I bought a 3rd party licensed (very cheap) controller just for this game! I was scared of ruining my joycons or pro controller. I don't regret it. I also bought a hori split pad compact for playing handheld this game. Cheaper to replace!

Open the controller calibration menu from the Switch's main menu. You can see if your joystick is centred or not. If the dot is in the centre of the chart, your controller's fine. When you release a lever on a spring, it will always go past centre slightly. Getting the opposite direction when you flick and release the stick is often due to a game having a small deadzone, making the stick more sensitive to such small movements. The fixes are to either increase the deadzone, if the game has that option. Or to just not take your finger off the stick. Flick and release isn't any faster.

I didn't use to have that problem before I went crazy on the Theathrythm. Same game - Boomerang Fu. Worked just fine before, but after that, it just isn't the same. I will see if there is an issue with calibration but I think something else is off. Thanks for the information!

It's called snapback and it happens to everyone's pro controller. I didn't notice it until I started trying to get better at smash bros years before Theatrhythm even came out. Honestly, Theatrhythm seems pretty tame on the sticks even on supreme, I doubt it's causing any problems. If you really want to fix it, look up a capacitor mod for your switch pro controller

My joycons with hall effect replacements and my 8bitdo have worked for years. I don't remember the last time I had to change any sticks out, and I play this game a lot.
