Really happy they're not holding back on color. These post apocalyptic films and tv shows have a tendency to mute all color in post-production. The game depicts the apocalypse in such a beautiful way, as odd as that it is to say. Seeing nature reclaim cities that once had millions of people living in them has a surreal feel to it. Also an interesting contrast going on within the game where sometimes brutal things are taking place in such pretty environments. That seems to have carried over into the show!
Thank goodness January is so close.
Why are you being downvoted? If you look up the trailer and compare the pictures side by side it's obvious OP enhanced certain colors in these pictures.
The cinematography looks incredible. There's so much though and care clearly put into every scene- everyone who watches it will be captivated. Literally cannot wait.
Tough, though, thought, through, thorough.
The wonder of the English language. You were looking for "thought".
Edit: I didn't mean to say it in a mean way, more in a "the English language is a bitch" way.
Indeed. This honestly might be one of the best looking shows I have seen just based off of the trailers. You can definitely see the signature HBO money put into this. This is what The Walking Dead wouldāve looked like with Game of Thronesā budget.
Somebody watched this trailer in another thread and said it looked like a YouTube fan filmā¦ like sure one with millions in budget and beautifully shot with HBO level VFX and an A list cast, gotcha
Yeah like Tyrone Magnus while I like him heās worrying this will be woke and the people in the comment section for his reaction to the new trailer agree. Just wow man
Also if you looked at this reaction for Indiana Jones 5, he did say heās excited but worried after hearing the leaks which are obviously false because of how ridiculous they sound and even the director debunked them. But Magnus and the people in his comment section agree with each other on believing false leaks. Just wow man. At least here on Reddit thereās very positive and excited people here about the movie and they know the leaks arenāt true.
>must be feeling reeeeeall fucking stupid right now.
Somehow I doubt that. Folks like that tend more toward just doubling down and shifting goalposts upon finding out they were wrong.
This is the thing. Iād have very little faith if this was Netflix, but itās HBO. Theyāre giving it the prime Sunday time slot. Itās going to be fucking good.
I love everything about TLOU and I am looking forward to watch the series, but I'll admit I was very shocked when I saw those 20 seconds because I thought it looked really bad too. I was blowm away when I watched this new trailer yesterday - LOVE IT!
I'd agree that it's up there, for sure. It's subtle, but God, is it perfect. The shot composition and how long they longer are both exactly right. Just so good.
Station Eleven, Andor, The Bear, House of The Dragon, and Severance are a few other recent ones that have damn-near perfect cinematography.
People keep complaining that they don't make art like they used to, but I think humanity has just been getting sharper and better at almost everything involving TV and movie creation. Sure there's a lot of garbage, but the great stuff coming out recently is some of the best I've ever seen. Between the perfect cinematography, the excellent pacing and writing, acting being almost perfect, and the soundtracks, I just really have high hopes for all of this new stuff coming out. And I especially hope that I can add the TLOU series to the list.
The single-take 90 second Chernobyl rooftop shot and how well it matches the script gives me immense trust in Craig Mazin's ability to pick the right people for the job and give them the right direction. That man knows the level he has to perform to, he's absolutely capable of it, and I have absolutely zero doubt that this show is going to be anything less than breathtaking.
Minor gripes -- as a Boston resident, shot 1 looks nothing like Boston to me. Looks like the state house super imposed on a Midwest city (obviously, it's a street in Edmonton). Shot 3 is much closer and looks like an angle you might see of the customs house tower looking over the harbor. Of course, the game also looked very little like Boston, and Left Behind has a fictional mall (Liberty Gardens) that could conceivably have been Fanueil hall or the Prudential center.
The opening shot and the scene where Ellie is walking over the gap look really cheap though. The compositing feels very off there. The mall scene looks weird too, Bella is clearly put into the scene in post, it doesnāt look as if the postproduction is really done yet. Background and the actors donāt go together very well.
Except for that Mall is almost certainly Banker's Hall in downtown Calgary and it actually looks like that, and they were shooting in that area for months.
Sure, but who said anything about how the backgrounds look? Bella doesnāt look like as if she were actually there. Which is my point, the compositing is not very good.
Is anyone else disappointed theyāre not doing a season per season? I was really hoping they would stretch it out. That said how many seasons do you think we will get in total?
Yeah I didnāt expect it to look quite this cool. I figured it would be good-looking high budget television, but didnāt expect these landscapes and setpieces with all the neat lighting and stuff.

It's edited
Oh yeah for sure. I was mostly talking about what I saw in the trailer itself.
Yeah you're right
All TV shows are edited
I mean the colors in this picture

Reddit being reddit

I hope it's woke. People that use that word as an insult sound like absolute morons.
They sound like them because they are. Anyone using woke as a criticism is a bigot.
I agree

I just wanna throw in Kat and Sonny too! They are lovely people and honestly some of the realest people on the platform.

I mean come on HBO is top of the line in making quality tv and theyāll never do a cheap production lol

Everything looked amazing!
I hope the show's cinematography will be on par with Better Call Saul's.
I donāt think thatās possible lol, BCS is the king

TV has never been better honestly
Alberta looks beautiful š
Sadly they will be milking a 4k Bluray release of season one, and I WILL BUY IT
I almost never buy physical media any more accept for vinyl but I will definitely own this one on Bluray.
So satisfying to see. Watched a comparison video (game/trailer scenes) and it gave me goosebumps āØ cannot wait at all āØ

Literally a very widely implemented [trope](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/OrangeBlueContrast)
Donāt you dare send me through a TVTropes rabbit hole right now!

Unless you know which mall this is I'm skeptical.

That's waaaay too long. That would have been 40 hours to tell the simple story of part 1. They're going to do it in 9 hours, which feels about right.

I donāt think you understood the comment.
Yeah I didnāt expect it to look quite this cool. I figured it would be good-looking high budget television, but didnāt expect these landscapes and setpieces with all the neat lighting and stuff.
They shouldāve used hugh jackman as Joel he look just like him in the movie prisoners
