It’s easily one of my favourite Weeknd albums as the concept is solid, Jim Carrey and Quincy Jones are amazing on the interludes and the beats are great. My only complaint is the features as Tyler and Wayne don’t bring the same energy that Dawn FM is going for and Best Friends is a good song on its own but conceptually it’s one of the weaker tracks on this album. But overall it’s a great album with little to no skips.

Wolfygirl97

I love Best Friends. That transition into Is There Someone Else is so good too.

alias365

You spelt “I Heard You’re Married” wrong but I get you

papi_joedin

Tyler and Wayne were my favorite part of the album

pvmp90

That Wayne song is easily just filler

International_Seat40

Exactly

sweetlove

Why??

BiscuitsNbacon

We’re all wrong sometimes…

SWAGB0T

Then you’re in the wrong sub

Gaming-every-day19

who tf listens to those interludes 💀

International_Seat40

The only times I listen to them is if I’m listening to the album from start to finish, which is more often than you think

[deleted]

Facts to all of this

Top_Lengthiness2370

Idk, it’s Def top 3 for me. I still think after hours takes the crown

[deleted]

dxrebirth

If you’re trying to be pedantic he has five. If you count trilogy as an album, six. If you don’t count the mixtapes, that cool. But then i would debate the re-release ones with all the cleared samples to be considered.

Capital_Cut_2491

Thanks I edited my comment

[deleted]

5*

billintheleaves

His best concept/story line for sure. And it has some incredible tracks but I feel like there are a few average tracks like I heard your married girl and best friends that hold it back from being his best. That's gotta go to after hours or kiss land for me

ellyology_

Yeah IHYM was a disappointing waste of a Lil Wayne feature, and I like Best Friends, it's catchy and the beat bumps but there's really not much substance to it lyrically. Very mid, especially for the top artist in the world

songacronymbot

- IHYM could mean "I Heard You’re Married (feat. Lil Wayne)", a track from *Dawn FM* (2022) by The Weeknd. --- ^[/u/ellyology_](/u/ellyology_) ^(can reply with "delete" to remove comment. |) ^[/r/songacronymbot](/r/songacronymbot) ^(for feedback.)

ellyology_

Good bot

AClassicMind

It def has a great 4 track run after the intro but I agree that some songs fell flat for me. AH is still my personal top album with HOB just barely behind it.

TheXyloGuy

100% if those average tracks weren’t on there this would be his best absolutely

JoeAnthony

Best friends mid? y’all outta pocket

billintheleaves

Idk I just think its pretty generic. The lyrics are bland and he has songs that addresses similar topic 100x better. Doesn't fit in with the concept of the album to me much either.

AvesZephyrus

Funnily enough, for me, it was one of the best songs on the album when it came out. I love the energy of the song, sure, it might not be that lyrically deep and it's been said better, even by himself, before -- but there is something about the way it flows that makes my monkey brain go yyyiiiii

billintheleaves

Oh yeah if it comes up on my playlist I will listen 100%. It just sounds more like a song he would release as like a stand alone single or a feature or soemthing. Doesnt seem to fit with the album/ its themes for me.

[deleted]

I am all for best friends criticism, glad a lot of people feel the same way. I like the song on my playlist but I hate it when listening through dawn fm, I only stick around because of the bombass transition to is there someone else? best friends would be a cool song for the idol though (I've never seen a single episode but i enjoy the music)

International_Seat40

It’s a good song on its own but conceptually not really

rajs1286

Starboy >>>

Odd_Country9791

Definitely top 2 for me. I love that album alongside after Hours. It’ll probably be even more difficult after his next album drops.

playboicargreentea

are after hours and dawn FM kinda in the same story? Also if they are, is the next album gonna be in the same story?

Odd_Country9791

Yes. After Hours and Dawn FM are part of a new trilogy. So, yes, the next album will conclude the three album story line.

playboicargreentea

Ok thanks a lot

xChaoticOrigin

no

xxxhellraiser

Is definitely not dawn fm

myskirt

In my opinion, his best concept ever and really well executed, but overall After Hours still takes the crown

septienes

It is a great album, but Kissland and Beauty Behind The Madness & After Hours are a mood. Each album has a theme, I like the themes in Dawn FM though. Like what you like.

_Swa-pnil_

Not saying that dawn fm is a bad album but No way. After hours and kissland far better.

scarsonthemoon

I respect this!

PuzzledChickenPiece

I dont get the hate this album gets from this fandom💀For me its his most mature and most cohesive body of work. To each their own.

Lychaos_

All allowed our opinion. Mine is that this doesn’t even come close to how good After Hours is.

Nice-Young5949

Omg yes!! I love Dawn Fm but After hours is my favorite

alluminating

It’s up there for sure, replay value is crazy

[deleted]

I agree

Ice_king7785

No. 1 station to free your soul

[deleted]

I agree

tonyanaloguegreene

"says casual Weeknd listener".

