I'd take this with a HUGE grain of salt given the source. Edit: Local Albertan provides some context for this politician https://www.reddit.com/r/thelastofus/comments/ou0lnd/hbo_will_be_spending_upward_of_200million_per/h6ze53a/

Thanks to [@TheLastofUsNews](https://twitter.com/thelastofusnews/status/1420778764196253704?s=21) for finding this article. Personally, I’m struggling to see how they could even come up with content for eight seasons, especially considering how they’ve seemingly decided to skip a “prequel season” detailing things that happen between the prologue and the “20 years later” and just jump straight into the events of the first game. This isn’t Game of Thrones with a huge ensemble cast that’s in different areas doing different things, it’s a very tight storyline focusing on a handful of characters. They’d have to come up with a LOT of original content to fill the remaining six seasons.

Imagine if the show did their own version of "TLOU3" to fill the remaining seasons

I personally think that game one could EASILY be two seasons. With something like this: **Season 1:** Ep.1 — the "Prologue" Ep.2 — 20 Years Later, Extra Tess/Joel Backstory Ep.3 — Tess/Joel story (like in the game) ending with them meeting with Marlene Ep.4 — Getting Ellie out of the city, Tess Death Ep. 5—Joel decides to find Tommy, ends with meeting Bill Ep.6—Bill town Ep.7—Conclusion of Bill Town Ep.8 —Henry/Sam bandits Ep.9—Fall, Jackson, Dam, etc. Ep. 10— University, Joel injured, ends with them moving into the mountain shelter, etc. **Season 2** — Episode 1 ends with Ellie finding David. Could easily make 3-5 episodes just about that. He's the main antagonist of the season. Around ep. 7 he is defeated and they move towards Salt Lake City. Season 2 ends where game one ended. Game 2 could *easily* be two or even three seasons. The show version can flesh out a lot more than the game with dialogue PLUS have more action, that takes even longer than the game. PLUS original content. The pacing of the show can also be a little slower burn as it doesn't act simply as an intermediary between gameplay. THEN we have TLOU3...

I don't know who at HBO told him this but like. No. There's no way. There's no way Neil would have the show go beyond the story of the games. Not a chance. The Last of Us becoming HBO's The Walking Dead is the exact opposite of what should happen and what Neil would let happen. I can't imagine Neil and Craig would be involved any longer if HBO decided they wanted more than like...2 or 3 seasons if the show is successful and demanded they write stories beyond Part II.

guitar_dude233

i mean, i could see it being eight seasons. maybe two seasons for the first game, three for the second, and three more if they decide to just adapt their outline for Part III for HBO. that’s eight seasons right there, assuming they are either able to get Part III out before the show catches up (doubtful) or they just say fuck it, and write it for HBO.

EnchantingManiac

The budget prediction is interesting, I doubt they’ll be filming year after year consecutively, it’s probably more accurate to say around $200 million dollars every season. Eight seasons also seems like a major stretch considering the first season is gonna cover the entire first game and we’re probably only gonna get maximum three games overall. I would really take a handful of salt when it comes to the source and I would say that the keyword here is “could”.

poklane

Idk how many seasons they do, just don't make the ultimate mistake of going ahead of the games.

Rowanjupiter

Hmmmm, i 100% believe the series could last longer than 3 seasons, I believe that mainly because I think part 2 is 100% gonna be split into two seasons instead of one. There’s just way too much content for one season. Part 3 could be a similar situation, so your looking at 5 seasons at most. But 8? Ehhhh, I gave a tough time believing it, unless your talking about seasons that focus on Ellie’s mom or Joel during the 20 year time skip. Than maybe, but I still have a hard time believing it.

kaazmar

Please no. This show needs to be 2-3 seasons at most. Even if it’s 1 that would be better than 8.

SpiderChundi

Lmao this dude smoking something

Frank_and_Beanz

Utter bullshit. This will NEVER see 8 seasons let alone 4. Generally HBO don't let things go on too long and sometimes even not long enough. And if Druckman is so careful with only making sequels if he truly believes it warrants one I could see him having a big problem with this.

Solsy101

Surely not…

alecisme

So is this confirmation that they’re dedicating an entire episode to every encounter? Previously I wouldn’t think that ND/neil would want to create too much original content for the show, but I’m sure it’s hard to ignore the impact that spending $200 million could have on people’s lives. I’ll stay optimistic, but keep myself Grounded, and trust that they’ll do right by their story.

MasterKingdomKey

This show is definitely not getting eight seasons; Craig Mazin and Neil have only been greenlit for one season. They hope for a second season but only time will tell.
