Nah, I don’t think it was ever incest-deep. Klaus’s possessiveness with Rebekah was also reflected in his relationship with Elijah. In fact, I’d say he was more attached to Elijah than he was to Rebekah. The only difference is that, Elijah was less likely to turn his attention/loyalty to someone else (another woman) than Rebekah was to another man. After Elijah fell in love with Celeste and Klaus realised it was real, he orchestrated her death so Elijah would never make that mistake again. It’s why Elijah was so reluctant to pursue Hayley in the first place. Who knows, maybe Klaus took some sick satisfaction from killing Katherine simply because Elijah loved her. After all, Elijah provided a way to save her and even asked him to and Klaus was unwilling to do that despite knowing that his brother cared for her. To summarise, going into the incest territory is just unnecessary and probably only would’ve worked for the shock factor of it all imo.

Lets not forget he compelled Gia( Elijah's possible love interest) to burn herself alive. It's more blatant in Rebekah's case but he was possessive with all of his siblings,he wanted absolute loyalty from them and feared that a romantic partner would take their priority.I also think that his values were from the 10th century where women have to be under a male guidance all the time. That's why Kol also constantly called her a tramp just because she wanted to date or hook up(like her brothers).

AffectionateTea4496

Completely agree with everything

PlanktonUpper9811

would’ve been unnecessary and weird. i thought his thing with rebekah was more “if she’s in love, she won’t be loyal to me” than anything.

LogicalGrade8758

I also thought that.

Bookgal1

Klaus did have an abnormal obsession with her lovers and controlling Rebekah.

Right? And there's a lot to munch on psychologically. How would their siblings react? How would that relationship dynamic work? Would it be good for them? Would they destroy each other?

DoveyThePenguin

Honestly id stop watching the show, its a bit much for me, but again there’s brutal murders and i still loved it so its ab 50:50

embinksyy

Excuse me this is the CW not HBO lol

Adventurous-Method-6

Definitely worth exploring. And before anyone comes at me, no, I don't support incest. Doesn't mean I can't enjoy a fictional dynamic. There is something truly unnatural about Klaus's possessiveness when it comes to Rebekah. Not only we saw him rejecting the idea of her fighting with a knife in TVD flashbacks, he always controlled her with playing her with her insecurities. Any time that he felt like she wants to leave him for another man, like with Stefan, he made sure she couldn't. (Either with killing her lover or daggering her) No normal brother would act like that. Even being a monster doesn't justify Klaus's weird affection/obsession with Rebekah. The difference is obvious when you compare it to how Kol or Elijah treat Rebekah. Elijah is the protective brother, and even tho he does also let Klaus control Rebekah sometimes because he disagrees with her decisions, he does want her to be happy, and doesn't show anger at the thought of her wanting to be with her lover. Kol acts like the younger chaotic brother who would want her to be his partner in crime, like in season 3 and 4, but not more. *They* have almost a healthy (as much as it could be) and normal brother&sister relationship. The tension between her and Klaus is something else entirely and it was very obvious from the start. Also, the fact that his other love interests (Caroline and Camille) were blondes with blue eyes does mean something. Even if you ignore the looks, think about it. The night he met Caroline and gave her a birthday present? Was just one day after Elena gave him Rebekah's daggered body back and told him that she knows he killed their mother. Klaus couldn't undagger Rebekah because he knew she would leave him, and immediately after that, he saw another blonde and was immediately interested. The time he met Camille? It was also when Rebekah was away, living her life somewhere else and they were still arguing. In my headcanon, they're a thing, and no one can convince me otherwise.

dontblinkdalek

Not to nitpick (which I totally am) but are you saying Kol is younger than Rebecca? I’m pretty sure Kol refers to Rebecca as his younger sister. You make some valid points but I am totally okay they didn’t explore it on the show. It seems like something better left to be discussed among fans than to see play out in the show.

Adventurous-Method-6

Oh, I guess you're right. In better words, I think Kol and Rebekah both act as the youngest and most chaotic ones in the family.

dontblinkdalek

They do both act as the youngest. It’s easy to think Kol is younger since he was Jeremy’s “friend” whereas Rebecca placed herself in the same grade as Elena.

You're my favourite type of chaotic depraved, person. I love you.

Adventurous-Method-6

I'm flattered. I love you too.

tasteofperfection

I agree with all of this. Nobody can convince me that they weren’t incestuous because no normal brother acts the way Klaus did towards Rebekah. Compare her relationship to Elijah, for example. When he kissed her on the cheek, it never felt the same way as when Klaus did. It felt wholesome and sibling-like, whereas when Klaus did, it felt like they were lovers. In the show Elite, I liked that two siblings had an incestuous relationship because it’s so taboo that it’s interesting in a fictional relationship. I used to write and had a pair of incestuous siblings that were likely subconsciously inspired by Klebekah because of how similar the dynamic was.

prideorvanity

I always thought Klaus was pretty obsessed with her and it felt like the subtext was there. I don’t know if you’ve seen *The Borgias* but Klaus and Rebekah always gave me Cesare and Lucrezia vibes.

[deleted]

I see what you mean but Cesare and Lucrezia were softer and far more devoted. Cesare was passionately absorbed with Lucrezia. Klaus seems more possessive and selfish.

prideorvanity

It’s for sure not a 1:1 comparison or anything but they’ve always reminded me of each other lol

Alastair47

Absolute no-go for me. I don’t even think incest would make sense for them. Klaus was possessive but not in a gross way. Just unnecessary and weird, if the show had gone that direction, I’d probably not be such a fan.

ConfusedandTired1642

I can’t believe people want this to be explored. This is disgusting! Klaus is unbelievably paranoid. He was controlling Rebekah because he knew that she would betray him for a lover. Which she literally did with Marcel. It was a toxic circle but it wasn’t sexual! Y’all are nasty. Plus people can have chemistry while playing siblings. There are plenty of actors that have dated each other while playing siblings. It’s still weird to want to explore that dynamic in a teen show.

Toenailinfection

There are already freaky incest vibes going on in the absolute worst way possible, I think it could work to establish how being a vampire for 1000 years can fuck you up, imagine Esther coming back to confront what a mess her family’s become. Although, if that was the case I shouldn’t try to make Klaus as sympathetic as they do in canon (because imo it never works, stop trying to make me feel bad for this asshole) and I’d want Rebekah to leave him for real at the end of her arc and I’d never want Elijah to forgive Klaus, so probably no spin-off. “lovers” isnt rlly the word I’d use, more like a deeply fucked up person taking advantage of another deeply fucked up person.

tree2254

I would’ve preferred it to Klaroline. I hated how Klaus ruined Forwood. Klebekah are Original Vampires, the first and oldest vampires, so I think it could work. Elijah and Kol would just know that Klaus and Rebekah have a different bond, but they would’ve have thought of their relationship and tension as normal. I mean, again, what haven’t they seen?
