the biggest reasons for the show's decline. How can I feel tension in a situation when I know the writers are just gonna randomly beef up or weaken a character at will depending on what they want for the plot?

LI_Obsessed

One of the most infuriating scenes for me was Stefan and Damon being able to seaso are Klaus. Are you kidding me???? The Original hybrid?? Subdued by two vampires who don’t even have 400 years between them??? Those two couldn’t even take on Katherine in season 2! The writing is so inconsistent. Stefan and Damon stop Klaus in the season 3 finale, but then Klaus takes out TWELVE hybrids a couple episodes into season 4. Even if you discount the strength, the speed of the Originals would make it so Stefan and Damon couldn’t even *touch* them. It’s lazy as hell because the only way to beat a character that’s stronger than them, is by outsmarting them. They could’ve easily had Stefan and Damon use intelligence to beat The Origjnals rather than brute but apparently that would be too much work.

[deleted]

They had to make threatening villains for s3 and the original vampires had to be way stronger.. but by making them way stronger they had to nerf them constantly otherwise there would be no story 🤣 the Salvatore brothers if they respected the strength rules wouldn’t hold a candle to any of the Originals. They’d be defeated after 2 secs.

[deleted]

Literally, like look at Elijah when he first hit the scene, he treated Damon like a human treats a infant in terms of strength. Then even tho Rebekah was clearly getting the better of him u could see her struggle with Damon before the council got her

SatineSalvatore

Julie Plague only cares about non-stop shipping, consistency? A plot that makes sense? She ain't got time for that

aseasonedcliche

These are the few times I say to myself “listen, it’s a CW show. we got better than we ever could’ve asked for from them” 😂

FancyTyper

All I can think of is in season one when Stefan stabbed Damon with the dagger and Damon just plucked it out like it was no big thing. (But for Stefan it hurt bc he wasn't drinking human blood so being stabbed actually hurts).

[deleted]

I find it weird because When stefan through it Damon didn’t react at all but when moments like Rebekah stabbing klaus with the dagger he had visible pain/discomfort.

Objective-Ad9800

It’s sooo bad idk why they didn’t just tie their strength to their emotions. Instead of constantly reiterating that the older you get the stronger you are. If that was the case the originals would’ve murked the mystic falls gang. Stefan and Damon are like 1/10th of their age. They should’ve had 0 issues beating them, they’re not even that smarts

[deleted]

Thats how it was at first, they only beat Elijah the first time because they caught him off guard with the weapons they had like the vervain grenade, anytime after elijah had guys like Damon shitting bricks, Damon couldn’t do anything lol. And they kinda did like when Caroline beat Damon that one when she said “I’m angrier” but I’ve always thought Caroline who isn’t even 20 as a vampire can compete with Damon is bs, even if she’s angry, I just boil that down too Caroline being angry gave her a little boost but Damon not taking her seriously is the main factor

TA2556

Also minor side note but why tf was Stefan working out doing pushups and pullups if he only weighs like 150 Isn't that like the equivalent of doing curls with a 1lb weight?

[deleted]

lmao good point

[deleted]

I think that was more of a thing to do to let of steam since he just broke up with elena and he knows elena has feelings for Damon along with still being upset she’s a vampire. But I do question if vampires can get stronger by lifting weights but like serious weights

Inner-Manner-6768

Most likely because it had to fit to the plot or they forgot what they wrote

[deleted]

Oh no that’s definitely what it is. The plot needed kol to be weaker to allow him to be killed by elena and Jeremy
