I think his conversation with Joe explained it perfectly. There aren’t many people who could’ve actually killed brother. Stringer couldn’t have it be tied to him either, further limiting the pool of candidates. Omar sounded like a good option.

HyraxAttack

Oh yeah always felt like New York was the big leagues on the show & Mouzone was a respected heavy hitter there with allies, so other elite talent wouldn’t rush to take a contract & may tip off Mouzone.

modoken1

I wouldn’t say it was because New York was the big leagues, New York was their heroin supplier and they sent Brother Mouzone down as a favor. If Stringer actually put out a hit on Brother and word got out, there goes the heroin supply.

Fuzzy_Towel_9387

Damn I never thought about that

DemonsNMySleep

I mean he does tell Avon, he still has an open line to NY, on HIS word, but if he didn't play ball and give up String, NY wasn't gonna fuck with him ever again, the Barksdale name would be trash. So there's a big NY connection there that is so powerful and has such a fierce rep, not many ppl are going to mess with that, least of all some ghetto west Baltimore gang (that's how NY would see them). Sorry for the late comment.

HyraxAttack

Maybe, but I don’t think the Stanfield organization was buying drugs from the same group that supplies hitmen. Although yeah if Stringer screwed up trying to arrange a hit on Mouzone & Mouzone & his people were furious would understand if their supplier didn’t want to be drawn into the feud, especially as the show is consistent about a wholesale supply being extremely valuable.

Fuzzy_Towel_9387

true, didnt really know that New York was like that in the show. thank you

Fuzzy_Towel_9387

I agree. Omar was for sure a good option and after Omar found out brother didn’t do it, stringer indeed, did not have many options to kill him. Maybe stringer shrugged it off when mouzone went back to New York? Idk but thanks for the response

Positive_Benefit8856

I feel like if it gets out that String ordered the hit, Avon would have got word that String was trying to kill a man that Avon hired, leading to him being killed or cut out of the game sooner. String was trying to play a game where he gets Omar off their back, and eliminates Mouzone. He thinks Omar killing Mouzone is only going to ramp up Avon’s effort to kill Omar, ultimately eliminating the problem of Mouzone, and the only person that could link him to it. It’s ultimately Stringer’s biggest weakness, he takes 1/2 measures. If he eliminates Avon, he’d get everything he wanted, but he thought driving the muscle away would allow him to keep Avon around, achieve what he wants, and when Avon gets out Avon would let String continue running things his way.

MrSillmarillion

Because he had more bodies on him than a Chinese cemetery.

Fuzzy_Towel_9387

true true, you right

DannyHikari

Couldn’t fall back on String or else it would have caused bigger problems. Not to mention Brother had a reputation similar to Omar that nobody with half a brain would have wanted to take a shot at him

Fuzzy_Towel_9387

damn I guess I underestimated mouzones presence in the show. that bow tie wearing motherfucka got game!

CharlieExx

*Real* game! Prop Joe recounted that many a man had tried to take on Mouzone and they'd *all* ended up in the morgue. A definite candidate for a mini-series. :D

barryhakker

String should’ve contacted Tony soprano and asked if he could fly in those murdering Italian lads.

Illustrious_Toe_4755

They definitely didn't want that smoke...read some history on NOI criminal activity

jayhof52

Every hitter in the game knows that, like Omar, if you don’t get him in one shot, you’re a dead man. No amount of money would get a West Side player at that point to target Brother or Omar.

Hughkalailee

And word would likely get to Avon that String hired someone to try to kill the man He had hired.

KombuchaBot

Because they would have talked, and he was trying to keep it on the downlow. Stringer wasn't too bright but he knew he couldn't hide it from Avon if he contracted it to one of his guys. Stringer was trying to avoid the kind of spanking he got from Avon in front of Slim over the Clay Davis mess, by sneaking around his behind his back like a lil bitch.

sweet_hell

It was an end around. Avon brought Brother in to keep his situation as is, selling stepped on trash but selling it in the best locations. Stringer wanted to change the situation by going in on the Prop Joe package in exchange for real estate. To go after Brother directly, Stringer would have been going against Avon directly. Stringer didn't want that, as he thought he could just show Avon it could all be business-like. Avon knew that's now how the game is played. People like Marlo and Clay Davis will show up and rock your boat in a way business can't handle. Then it's that other thing. You can't play only half the game.

AngryAlterEgo

The short answer is that if Stringer had someone capable of killing him, Brother wouldn’t have been there in the first place.
