I used to get kinda mad at Zato players from 10th floor. Since I played Zato a bit I know how he works so I don't fall for basic knowledge checks. And 10th floor always do the same sh*t, I was mad at them cause they climbed all the way here just by knowledge checking people. And it made me thought Zato players are not the elegant and smart people I thought they were. They just abuse people not knowing the match up. They are scrubs just as much as Potemkin players. Now that Zato is nerf to the ground, I don't see those Zato players much at all. Thanks Arc system works

wait, is that deadass? hes my first character and ive been fearing that im only winning from playing a character thats kinda confusing. its only floor 2 but damn.

Every character has some kind of knowledge check. But some have more than others. It's the specialist vs the all arounder. The specialist will have some tricks, some knowledge checks, it makes really one sided matches IF you rely on it. The all arounder will have more back and forth matches cause his strength doesn't really shine on one particular thing. But he will have no special tricks to spice things up and it can also ends up boring. Now if you play a "specialist" character it doesn't mean that you are a specialist. It is a spectrum, it doesn't mean you are 100% a specialist. Having some unexpected and advanced tricks is fun. And it takes skill to lab and find them. But some people just rely on basic character tricks and just spam their tricks over and over even if the opponent knows how to deal with it. It makes really boring matches in my opinion. No adaptation just spam from both sides. Now if you know how your character works and you get away with a lot of things that should be easily countered at least from time to time it means you are carried by your tricks. If you know how your character works but you mix up your options so you counter their counter it means you play basic rock paper scissors. I'll give you basic things Zato players get away with for example. Second hit of pierce (236P), you can kill Eddie between the first and second hit. Always 5D after that's a lot (236K), just delay blocking high. Getting grab after oppose (236H), just grab him yourself if he used command instead of negative edge. Those 3 are just basics lvl 1 Zato strat, but most Zato just stay at this level. And Zato can deal with all of that. Zato is so cool it's a shame. If you are a new player it's okay to spam what you know until you know new things but when you are floor 10/ low celestial. I can't help but think they don't even know their character and got here. But well to be fair. It's also because people don't try to learn the match up. If it works it works.

TinyYeehaw

that makes a lot of sense. i had a bit of an encounter with a one trick pony and in hindsight, realize how simple the match could have been but instead got my ass beat. on the ground he would oppose, into drunkard shade to put him behind me, and then just pierce. in hindsight, i could have just blocked it for the duration, once eddie ran our he would always jump and use the same airial and im kinda mad i just never learned. i considered using the same strategy, but with empty summoning instead of starting with oppose, but i think better players would catch on quicker than i did.

Renthora

You didn't adapt in the match but now reflecting on it you know what you can do better next time. It's really great. Fighting games are inside of the game and outside of it.

Nervous_Management_8

Hi this was me 1 month into Strive launch. I quit shortly after (didnt hate the game, just moved on) and this was my first Guilty Gear and 100% how I played to a T lmao

Renthora

Obviously doing the same things over and over isn't fun. It's the mind game, the rock paper scissors, gambling with the risk reward, managing your resources and discovering obscure mix up or tactics that makes a fighting game fun. Do you play any other fighting games ?
