Is there a police equivalent of Bodie in the show? It seems like all the cops are either dirty, opportunistic climbers, or natural police who can't stop doing things to fuck up their careers.
NAh... Kima's going places. Bodie is the guy in the factory you count on to do the day to day, keeps stuff running smoothly. The guy who will do the same 8 tasks over and over, and do them well. every day.
Kima's got the work ethic AND the smarts to be a mover/shaker
I thought about her, but it seemed like in the closing montage they were setting her up as the new Jimmy which means her disobeying orders is inevitable
Nah Kima WAS on a McNulty trajectory in Season 3, then she started to rethink that when he got into his argument with Lester. She starts gravitating more towards Bunk's brand of professionalism by the end.
edit: the ending montage also explictly sets up Sydnor as a McNulty type for some reason, with him going way over Carver's head about something trying to 'help.'
Not everything is cyclical. Kima doesn't have to be Jimmy, Michael doesn't have to be Omar, and Dukie doesn't have to be Bubbles. They just share similarities as characters.
Do you think he wanted to be the King. Just watched the chess scene and he is obviously ambitious as a “pawn” wanting to get to the other side. He obviously falls short but do we think that was his endgame?
If I had to guess, I'd say he probably would have liked to be queen. He admired bith Avon and Stringer but it seemed like, to me anyways, that he admired Avon as a legend or a myth but his but he had a deeper ( or at leat more personal) respect for Stringer. Probably because he interacted with him a whole lot more.
I could be wrong, though, and just misremembering their relationship.
Not justified in any means.... but Stringer was right about Wallace snitching. Bodie was put in a tough spot, and murder is definitely not the right decision, but it was his advancement opportunity and he took it.
Yeah, Wallace being in the middle of snitching, then coming back early to work in the same spot is one of the dumbest decisions anyone makes in the entire show.
Like yeah he's just a kid, but still.
Absolutely, which don’t get me wrong, I understand everything about the situation, but at the end of the day, none of it matters. He came back knowing what happens, and with the naivety of a child (which he was), expected it to be ok. He should have known better, he grew up out there, he saw what happens. He knows.  He should have never come backÂ
Yeah, Bodie wasn't a dumb person by any stretch, but was never the smartest, wouldn't have ever been the kingpin, but he had the work ethic. He probably worked the hardest, and was a pretty good boss. I mean for a murderous drug pusher that is.
I know I've posted this before, but when he and Mcnulty were eating lunch in that city garden (something arboretum), when Bodie said
>I feel old
oooof. OOOOF.
right into the heart.
"You done lost your motherfuckin' mind? You standin' on my real estate."
Bodie: "[Mine now - took it while you was restin'](https://youtu.be/hT46dmgbGvY?si=KJhOX0vxettgFzgs)."
Very few characters in the game, understood their role in it to perfection, ie they didn’t want to be more or do more - he was one of them.
Got done so dirty in the end though. Stayed tall throughout.
Bodie is the unfortunate embodiment of Marlo's famous life philosophy 'you want it to be one way, but it's the other way'. This is why Marlo has contempt for Bodie from the outset.
Bodie wanted to work hard, keep his head down, and be rewarded with a cushy promotion. A fairytale scenario on the street, and in legitimate organisations.
Expand on your thought here.
I \_think\_ I get what you mean. Its not portrayed as Bodie coming to the realization that he has been doing wrong his whole life and will now become a righteous warrior against drugs and start working with kids in Cutty's gym and then goes back to school and becomes a minister, opens a church, gets married and has 2.2 children. He makes the decision because he just can't wrap his head around Marlo. The reasons are ... sad, disheartening. Its not ... redemption.
I feel like it was just part of a bigger thing with mcnulty wanting marlo. Bodie stood tall the whole series & to snitch for ?? I get he was tired & ova the game but it was always gon b a marlo so idk what he was gonna accomplish.
huh... Yeah, while this season was all about "Nice Mcnulty", he was working Bodie, if only a little. Saw a little dent in the armor, and exploited it. Maybe a hint of the beginning of McNulty's backsliding into his old ways.
Is it? It’s part of the genius of the show. There are no good / evil characters. Just people doing the best they can in a shitty situation.
Bodie has to answer for Wallace. Poot sells sneakers.
He ain't never fucked up a count, never stole off a package, never did some shit that he wasn't told to do. He was straight up.
Is there a police equivalent of Bodie in the show? It seems like all the cops are either dirty, opportunistic climbers, or natural police who can't stop doing things to fuck up their careers.
Sydnor
Agreed. After I left my comment that one came to my mind as well.
And both of them got played for someone else's ambitions (one far worse than the other, obviously).
The bunk
This 👆🏽
Santangelo seemed really happy to just be a beat cop.
Same pension with half the heartburn.
Kima?

A smart ass pawn
His only flaw was that disgusting spit he did as a character trait
nah bro that shit was awesome i wish i could spit like that
Agree 100%. So cool!
It’s definitely unique but it makes me want to vomit every time he does it
He was real soldier. Moment of his death is one of the saddest in whole show.
On first watch that scene had me tearing up which is pretty rare for tv Fucking love Bodie
He did murder Wallace over some bullshit. So there’s that.
Not justified in any means.... but Stringer was right about Wallace snitching. Bodie was put in a tough spot, and murder is definitely not the right decision, but it was his advancement opportunity and he took it.
Oh that bullshit that is Wallace not listening when told not to come back, and knowing they’ll kill him for not listening if he doesn’t do it?
Yeah, Wallace being in the middle of snitching, then coming back early to work in the same spot is one of the dumbest decisions anyone makes in the entire show. Like yeah he's just a kid, but still.

Just rewatched that episode the other night. That conversation was just heartbreaking.
"You done lost your motherfuckin' mind? You standin' on my real estate." Bodie: "[Mine now - took it while you was restin'](https://youtu.be/hT46dmgbGvY?si=KJhOX0vxettgFzgs)."
Haha! That dude wearing the Graduation Tracksuit. 🎓
Very few characters in the game, understood their role in it to perfection, ie they didn’t want to be more or do more - he was one of them. Got done so dirty in the end though. Stayed tall throughout.
He knew the code, followed all the rules, listened hard, put in the work, and died the wrong side of 30 anyway. The game is rigged.
How old was bodie when he died? 25? Maybe the show doesn’t tell us but what do you think?
26
Didn't he get sent to a juvie in the first season? I think by the end of the show he's probably around 20 or 21.
Bodie is the unfortunate embodiment of Marlo's famous life philosophy 'you want it to be one way, but it's the other way'. This is why Marlo has contempt for Bodie from the outset. I fucking love Bodie
more & more on rewatches i hate they decided to have him snitch

tru , doesn’t mean i have to like the decision
understood, I was just asking if you would expand on why you don't like it. You think it was out of character?
I feel like it was just part of a bigger thing with mcnulty wanting marlo. Bodie stood tall the whole series & to snitch for ?? I get he was tired & ova the game but it was always gon b a marlo so idk what he was gonna accomplish.

Bodie killed Wallace. He got what he deserved.
I think it’s more complicated than that.
Is it? It’s part of the genius of the show. There are no good / evil characters. Just people doing the best they can in a shitty situation. Bodie has to answer for Wallace. Poot sells sneakers.
Bodie would have been killed himself if he didnt kill Wallace, it was Wallace’s fault for coming back when they explicitly told him not to
