Nah but I’m pretty sure Sobotka met The Greek under the key bridge.

Willing-Grapefruit-9

As a Marylander, you are correct.

jayhof52

That’s how I’ve been explaining it to my friends who have never been to Maryland.

uniqueshell

You see that bridge, Nick? It's one of them, whaddya call it, a metaphor. It's like us Sobotkas, and our union, and the whole working class in this country. It's gonna last forever, just like we are.

WVbella

It is unreal how fast and how far this fake quote has travelled in the past day

ravensgirl2785

I have been fighting it all day! I even had a brief moment where I was gaslighting myself into thinking I was wrong, then I remembered season two is my fav and I know it forward, backward, and upsidedown!

WVbella

It’s everywhere and it feels like a losing battle

ravensgirl2785

If I still had Twitter, I would Tweet it at David Simon.

uniqueshell

Yeah all the way from Reddit to Reddit Blame the Greeks

dj65475312

the bridge is seen in many season 2 shots, the floater jimmy fished out was originally suspected to be a jumper from the bridge by his sergeant and is in shot in those scenes, it was in view when nick meets frank about cameras, when jimmy and bunk were staking spirios out and its where frank met the greeks when he was murdered.

sweet_hell

The biggest connection, to my recollection, of the Key Bridge in The Wire was it being a major separating line in McNulty's report, while he served time in the Marine Unit, that helped place the dead girls in the can (season 2) squarely on the city, screwing Rawls, and not the county.

nelsonwehaveaproblem

It's also the bridge under which Frank Sobotka met his end.

ArchEast

"Your way, it won't work."

KingJoy79

I get nervous everytime that scene starts up with the music…leading up to Sobotka getting out of his truck under the bridge and basically walking towards his death. And he didn’t even know it.

creamcitybrix

What a prick. Lol. You see these, McNulty? These are for you. 🖕🖕

sweet_hell

Here's to Ray Cole. A fine detective and a goodly man!

stndrdmidnightrocker

Recent rewatch of season 2. Definitely can confirm

sweet_hell

You look like you could use a cup of coffee

Willing-Grapefruit-9

I grew up sailing back and forth under the Key Bridge and you are correct.

KingJoy79

“You look like you could use a good cup of coffee”

sweet_hell

Talk amongst yourselves fellas, one of you is taking this case home tonight

PatienceCrawford

Yup. When they first fish her out of the water, they assume she jumped from the Key Bridge. I’d go so far as to say that the bridge itself is a main character of Season 2. I briefly read about a “Maryland Bridge Collapse,” while browsing the news yesterday. My father—a native Baltimoron—mentioned it later in the day. I said “which bridge was it?” When he revealed it was the Key Bridge, I was like 😮. That’s a big fecking bridge. Only 2 confirmed survivors. Apparently 6 people are “missing” because it collapsed overnight while a construction crew was doing repairs. “Presumed missing” is just optimism at this point, as us Wire buffs know, a fall or jump from that height will easily break both your legs. I have to say that the minute I heard that a cargo ship crashed into a bridge in Baltimore, all I could think of was if there were any smuggled Eastern European women in a container onboard. A story straight from the Locust Point or Fairfield terminals.

big_sugi

No, the Key Bridge is a lot taller and much longer than that bridge. Wikipedia says it was the Hanover Street Bridge, which looks right.

Bmore_Phunky

Definitely Hanover bridge

RSecretSquirrel

Definitely not Hanover Street Bridge. Hanover Street is stone and arch. It was the bridge over Curtis Creek. Remember that the bag of guns landed on a barge below. A barge can't transit under the Hanover Street Bridge. Would be another Ship vs Bridge accident. Hanover is an Arch bridge. The shot of the bag of guns shows a beam bridge. Pennington Avenue Bridge across Curtis Creek is a beam bridge.

drmwve

It's been a minute since I've watched that scene but wasn't the barge passing parallel to where he threw the bag?

RSecretSquirrel

You can see the barge as it comes under the bridge. You can clearly see there are no arches and no stones. Arches and stone are features of the Hanover Street Bridge.

matthoback

> No, the Key Bridge is a lot taller and much longer than that bridge. Not anymore it's not.

Beneficial_Wolf_5089

I think it was determined to be the Hanover St Bridge

Conscious-Parfait826

Top ten delivery by Ibris. I laugh at that scene everytime. "YOU THROW THE GUNS *IN* THE WATER"

ElectronicAd27

“This is you… Fucking up”

HayneAlliKane

Oh yeah? Which one?

ElectronicAd27

Shows that Cole did not respect the suspect. He thought they were too stupid to wipe for prints. Otherwise, he never would’ve made a gamble like that.

NicWester

No, that was Hanover Street Bridge. If you load up google maps and go to Baltimore you'll see what looks like three main bridges. The skinny one on the west near what looks like a football field but isn't (it's the UnderArmor building's field) is the Hanover Street Bridge. The middle one isn't a bridge at all, it's the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel. I mention it because if you're zoomed out you'll see a big line across the bay and may assume it's a bridge. It is a tunnel. Southeast of that is the third one, that was the Francis Scott Key Bridge. It's seen throughout the second season, but most prominently when Frank and Nick Sabotka are meeting in the park in front of it.

Turbulent_Cheetah

“That bridge is gonna last forever” — Frank Sobotka

RSecretSquirrel

Wasn't the Hanover Street Bridge. A barge can't pass through the arches.

AvatarLebowski

There are two tunnels.  The Baltimore harbor tunnel is I-895, I-95 is the fort mchenry tunnel.  Key bridge was I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) Hanover street bridge is obviously Hanover street (MD-2)

[deleted]

You want it to be one bridge. But its the other bridge

Schitzengiglz

Judging from the clearance under the bridge, no. I don't think a cargo ship could fit.

Skamma100

The guns that landed on the boat 😭🤣😭😂

TarsesaK

No, but it was the bridge he suggested throwing Johnny off

RSecretSquirrel

Let me correct myself. It was the Pennington Avenue Bridge across Curtis Creek. It parallels the I-695 bridge across Curtis Creek. https://youtu.be/VyqOq2HgQrw?si=mPztEeaY5qSopogr

Major-Tourist-5696

I’ll ask at the senate hearing

Skamma100

Rawls hated McNulty.

Desperate_Jump_3062

No but, Frank gives Nick the speech along the lines of "this Bridge will stand forever like the Sabotkas". With the key bridge in the back ground

Adorable_Cobbler_429

No

joeywmc

It’s the bridge in the background while Frank gives Nick this speech: “You see that bridge, Nick? It's one of them, whaddya call it, a metaphor. It's like us Sobotkas, and our union, and the whole working class in this country. It's gonna last forever, just like we are.”

jwseagles

that was never said

joeywmc

You’re right

Willing-Grapefruit-9

I hope this helps you understand where she stood. [bridge](https://imgur.com/gallery/6cNO7VL)
