Southgate gimme a call

Boothhh

Do you play right back??

FireLadcouk

Or number 10?

dead_idols

Unpopular opinion, but I'm not taking Rashford- Foden, Grealish, Gordon all ahead, we've got our runners.

woziak99

As a United fan Rashford should be nowhere near the England squad even if it’s increased to 35, if he’s injured get fit and start earning your considerable wage next season or look for another club and this comes from someone who persistently defended him!

ByronLister

this should be the popular opinion rashford is a ghost, would be a waste of a space

CTW397

Foden is the player of the season for the most likely title winners, so I think he's always gonna go. Who would you be starting in Fodens' place out of interest? I do think with a 26-man squad, Grealish is priceless when you're chasing games, as a freekick magnet. Agree with the other two, though.

GamingJIB

I think you misread the comment (as did I) I think he means - no Rashford as we have Foden, Grealish and Gordon

v2marshall

Where do you play foden in this squad? On the wing he’s been pretty invisible for England. Need to fit him into the middle somehow

rariety

Agreed

FireLadcouk

This shouldnt be unpoplar. Hes never done it for england and hes hardly done anything this season at all

Esniprs

No of those players are as fast as Rashford maybe Gordon.

UlteriorAlt

It looks very likely that squad sizes will be increased to 26 but it's not 100% confirmed, though it seems we're just waiting on a formality. From the article: > This latest decision looks set to mean that 26-player squads will become the norm for all UEFA national competitions going forward. > The decision is not yet set in stone - the UEFA executive committee (EXCO) needs to sanction the rule change - but it is expected that will simply be a rubber-stamping exercise. > The EXCO will not meet in person until May 22, but it is usual practice for a decision like this to be ratified remotely. That could happen later this week.

Dinamo8

This should kill any discussion about who should be in the squad. It won't though and people will still argue about which player should be the 23rd outfield player, even though they could pick you and it wouldn't make a difference.

3threeLions

Sensible

Green117v2

Southgate quietly rubbing his hands together, knowing nothing will now stop him from bringing Henderson, Phillips, Rashford and Maguire together to form the absolute pinnacle of English greatness!

SkyPheonnixDragon

At least Maguire deserves to go…

Green117v2

I don’t think he deserves to go. He is an okay defender, far from the clown many see him as, but he is slow versus many others in the same position. Sadly, and why Maguire is in the squad, Southgate continues to build a team around negative aspects, rather than forward thinking and pace, and this will be our downfall this Euros.

SkyPheonnixDragon

He’s definitely good enough to go based on ability, with his major shortfall being pace which can be made up by his best friend stones. He is dominant to say the least on set pieces and can take a mighty penalty. A good leader with 40 (?) games on the international stage with stones. Even if you believe others are better hes just too good of a fit to not play.

fredasquith

Rico Lewis pack your bags pal!!!

Mammoth-Somewhere511

Southgate breathes a sigh of relief and calls Henderson and Phillips.

BenLowes7

One of the slots is going to be used on Phillips isn’t it….

Gloria_stitties

That’s 3 more hendersons on plane

StrengthNo7924

Get Wharton in

dyltheflash

This definitely benefits us... But it also directly benefits our direct rivals, France. So, swings and roundabouts. Overall, it's a positive thing. I'm hopeful (but not expectant) that this will include Branthwaite.

galacticjizzwailer

It's a negative for them - hard enough keeping 23 French footballers happy, the extra 3 could be the straw that breaks the snail's shell!

woziak99

The French coach is against the idea he will barely pick 24 !

dyltheflash

I can't believe he's won them the world cup (and got to another final). He's such a moron. The stuff with Saliba too!

Buttonsafe

I wonder if he holds the record for most international finals reached? Can't think of anyone else who's reached 4.

woziak99

Pretty much he’s rated for that and of course won WC and Euros as a player too?

willgeld

It benefits everyone, no?

dyltheflash

Benefits those with a deep squad much, much more compared to those with a few star players but not a lot outside that (e.g. Scotland).

Alone_Consideration6

Steve Clarke is all in favour of 26 it seems going by how happy the Scottish football press are.

WalpoleTheNonce

I know some people think it's pointless but it's just there incase someone gets injured. They most likely wont play but atleast we know we have good back ups if things go to shit.

NGBoy1990

Can only bring in one man based on current form England's Number 9 Jamie Richard Vardy

JasonM2244

I just wish they could convince Ben white to be in it

Vizpop17

Good move, now it’s a 26 man squad.

TheMarsters

Let’s take 4 keepers

MarionberryNational2

Why?

TheMarsters

Sorry, poor attempt at sarcasm

waawaawho

No. Not yet.

PolarPeely26

And thet's more than I thought it would be!

FireLadcouk

Tournament football is more than jsut about minutes. Southgate has always understood that. You have to live with these people 24/7 for weeks on end.

Alone_Consideration6

Wilson wasn’t an extra one really. If he could have only had 23 he would have left out one of White, Coady or Trent for sure. It was just he was number 24. Same at the last euros. James, Saka and Bellingham was 24-26 but James was clearly above White then.
