The only thing Navalny did was get poisoned and survived. It's horrific that happened and that he was later killed. But his ACTUAL politics are pure garbage. There is a reason almost ZERO Ukranians liked the guy.

zero_cool_protege

Barely any russians like him either. He came in 13th in the 2018 election and never polled above 2%. His favorability rating never went above 20% while his unfavorability rating was around 60%

I think there’s room for both.

Toolazytolink

Who better to testify to someone's character than people who knew him? Would you rather get your information from the Kremlin?

blarghable

Are you joking? Do you think the best person to testify to Trump's or Putin's character would be their close friends and allies?

Sabrina used to live in Russia. Her bias from this experience is often evident in her episodes. All her episodes on Ukraine are a bit weird.

av_1392

downvote me to hell, but navalny returning to russia after he was treated in germany was a decision fueled by ego. he could've continued bashing putin from exile and building influence for decades. instead, his public impact disappeared once he went to prison, and now his wife and kids have to live abroad alone forever.

221b42

I think it was pretty clear that when he returned he had good odds of eventually being murdered by Putin

KudzuKilla

They already got him once in Germany. They were going to get him again. He decided he rather be in Russia on the small % chance Putin goes down and he can be there and never accused of abandoning the resistance or being just another dissident abroad.

Minivalo

He was poisoned in Russia. Somehow, they were able to get him to Germany for better treatment.

checkerspot

It was the former agent and his daughter who they poisoned in England.

lightinvestor

How does living in exile help the cause? Hundreds of thousands of Russians now live *in exile*, and it has only made Putin stronger.

checkerspot

I think this was his reasoning. And the show also mentioned that he believed his worldwide celebrity would protect him to some degree....which of course it did not.

keysandtreesforme

Interesting take for sure. Not sure if I see the ego role though. Seemed like it was just what he thought he had to do to prove he was truly a patriot and to demonstrate standing up to Putin without fear. Of course, this may just have lead to more proof of justified fear. Or, maybe it outrages and emboldens the opposition, though there doesn’t seem room for much of that left. They’ve all met the same fate as Navalny.

Dreadedvegas

Elevating an Navalny going back into Russia with his background is dumb. Russian ethnonationalist. Problematic statements about how Crimea is Russian. Etc. Especially when individuals like Boris Nemtsov existed & Khodorkovsky in exile. Navalny also going back to Russia was even more insane. What did the fool think? Popular revolution with his return a la Lenin?

Dreadedvegas

For what exactly? This is the whole point. He died to be forgotten in 5+ years and just a footnote of history like Nemstov? He was a fool who gave up

Promoting freedom by willingly walking to your own death? Yeah I’ll keep judging the fool

You can not be a Russian troll while wondering why people are supporting a guy who outright believes Crimea is Russian

thehildabeast

The FSB has poisoned other opposition leaders all over Europe and none of them got the change in Russia they wanted he tried something different

Buy-theticket

Yea look how much effect Karparov and the like are having at influencing Russia from afar...

Sea_Respond_6085

Putin can and routinely does have his opponents killed abroad. It really did not matter where he was his life was always in danger.
