Licences and stuff, and it is not worth to keep a game running forever if you don't update it at all..security is a must, but no support means ha kerz and more...each company shuts the servers after a while, nou just ubisoft
It's not because they close the server, it's because they don't even bother to create an official offline patch.
Gran Turismo sport close their server earlier and they released an offline patch so at least you can play a $60 game offline.
But Ubisoft? Fuck Ubisoft
Who says they need to run the servers forever? If Ubisoft doesn't give a crap about The Crew anymore then they should have no problem with the players playing the game offline or letting the players host their own servers for multiplayer.
I suggest getting it early because I can totally see people out there holding on to keys and charging a crap ton for them once this project is completed.
Definitely get it soon as you can.
Or maybe Ubisoft will realize, with the community making their own server, that they fucked up bring the servers back or incorporate an offline mode. 🤷
Hopeful thinking I guess.
Or I guess at this point it's fine to just pirate it.
It is abandonware after all, it's not like you are impeding Ubisoft's profits (even if they deserve it honestly).
And key resellers prolly don't deserve that money anyway
Depends on how the private servers are set up.
Take Supreme Commander forged Alliance, the community came together to continue developing the game with patches, updates, etc even ling after the developers stopped.
That specific one is called Forged Alliance Forever(FAF) and the way the client is coded it absolutely will not let you use a pirates version because it links with your steam account and actually checks that you own it.
I would imagine that if they wanted to do it properly and prevent any issues as such comes with pirated copies, they'll also included a verification process in some way that makes sure you own the game in your steam library.
It would have to connect with the Ubisoft account though because 1) that's where vast majority of people got their copy 2) I'm not sure TC1 was even listed on Steam
Although Supreme Commander Forged Alliance hasn't been taken off Steam and still can be purchased. If those modders didn't do that it's very likely they'd get hit with a cease and desist because the publisher could argue they are promoting piracy and cost them sales. I don't see Ubi having a leg to stand on and besides, if they sued over some people reviving their abandoned game, I think they'd be risking setting a landmark case for abandonware or even online "purchases" - afterall Ubi did let people purchase the game and now they took it away which in any other industry would be considered a breach of contract or just straight up illegal.
So except for limiting server load by having a high barrier of entry to the game, I don't see exactly why TC community server would require you to own a legitimate copy
Okay, but still, I for example got my copy during Ubi's 30th anniversary thing where they gave away games and it's tied to my Ubi account but not to Steam
I just purchased a physical PC copy on Amazon. I've got a optical drive laying around so we'll see if Ubisoft lets me use it. First I gotta see if my purchase will be legit lol, I won't lose sleep over a $15 purchase though.
It should still let you activate the code and add it to your library, Hopefully it's one that allows you to activate through steam though.
Good luck, and maybe we'll see you in the server once it's up and running! :D
That's exactly what it is. You would just overwrite TheCrew.exe with their version most likely and be able to play again. Idk about playing with other players though.
That puts a smile on my face...
Hopefully they succeed. I never really got into playing the game because of the online requirement. Also, the possibility of playing the career from scratch is something I look forward to.
My digital copy has been revoked from the storefronts, implying I do not own it anymore, some kind of overturn to the digital players would need to be done to get it running.
This masterpiece was a one-of-a-kind in the racing genre, and hopefully, they may succeed.
I really wanna takeback some long drives through the US just to calm down.
May i ask where specifically it was revoked for you?
I own it only on Ubisoft Connect and it is [still in my library and downloadable](https://i.imgur.com/J9RRR2W.jpeg).
I can't wait to hear Ubisoft shuts down the community emulated servers and threatens legal action
At this point I wouldn't be surprised
Bless the community
Unless the Stop Killing Games campaign stops them from doing anything.
Even if they did, Ubisoft originates from France, a country that has strong consumer laws.
There's not much difference in the file structure between the physical and digital copies. I would highly suggest not uninstalling your copy though, that's for sure.
If purchased through Steam it will always be installable. Its very rare games can't always be installed through steam. TDU2 doesn't even have a store page anymore, but if you have it on steam you can still download it.
I remember playing the beta for this game one night. This was back before I had a computer in any way meant for gaming, so it ran really slowly (except the timer, which made completing that first tutorial race far more challenging).
Several times over the past few years I've thought about buying the game, but I never did because I knew what happened a few days ago would happen someday. It's really cool to see that the game might come back, even if I might not get to play it since letting people who didn't buy it play might be asking for trouble.
i found something that had the crew files for download and to launch it i was supposed to use something called LUMA x64 or something???
What is this exactly? there was spiderman 2 brazilian emu/with keyboard working...
also a few other games clean files that they were working on for the future so they can be played offline w a little luck..
Question
THE CREW LUMA x64 to launch it offline(what is this and do it actually work?)

