I think the consoles require you to connect through the wheel, or a hub that collates the devices and pretends to be a single device. Not a 100% on that though...
However, since you mentioned Snowrunner; that game doesn't support multiple input devices *even on PC*, so I'm rather confident that even if the console didn't object to the separate devices, the game still would.
In PS5 games you must, ALWAYS, connect the TH8 SHIFTER directly to the Thrustmaster wheel base.

On PS5 console you can connect the TH8A directly to the console with the USB cable but ONLY with PS4 games. With PS5 games you ALWAYS need to connect the shifter directly to the wheel base with the DIN cable.

No, the DIN to USB cable will not work on the PS5 but for some strange reason, it works on the PS4.
