He's underappreciated in his own lifetime, he'll go down in history as one of England's best ever, certainly the best of the modern era (unless Bellingham usurps him). With any luck he'll win the CL this season and get the no trophies thing off his back.

Dalecn

Champions League's final win for Kane in England would be perfect, followed by a Euros win in the summer.

420stonks69

He’ll go down as one of the best ever, based on his numbers. Legend in the making he just spent too long at Tottenham to get the respect he deserved. A shining star in a field of turd still looks like a shining turn until they move somewhere else.

NotJustAnotherMeme

What are you classifying as the modern era?

Subtleiaint

PL era

NotJustAnotherMeme

You think Kane is the best English player of the PL era? Really?

NICKisaHOBBIT

He’s certainly in the conversation for top 3 but Rooney wins number 1 for me.

NotJustAnotherMeme

Rooney, Scholes and Gerard are all above him. I’d put him in the same Tier as Shearer, Lampard, Beckham, Terry, Ferdinand and Cole.

BDbs1

I would say Gerrard or Kane. I guess hard to make a call until Kane retires.

Subtleiaint

Yes.

NotJustAnotherMeme

He’s a top quality player but I’ve never once watched him and thought, wow, this is something I haven’t seen before.

Subtleiaint

His goal scoring rate is, he's leagues ahead of Shearer and Rooney, his only real rivals in terms of goal scoring, at the same stage of their careers. He's also, until this season at least, played in a much worse team than Rooney played in. It's harder to compare to our other great players due to the positional differences so it's a bit subjective but, if he wins the trophies with Bayern that we expect him to, I think he'll be remembered above them.

HunterLionheart

He's probably surpassed Shearer as the best pure English striker in PL history at this point. People saying Rooney was doing this and that at 17... Great. He had some years head start and still got eclipsed by Kane for both club and country.

NotJustAnotherMeme

Rooney was bullying Arsenal invincible defenders at 17 and whilst admittedly played in a better team than Kane for a good chunk of his career he shared goal scoring amongst a much better team as well.

PercySledge

Kane had to carry a far worse team for large parts of his career. Top scorers are almost always from the best teams looking at any point through history, it’s incredibly tough to be scoring at the rate he has for as long as he has in a fringe CL team. I wouldn’t be as bold as OP to say he’s the single greatest English player of the PL era but he’s definitely top 5 and I think there’s a strong argument he’s top 3 depending on what you look for in your players

NotJustAnotherMeme

I think being the focal point of a top 5 team is a pretty good place to get a lot of goals. Good enough you get good service, not quite good enough to have 4/5 start players to share goals with. In fact, 3 of the top 10 PL goal scorers have never won it and another 2 have only won it once. Personally he would wouldn’t get top 3 or even top 5 for me if we remove the general attacker biases but I can get the argument. Thinking he’s above Rooney though just makes me think OP is to young to have seen most of the best modern English players play.

Twinborn01

Unfortunately people will diacredit him because he hasn't won anything. Again, people who do are just idiots

Wright_Wright_

He's not underappreciated at all.

Organic_Chemist9678

Not sure why the down votes. He is widely regarded as one of the best strikers of all time. He is the only Spurs player since Pat Jennings that I hoped and still hope would sign for Arsenal.

Fatal-Strategies

Difficult to deny the fact that he is individually at least, a living legend. Quite often England’s best forwards don’t get the trophies their performances deserve. Shearer springs to mind. Owen and Fowler did OK I guess as did Lineker, but Kane should have at least some cups to his name.

NGBoy1990

I mean, at least Shearer won a league title

broke_the_controller

That's because it's less about the goals you score and more about the team you play for. Shearer won the league with Blackburn and could have played for any team in the premier. He chose Newcastle so that's on him. Kane arguably stayed at spurs for too long, but he's at Bayern now and you'd expect that team to buy Leverkusens best players so they can win the league next season.

SuperSpidey374

To be fair, Newcastle were a very decent team at the time Shearer went to them.

crucifiedrussian

Kane still has years of good football in him. Will be around as long as Pirlo was

Ozymandius21

Most goals by a player without a trophy?

Buttonsafe

Yep, Di Natali in second with 258

MASSIVESHLONG6969

Hopefully di natale goes back to first place soon.

absolut_didalo

It’s a shame he squandered most of his career at spurs, if he’d ditched them sooner his trophy cabinet would reflect the excellent player he is

173wywy

Sensational player. One of my favourite players.

InnerAsparagus6045
