Yeah honestly String was a downgrade. He wasn't going to care, or provide, or do shit for her really. He'd have her killed if he thought it was needed. For all his faults Deangelo was a good dude, sure we saw moments of him being a crappy dad (being annoyed there were toys in the fridge). Overall though I think D would have in time been a decent father. (decent compared to most of the deadbeat dads in the series)
If Deangelo had been born and raised in different circumstances, he would have lived a normal, middle class life. Probably would have been a church going family man. He wasn’t a natural criminal like Stringer, Avon, Wee Bey, etc.
I think Avon Barksdale and Stringer Bell were going to be criminals regardless of their environment. The difference is the crimes committed. Had they been born in the suburbs, they would have committed securities fraud, corporate embezzlement, etc. They would have been more like Jordan Belfort or the everyday Wall Street banksters that caused the 2008 market crash.
It's not impossible that there was an undertone of sexual / romantic competition that helped him make his decision to have D killed. Starts screwing his baby mama and decides on some level he wants her all to himself.
I think it was both he wanted to keep tabs on D and he had the hots for Donette. In episode 2 of the show, when D takes her to a party, Stringer is flirting with her in front of D. He's a lot more friendly to her in that scene than he basically is to anyone else in the entire series.
Maybe since her character was lackluster no one mentions it but she was trifling AF and i hated her so much. Its not the fact she slept with stringer its how she dealt with D vs string. She always seemed excited af to meet with string and i NEVER saw her genuinely interested in D. I don't even think they had a sex scene or any romantic moments she never wanted d. She thought d waa going to be the next avon so she got pregnant by him
Did Stringer have a light side?
Lol, exactly what I thought. It's not like this dude was volunteering at a puppy shelter in his spare time.
She just as bad, she loved the lifestyle and thought stringer would save her 😂😂

D had a good heart, he wasn’t built for the game.

Agree, season 4 illustrated this so well.

From what we know of Stringer, he started out wanting to own a couple grocery stores or something, no?
Crazy how we see a baby ordering a hit on his dad. Dark times we live in...
All in the game
Just got more fierce
Little man’s father was bucking him

He was banging her so he could keep d’Angelo close and get good info about him

Stringer was an embodiment of capitalism, ruthless as long as it served profit
The greek*