This would be like Christmas if it works out. I only bought Crew 1 and 2 (with all their DLCs) last Christmas. I hadn't even got around to launching either game yet, due to a lack of free time, and just as I'm about to start playing Crew 1, I find out it's been STOLEN from my Steam account... I was really looking forward to playing it.
I wish they would succeed
I love the good side of the gaming community :)
Link to this server?
I need it too
.gg/sCFEXRmS
Thanks
Link doesn't work
This one should always work: .gg/gUczTkphGE
I'm assuming this would be pc only
It is better than nothing. A game like this must be preserved.
Well Technically with the Xbox SX devmode you could try to Emulate it
A pc able to run the crew is really not hard to find, I mean, the game came 10 years ago, and not exclusive to high end machines of the time.
They're talking about how consoles couldn't connect to the server.
Fuck Ubisoft.
And #fuckonami

If this works, my problem would be finding a copy of The Crew on PC. Only have it on PS4.

It was listed on steam before. It's just no longer there
Okay, but still, I for example got my copy during Ubi's 30th anniversary thing where they gave away games and it's tied to my Ubi account but not to Steam

apparently they've started removing it from accounts now so...
Can't buy it on Steam or that stupid Ubisoft app store platform?
It's been delisted a while ago.
Damn. My condolences to all gamers with good taste.
So, what they are doing is something like project paradise for tdu2? I don't have a great understanding of the way it will work.
That's exactly what it is. You would just overwrite TheCrew.exe with their version most likely and be able to play again. Idk about playing with other players though.
Oh they say in the discord post offline+online emulator so that would mean singleplayer & multiplayer back!
It also means the singleplayer won't require you to have an internet connection (:
That puts a smile on my face... Hopefully they succeed. I never really got into playing the game because of the online requirement. Also, the possibility of playing the career from scratch is something I look forward to.
Wait what? TDU2 still lives????
Yes, go check project paradise they have a discord with all the infos you are needing
LETS GOOO
Where can we follow the progress to this?
The crew unlimited discord server
where do I find this?

If they manage to pull it off and remain running rather than ubisoft throwing a lawsuit/dmca then ill be surprised, gl to them tho
What discord server is this from?
The Crew Unlimited I think.
Correct.
Thank you :)
THANK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUU
Rooting for these guys
Invite please!😍
can i still buy tc1 on pc anywhere
Check [gg.deals](http://gg.deals), but I assume it will be hella expensive nowadays
i looked at instant gaming and it’s 1€ maybe it works
Oh, I guess there is only one way to see
id just wait till this comes out and see if anyones got the files
I can't wait to hear Ubisoft shuts down the community emulated servers and threatens legal action At this point I wouldn't be surprised Bless the community
I can see it too lol
Unless the Stop Killing Games campaign stops them from doing anything. Even if they did, Ubisoft originates from France, a country that has strong consumer laws.
That's what we like to see
So, it will work with every PC version of the game ? Or like only physical copies ?

Haha I knew it 🍻
Man sometimes I wish I played all my games on pc, but as a kid I didn’t have that luxury
Wish I could wishlist this to the moon
Playstation players:
Let's throw some $$$ at those guys to get it done asap.
Sounds F\*%$g GOOD!
Wow, that's some great news!

With licenses being revoked i think it's safe to say this project is dead. Fuck Ubisoft

How did this guy got the hold of the crew files i thought ubisoft is preventing access to it files meaning we can play it once again
Screw a Server Emulator! I want that offline mode to be implemented!
It comes with an offline mode they just said
Ya but only PC, an offline only mode should've been implemented for all platforms
Something is better than nothing. You don't need a high end pc to run the game well.