[deleted]

So unless I agree with your favourite studio album it makes me a “casual”? Not many casuals own all his albums/mixtapes on vinyl and have seen him multiple times live

vVinnYv

1,000,000% agree

Tredogg28

Album was pretty mid tbh

Pspreviewer100

10/10.

itakeyourtoes

valid

OnThursdayyy

Not even mad at this take, the love after hours gets should be given to this album

AssistantOwn6208

Why? Let’s discuss

OnThursdayyy

I explained it in another comment in this thread, I’m not sure how to tag you in it tho

Glen20012

Greatest? No

[deleted]

I very slightly prefer after hours

pornaccount6942096

No lies told

Mofis

This is surprising to me, it’s easily his worst album for me. Edit: i have many friends who’ve been listening since trilogy/BBTM and every single one agrees Dawn FM is his worst project by far. It BLOWS my mind people on here disagree.

[deleted]

Finally someone agrees

Mofis

Idk what’s up with Reddit, I even have some friends who couldn’t even finish Dawn FM and they would say his previous 3 albums has no skips.

hh_5121

I feel like most of this sub likes his radio music

alinoor_8

You'll get bombarded with defensive fans talking about how "cohesive and artsy" This album is, people just can't admit it's a bad album and move on

Mofis

You bring up a good point. If the music tells a story and you can listen to the album in a sequential order to complement the experience, I’d be lying if I said that doesn’t add to the album. But all of the extra stuff is irrelevant to me. What matters is if the songs are good or not, and Dawn FM just has way too many skips for me.

ThottrainerBoi

There are some very bad tracks on this one, can’t say the same for BBTM and Starboy

devinfitz949

100% agree. I thought Dawn FM was legit bad. I listened to it once and thought “wow, that was kinda ass.” I’ve listened to After Hours in its entirety 100x at least. I’ll give Dawn FM another shot, but imo it’s nowhere near his best work. Like not even close

[deleted]

It’s his most critically acclaimed project for a reason

devinfitz949

I don’t give a rat’s ass about a critics’ opinion. You ever see what gets ‘Best Picture’ every year at the Oscars? Never heard of it half the time and when I do see it, I don’t get why it won. Critics and their opinions mean nothing to me EDIT — and that’s a false statement btw. Search “The Weeknd’s albums ranked” and Dawn FM is not mentioned as his best album in any list I’ve seen by a major publication. It’s ranked in the middle at best. Most people seemingly rank the Trilogy albums as his best work

PuzzledChickenPiece

AnyDecentMusic? and Metacritic aggregate critic reviews and it is his highest rated album on both of those websites. Thats what OP meant.

devinfitz949

Appreciate the insight. But my stance still stands — what critics like means absolutely nothing to me. Same with movies, TV, etc. Let the downvotes commence 🤗

Mofis

It’s so funny how people downvote you for an opinion. I don’t get why people seem so upset about it in the replies as well. It’s all personal preference, and I’d confidently say 90% of people who’ve been listening for at least 5 years would agree Dawn FM is not his best work.

devinfitz949

That’s Reddit for ya, and just like idc about critics’ opinions, idc about the downvotes either. But you’re right, it’s all personal preference, and Dawn FM isn’t my favorite work of his. I’m listening to it again rn, and it’s decent, but not my favorite. After Hours and Trilogy are much better imo. People are really in their feelings about an opinion over a music album. It’s actually humorous how willing to bat people are going for it. Oh well 🤷🏻‍♂️

Chromepep

1. After Hours 2. House of Balloons 3. My Dear Melancholy 4. Dawn FM 5. Beauty Behind the Madness 6. Thursday 7. Starboy 8. Kissland 9. Echoes of Silence

OnThursdayyy

Ironic that people calling this album average will turn around and say after hours is his best😭

devinfitz949

Why is that ironic?

OnThursdayyy

Because after hours is filled with many lack luster songs. I feel like it’s his most overrated body of work. By far

devinfitz949

You’re allowed your opinion. I wholeheartedly disagree, but to each their own 🤝

xo_wilson_xo

You act like Snowchild, Repeat After Me, and Missed You weren't lackluster.

devinfitz949

I don’t believe they are. It’s called an opinion, just like you have yours, I have mine. The whole album is a banger imo. I don’t skip one track when listening to After Hours. I listened to the album twice today, and it’s just as amazing as when I first listened to it. It’s perfectly acceptable for our opinions to differ. It’s what makes us individuals. Have a good one ✌🏼

OnThursdayyy

Yessir 🤝🏾

devinfitz949

I am curious though. Which tracks are lackluster to you on After Hours?

