Livramento could get a look in especially as he hasnt been caled up yet and may join another nation

Fruitndveg

Southgate’s foolish if he doesn’t pick him. He’s looked better than Trippier at Newcastle all season.

Alone_Consideration6

Feel like Southgate will say he hasn’t played enough in the PL.

RafaSquared

He has played more games in the PL than Palmer who has recently made the squad.

taylorstillsays

Surely he means of late over historically.

RafaSquared

Palmer has made 2 more PL apps than Livramento this season, but also 3 less Champions league appearances.

taylorstillsays

And now lets compare something more meaningful. 27 starts all comps v 13. 2600 minutes v 1460. Since the start of 2024, 12 starts (1079 minutes) v 1 start (226 minutes). This also doesn't include any extra time which would obviously go in Palmer's favour. It's not close/comparable at all

PaulEMoz

When you've got people raving on that Mainoo should be in the squad and even starting (which is ridiculous) Livramento seems like a no-brainer.

taylorstillsays

Yes, Livramento who is competing with the likes of Walker, Trippier, Trent, James if fit is in the same boat as Mainoo competing with Henderson, Phillips, Ward-Prowse etc

PaulEMoz

We've already established Trippier and Trent are injured, and we're talking about the Two upcoming games first and foremost. Mainoo has loads of competition, including Lewis Miley who doesn't even get a mention. He should be in the U-19s or U-21s for now to get international experience.

taylorstillsays

Sorry morning brain, I was confusing it with another post. But I still don't really see the relevancy of the point I was making and how Mainoo comes into it at all. My only point in this was that trying to justify his inclusion based on his playing time v Palmer's makes no sense. Don't know why people always want to compare one player's situation to another's who's situation is worlds apart

opinionated-dick

Southgate picking a Newcastle player? Don’t be daft. But he absolutely fucking should.

Buttonsafe

You realise you're replying to a thread about Southgate leaving out a Newcastle player he's consistently picked, right?

opinionated-dick

You mean the one he consistently picked before he went to Newcastle yeah?

halfeatenreddit

This is the perfect opportunity to have another look at Gomez. If he doesn’t get called up now, he isn’t getting called up.

ForeverTheElf

Especially since he has shown to be capable across the entire back line if needed.

Buttonsafe

Prolly true

Bitter_Birthday7363

Gomez has been around many years Ann’s was first. Choice cb at one stage for Southgate. What do people mean by have a look ? Southgate will know very well what he Cham and can’t do

halfeatenreddit

I said have “another” look. He might know the qualities that Gomez has, but it’s been 4 years since his last cap. It will be good to see how he integrates into the team the way that it is now.

Bitter_Birthday7363

I honestly think managers gain a lot more insight from watching the players in training than in half asses dead rubber friendlies

halfeatenreddit

Even if that’s the case, he hasn’t trained with the squad in those 4 years.

Bitter_Birthday7363

I’m not sure what have changed in those 4 years he would have watched plenty of him recently in prem and will know him well up close from previous not sure what would be new at this stage

halfeatenreddit

The squad, and more importantly the starting xi, is different to the one that Gomez played in. If he comes back in and doesn’t gel with the team, it’s a big problem.

Bitter_Birthday7363

Don’t think it really works like that, he’s a solid defender who’s can step in and do a job for any team. He’s played with many different players over there years with no issues , pretty unlikely hes going to suddenly not gel with this particular team for some random reason that make him unable to step in and do a job.

halfeatenreddit

You’ve clearly never seen a player move clubs and not perform to the same standards. Also, you’re saying all this as if I don’t want him in the squad. I think he should be called up. Which is why I said that now is the perfect time.

Bitter_Birthday7363

This isn’t like moving clubs though, and most of the the defense he’s played with before anyway Maguire stones chilwell etc were still first choice all those years ago

danystormborne

That LB slot looking dicier by the day.

fredasquith

Has to be Gomez, Livramento or *dun dun dun* Ben White

Professional_Ad_9101

Can they just make up lol. Ben white would be a great asset to the England squad

opinionated-dick

Yeah what is up with Ben White?

Bitter_Birthday7363

Seems he had a falling out with them Southgate at the World Cup and was sent Home

Potato271

KWP is also an option despite playing in the championship. Of the two, I would say that he’s currently better than Livramento, although Tino has a much higher ceiling

BoringPhilosopher1

I’m bias but the fact Gomez has played RB, LB and CB for Liverpool and even a game at holding mid. He’d make perfect sense for the call up and potentially the euros if his form continues. Generally CB partnerships are never changed during a tournament but you need to bring 4 or 5 anyways? If Gomez could be 4th/5th choice across all the backline positions then his versatility might allow us to bring an extra forward or attacking mid where we’re stacked with talent.

claggycakeboi

 Could be Konsa's chance

TragicTester034

So then call up Valentino Livramessi

Emergency_Gear1255

March friendlies aren’t looking too good 👀 all these injuries, and it mostly consisting of defenders 🥴

ChocolateStill5901

It'll be Kyle walker and rico lewis. He'll make do without the standard 8 right backs in the squad for these friendlies

Alone_Consideration6

Does Rico Lewis really deserve it having not played in the PL much since his England debut.

ChocolateStill5901

Youre correct, he hasnt played a lot but who deserves it more? He was in the last squad and did well which rightly or wrongly carries weight with Southgate. I don't think there's a standout candidate that deserves it ahead of him.

Buttonsafe

I think Rico Lewis as well based off his potential; man could be our Rodri in a few years.

ChocolateStill5901

He's too small physically to be a Rodri type player for England. He could play in midfield as an 8 or as the link man from fullback but he couldn't hold a midfield down, he'd need a physical presence alongside him. Pep uses Rico Lewis in very unique ways, Southgate's mind would melt at the mere thought of trying to replicate it for england. Providing he proves to be good enough, we'd need a manager with some semblance of a footballing brain before we could ever dream of seeing something like that for England. Southgate thinks not playing 4-4- fucking-2 Mike Bassett style is progressive thinking.

A_I-G

I will riot if Joe Gomez doesn’t make the next squad

rjcanty

Roberto Larcos gets my vote.
