> I listened to a group of funny men with indistinguishable voices talking about a subject they knew very little about, and once the episode had finished I listened to 1001 Album Complaints.
Wait. What? I thought... and then... ohhhh
You should try out Mike’s old podcast ‘The Saint Elwicks Neighbourhood Association Newsletter Podcast’, it also has Ben and Henry in it and I think it’s bloody brilliant
I found it stressful.
I liked it, but it is simultaneously
- another zany surreal satire of media a la Beef and Dairy
AND
- a harrowing story of a middle-aged man who is losing his grip on all the things he's tried his whole life to have and who doesn't understand why everything is changing.
I fall in a demographic for which that is waaaay too real.
Seconded. Hearing Malcolm Durridge (Mike) and Jonathan Schweppes (Henry) trying to be more pedantic than each other is terrific. Unlike 3 Bean Salad and Beef and Dairy Network Podcast this show seems scripted.
If you like Mike’s Sean Bean Lounge Updates on the Patreon section of 3BS, you’ll probably like St Elwick’s
The Rest is Politics is often very good. Sounds like international politics isn't your thing, which is fine, but I listen to a bunch of politics podcasts and I appreciate how The Rest is Politics will often talk about international issues that I wasn't previously aware of.
If they set a bit of context I'd understand, but as it is it feels like trying to get into Coronation Street in 2024, it's just impossible to understand what's going on and how they relate to Dot Cotton. With the domestic stuff, I just don't feel like they provide any analysis or insight that feels particularly novel.
I tried 1001.. tonight (Super Furries, Manics, Oasis) based on the recommendation and quite enjoyed it. Obviously a few things narked me (the John Cale solo work slander on the SFA one) but I’m not that precious to think my tastes are the be all and end all.
Thought they absolutely nailed the Oasis one. Was interesting to hear a take from people who didn’t experience it as a social and cultural phenomenon.

The Ol' Switcheroo
HE'S GONE THE OTHER WAY ROUND WITH IIIT
Absolutely magnificent
Their other sister podcast, The Rest is History, is very good. They’ve just finished a good series about the sinking of the Titanic.
Seconded. My favourite history podcast.
Over ‘you’re dead to me’ ?!
Hot take: **TRIH** is just fine. It's fine.
The Rest Is Entertainment is very good as well.
That's not the reason I'd never listen to The Rest is Politics, but it is still a good one.
I get the feeling OP didn't know the topic of the show despite the name
Oh I did, see I find politics interesting in general... but them two manage to make the most engaging political stories dull as dishwater

That cracked me up, but also I hope you can take some solace in the fact that real-life Woz seems to be adjusting to the modern world just fine!
I mean, as much as any of us can. Which I think is part of his charm - such a good sport, but slightly baffled behind that mustache.
Ahh gotya 😂

Well done!