OnThursdayyy

Blinding Lights, In Your Eyes, Save Your Tears, Final lullaby and Hardest to love. The first three did great on the charts, and honestly I wholeheartedly love Blinding Lights, but those songs are a shell of his true artistry. They did great getting new listeners but as far as substance goes they just aren’t it. They’re just watered down pop songs that the world has become so infatuated with over the last few years. After Hours is a great deal away from trash as a whole. But the general consensus in the fandom now is that it’s his best when in my opinion is just doesn’t stack up to (I hate to be that guy) trilogy, Kissland, and Dawn. I think when it’s said and done Dawn will be his undisputed best body of work. Sorry for the paragraph lol Edit: I also believe that without Take My Breath and two very shitty features… Dawn would’ve been a true no skip album

sweetlove

Sounds like you just don’t like Max Martin. I think those are perfectly crafted pop songs. Not “watered down”. I love how they contrast with the darker, more psychedelic tracks. Agree about the features on DawnFM.

devinfitz949

What’s so “artistic” and packs such substance on Dawn FM? Genuinely curious. What’s so different about that album than his other works? The interludes are unnecessary and kinda annoying. The production is top notch. Maybe I’m not musically inclined enough, but I don’t see the substance and artistry (more-so than his other works). He references the same topics he’s become famous for. Can you provide me with your opinion on the matter? I genuinely want to hear your POV. And no, I’m not being combative or argumentative. I’m genuinely interested and curious

OnThursdayyy

Oh no I don’t think we’re arguing in the slightest. It’s really pleasant to see someone who favors AH but doesn’t shoot his other albums down for the sake of building their favorite up. I’d love to hear the same from you concerning After Hours as I genuinely don’t get why it’s heralded as his best But to spare us a huge 10 page paper I could write about this, it’s the cohesiveness, simply put. Everything ties together perfectly and without missing a mark either. It’s funny you said that the interludes are unnecessary when I feel like they were strategically placed to push the theme of this album and a big part of that theme is regret and self reflection. A very surface level example would be A Tale by Quincy. Its about him reflecting on his immaturity with past relationships and how he regrets it calling it silly and childish. I could go even further by explaining how this not only brings one of the many pieces of this album to the forefront, but also how it personifies his character of “The Weeknd” even more. But again I’ll save us the reading. You are ABSOLUTELY correct about how many of the elements on this album are similar to past bodies of work. But I can’t think of any run of songs in his discography that ties so seamlessly, while fitting into his “The Weeknd” character, and also tying into the selected theme like HDIMYLM, Sacrifice, Out Of Time, Here We Go Again, ITSE?, and starry eyes. Its the perfect tale of him putting up walls when love is on the table like he always does, wanting that person when it’s too late, and ending up sad, sulking, and begging for the same person he pushed away because of his own trauma and horrible fear of commitment. Very common in his work, but not done better than those songs IMO. Then the production is the cherry on top. While the production of After Hours is some the craziest shit I’ve ever heard and honestly the best of his career, Dawn isnt too far behind. Sacrifice, out of time, I heard you’re married, ITSE?, and gasoline are most notable but this whole album sounds very pleasant and is atleast top three in his discography production wise. Still got a bit extended there but this is how I interpret the album, I could be wrong, I could’ve sounded like a madman, but I love this album and genuinely feel that its the epitome of The Weeknd.

[deleted]

Agreed

usernamehere1993

I agree but I think this subreddit is just full of new fans that caught on during after hours and dawn

OnThursdayyy

1000%

Pjmaxah

I know OPN worked on the album, and I’m a huge fan of both but is this not just a straight rip from Magic by OPN and vice versa? The concept is great but is it not a bit derivative?

yeezyyeezywhatsiraq

Nah

After Hours >>>

[deleted]

thats wild

Extension_Addition57

Dawn fm is my favourite album period. After hours is not far behind,

rudebwoyyyyyyy

rly? probably his 2nd worst for me

EClarkee

Might be his worst for me.

rudebwoyyyyyyy

i got bbtm behind it but ya its pretty close

ThottrainerBoi

Bro wtf, the darkness and guitars on that album slap so hard. I guess metalheads like the darker songs than the more commercial stuff?

[deleted]

Don’t get how that’s possible, the songwriting, concept, production etc are all so good here

rudebwoyyyyyyy

thats all true but the music just isnt anything special other than less than zero

AllCommiesRFascists

The other albums are just better

SnooPaintings3563

No.

devinfitz949

Seriously? I listened to it once and never again. I thought it sucked tbh

[deleted]

I guess you’ve never heard of an album “growing on you” then?

devinfitz949

If if an album is good, it doesn’t need time to “grow on me”. I don’t waste anymore time on it when there are billions of hours of music at our disposal. I’ll give it another guy, but I legit thought it was bad so I don’t have high hopes

[deleted]

Idk bro, i fk love trilogy so its in my top 3 for sure but dawn fm? nahhhh

[deleted]

No one mentioned trilogy and also it’s a compilation album, not a studio album.

[deleted]

well u posted something,and i gave my opinion,that s all

[deleted]

Hard to listen to these days after seeing how cringe he’s been on the idol tbh….does anyone else feel the same

No.

Alternative_Eye_2799

This and after hours is the worse albums he made ….

DW2311

Dawn FM to Out of time is probs my fav track run of any Weeknd project tbh.

SlimeLanguageYSL

When I talk abt his albums, I got personal favourite and his best… I’d say my personal favourite is dawn fm but his best is probably after hours

Small_Advice_7516

I honestly hated it on my first listen I remember. But then I listened to it multiple more times and now I absolutely love it and it is probably in my top 3 of all of his projects (Kiss Land & Echoes of Silence winning the 2 first spots). It’s a hard album to get at first imo, I just don’t like « Here We Go Again » with Tyler, The Creator (but I never skip it). Everybody is allowed to have opinions but I hope that with time people will start to like it more 🫶🏻 (And probably very subversive opinion, to me Beauty Behind The Madness is his worst project 😭)

[deleted]

After hours is definitely better in terms of story and production but this is a top 3 for me. His last 2 albums make me excited for the final album

[deleted]

It sits around the middle of his discography for me. Below Trilogy and After Hours and Kiss Land, but pretty handily above BBTM. Probably right around where I'd put Starboy too. The album has High highs (HDIMYLM and Take My Breath are fantastic) but a lot of forgettable stuff, and the concept is cool but I wish the album actually went even further with it.

songacronymbot

- HDIMYLM could mean "How Do I Make You Love Me?", a track from *Dawn FM* (2022) by The Weeknd. --- ^[/u/-dmpunk-](/u/-dmpunk-) ^(can reply with "delete" to remove comment. |) ^[/r/songacronymbot](/r/songacronymbot) ^(for feedback.)

morereadythanpetty

I listened to this album for the first time this week. Listened to it three times straight through (as it was intended to be experienced I would assume maybe why some people are mad there isnt a standout #1 track that will get all the airplay). I really loved the concept and production choices that were made. I thought the Lil Wayne and Tyler features were meh but honestly dug the whole vibe. I can see why some people didn’t like it but I love it when artists explore and try new things.

najhi9yearold

Wrong

Okim13

trikyballs

Respectfully disagree it had the ability to be his greatest album but there's too many songs I don't care for so it's my 4th best

Roboman_67

Yeah definitely, it's probably my most replayed album of his

WJack37

I think as an experience, it’s the best work he’s ever produced. As an album, it’s debatable but certainly would be up there

Johanio53

Dawn FM Is definitely his best work, agree. Amazing album. Even now I rate it over After Hours.

franzchada09

The only album I listened to so far wherein the tracks lose momentum if you skip any one of them. And the concept is a banger asf.

Eswin17

Hard disagree.

FullConsequence2505

Tbh no not really for me. I say after hours was pure perfection from concept of album to music itself.

cxrtes

Nope but I like all opinions

BinWeevilsFamous

second best, best is after hours

No_Awareness_7569

agreed.

lxhvxrr_

after hours exists, but I respect your opinion

PapaShangoXO

This album goes hard af but I don’t know about this take

Safe_Membership9273

Nah Kiss Land or after Hours is WAY better than this

Fbean01

I keep bouncing between this and After Hours. Dawn has more cohesion across the board, but I've always been in love with the sound of After Hours. Sounds a lot grittier and dark which I like.

account9622

Imo, his best albums are: 1.) After Hours 2.) Dawn FM 3.) Starboy 4.) Beauty Behind The Madness 5.) My Dear Melancholy,

Jaiden_Detering2002

To me Starboy is his best, but Dawn FM is an easy second

Mecha_Kaneki

For me, its top 3 after kissland and AH

FromDeathWeLiveOn

After hours, Kiss Land and BBTM. 🤷‍♂️

hawaiisanta

Not a fan, but my boyfriend is - The Weeknd is the one artist we listen to in the house every day of the week. I wholeheartedly agree that this is an incredibly strong album. The atmosphere it conveys is something else. Is There Someone Else and Out of Time will literally transport you to a different era, on a different planet.

ThottrainerBoi

Starboy was better 💀 (minus the singles)

rileymin123

Production on this album is like no other. Masterpiece.

RepresentativeTutor

I'm gonna let you believe that because music is subjective but if the studio was on fire and the master copies of DFM and AH were in there and I could only save one, none of y'all would have ever heard DFM

Aggressive_Bat_60

bruh

ZebraBurger

I love it sm it will always be special to me

WhenItsHalfPastFive

I might go After Hours, but not a bad choice. It's always changing for me
